No, _I_ listen to all kinds of music. I like "rock/punk/metal or something" as you put it, but that's just small parts of my interests. I have lots of jazz, classical, reggae, ska, funk, blues, soul, country, lyrical and whatnot in my collection. Guess I'm a moody person.

I can listen to all pop artists up to the 80s and many current radio-friendly performers that somehow don't make it to the discos or (de)frag movies.

So I don't think I'm that sensitive when it comes to music choice. That being said...

Soundtrack of this movie doesn't qualify as music.

You can't even recognize that, but half of it is out of tune (sounds not being musical notes, don't know how to say in English). Painful to people with absolute pitch.

You seem to be so knowledgeable about music - adding all those genres to your experience list, and then you disregard electronic/dubsetp as a genre. Makes you look like someone who is full of shit.

I guess you never heard of untraditional musical forms that don't involve musical notes.

With the risk of sounding pretentious, I notice that the music you mention is a lot more melodically composed, and if you ask me a lot more complex/advanced.

I really usually don't stop watching a fragmovie because I dislike the music, but I'm very close to agreeing that what is in this isn't music at all.

Using wub wub sounds to distort whenever any kind of melody or rythm is about to actually develop, gives me the impression that the artist have done it only for the sake of; "This is dubstep, Gotta use as much dubstep sound as possible to make it cool".

Once upon a time someone invented scratching. That shit kills any tune as well when used in exaggeration.

This was good. I found the lack of first person disturbing though. Also a lack of flow at some points imho from all the slowmo used to sync the stunts (which was good but to the detriment of the movie's pace).

Very nice movie but i missed some 1st person tricks, and the music choice isnt good at all.

Gave it a 5. Kinda want to rate it even lower, but in all fairness I don't really know about the content of the movie. The shitty wub wub sounds made me skip 3 times forward hoping it would stop before quitting it altogether. -_-

Look, I'm sure defraggers here are wanking to the tricks and I'm being ignorant.

But I've never played defrag, so I don't know any of the maps aside from Hektik and Hero's Keep. And even on Hero's Keep I had big problem understanding what the heck happened.

What's the fetish with switching cameras every half a second? What's the fetish of fov jumping all over the scale from 150 to 15 in random ways?


So:

High FOV parts make me dizzy, constant FOV switches and distortions / rotations even more so.

Because of fov change abuse and constant zooming/unzooming, I lost all track of map size and jump height. As I mentioned, I don't know a single map and have no idea how far/high they got.

High frequency camera switches make me lose track of what's happening. There's just no continuity when you see a closeup of a guy flying towards you, then suddenly closeup of a guy sitting on a platform somewhere else. This was underlined by fast-forwarding the in-air parts.

Who had the brilliant idea that it's advisable to just skip the flying parts? I'm not a defragged, but a Quaker. I can judge jumps when watching in normal timescale, I can see if they travel far / high just by how much time it takes them to land. But in this movie, with all the fast-forwarding, that is lost.

I really have no idea what happens in this movie. I'm nauseous and that's it.

It's defrag, you don't need to know the map to enjoy it.

Absolutely, and that's true for all the other movies. But in this one, map scale and jump directions are lost, so I would need at least map knowledge to appreciate the tricks.

Basically all the time it's like this:
- shot of a guy flying among 3 rockets
- closeup of some straw nade somewhere
- the guy hits a wall and there's an explosion (so far so good)
- but immediately the camera switches to his behind (so I don't know which direction he's bounced away)
- then 1/10 second fast forward to him standing on some platform (so I don't know how high/far he's got)

I've seen lots of defrag movies, I've played with effects (more than changing smoke color) and I can appreciate all the fx and camera work, it's all good...

But this is not an abstract art form. It's a trick movie. You're supposed to show tricks and make me amazed with the tricks, not digital imagery.

But who am I talking to... this is ESR, of course you only care for CGI because content stopped mattering years ago when you all stopped playing Quake...

FINALLY a quake movie maker who understands how to mix audio! Zeds Dead is perfectly suited to this trick movie. Editing was top notch, tricks were new and fun! 10/10 only because I can't rate higher.

really well done. I am not a fan of this sort of music but this movie really makes it fit with all the syncs. 9/10.

Very nice, although I personally enjoy watching tricks from first person perspective. But this was awe inspiring nevertheless.

loved the tricks and the movie - hated a majority of the music bar perhaps the slightly breaks sounding 2nd track, and would have liked to see a few of those tricks in 1st person.

Still a decent 9 for content and editing / syncing alone though.

i normally don't like 3rd person only movies, but the combination of low fov and camera angles made this really awesome. custom fx were good too - renk strikes again.

although i've listened to those zeds dead tracks a million times already, music was well suited to the pace of the movie.

some tricks blew my mind and as someone else said, if they aren't scripted then just wtf... goddamn.

the movie is edited really well. the syncing is amazing, especially how in some scenes the plasma blends in so perfectly with the 'music'.

the problem for me with this movie. even though its production seemed really good the music prevented me from enjoying it, but that is a matter of personal taste.
