I'm a QL newfag and I only remember:
- QL going out of beta (hundreds were going back to Q3 where Aerowalk is free... yet they're still here).
- G-Data Cup dropping QL.
- IEM dropping QL.
- ESWC dropping QL (after just one event, but that was the end of QL, too!)
- DH dropping TDM.

Each time same story and same threads. I'm immune to that shit by now.

I would like to play old quake games like qw, q2, q4 and CPMA (EDAWN?) of course, but it is a question about people goind back to these games.

You can still play qw and q2 in leagues and tournaments when it's not summer :)

The "QL will die" will be repeated until 2020 and we are still playing this or the next quake. People are frustrated I get that, but there are no alternatives yet to the Quake series. If you play Quake for money then you are most likely out of luck though. This can be said with all 'games' part from SC2 and some other console crap as far as I know! :)

Well, with QL there's at least a fair chance that the platform will be shut down at some point. And seeing how the registered duels per day have dropped by 3/4, you wonder how much longer the whole thing will stay online when they seemed to have killed off a big chunk of the non-paying community (id still makes some ad-revenue from them even though they don't "pay").

I agree that people should get off their high horse and accept that just because QL isn't in the limelight anymore in regards to tournaments, doesn't mean it's dead. You can still have fun playing as long as there's other people to play with.

QL died as proffesional competitive discipline, not dead as a game (yet) but getting close to that if the same ID policy continues.
There're many games being in the same condition:
Enemy Territory which has nearly the same competitive player base for several years with 1-2 lans per year.
CS 1.6 dying aswell being thrown out of WCG/ESWC/IEM this year (it prolly gonna come back in form of CS:GO)
QL will still be played forever(until ID shut down the servers), just not gonna be a pro competitive discipline anymore which quake has been for 15? years which is kinda sad

Well, i would come back/reinstall QW, and Q3cpma/osp, but mainly i think i'll return to Cod4 and maybe try CS, the last or whatever is the best version.

I'll continue playing casually some duels, FFA or even pub tdm. The problem is, the servers are now almost empty, with most maps on unoccupied servers (not prem) being some uncompetitve shit. Quake simply can not be replaced.

personally, I'm planning on playing Guild Wars 2. I have no idea how long that will last but I'm assuming the better part of 6 months to a year at least.

I'll still frag for shits and gigs when I feel like playing a FPS game. I have almost zero interest in Shootmania. If it was actually any good there would be much more people talking about it. Quake is a game of true FPS skill and it will be hard to go to any other watered down type game. The reason Painkiller was playable because it was basically a different version of Quake.

I might check out Planetside 2 as well, we'll see. MMO games are fun if you're casual.

As for pro shooters like Quake.... Im playing some promode vampiric clan arena atm which is amusing but ill never get premium. The only hope i see for the quake community is 2GD's project, but that wont be finished for ages i believe :)

My friends are playing Day-Z and it looks quite fun. I would gladly give it a chance but Arma 3 is comming with integrated support for this mod so I will probably wait until it's released.

im not even sure which direction the devs of day-z are heading but, i thought it was gonna become standalone in the future. for now if u wanna play it, find the arma2 combined operations pack for cheaps and u can play :)

some downsides to day-z though, high learning curve, lots of patience required, and sometimes i feel like its a walking simulator :P

BUT if theres a game that has quality excitement that makes ur heart race, day-z will be that game!

Very true. The problem is, my schedule these days can't really accommodate sitting around for a while waiting for enough players to get on for a good match, which can include idling in IRC and waiting for people to show up. There are great games out there, but even if QL is "dead," it still has players on, from my experience, 24/7. The same definitely cannot be said about other games in the genre, from my experience in NA.

Which is a shame, because some of these other games are amazing.

Xonotic, QuakeWorld and Reborn it is for me. Not that I am 'leaving QL' - I was never a part of QL and I'm glad I wasn't. As ignorant as it may sound - QL wasn't fun for me. I couldn't load up a map and just move around it all on my own and enjoy it as I can in Xonotic and QuakeWorld. However I slowly feel like that I might as well just drop gaming all together and put a greater focus on my 3D and 2D art - Which I guess I can do with Xonotic really, since it does what I want and I can contribute to something with it.

I love Xonotic's "openness" compared to other games, it's really awesome. They strongly encourage community input in the game's development, including everything from maps to very specific aspects of the gameplay.

It really is a community driven project, and frankly you can't go wrong with that in my eyes. It was only a few hours ago when Samual (Lead developer on Xonotic) was on #xonotic asking for suggestions to rename the ammo types to. It's quite a unique experience for a community of a game being able to talk finger-to-finger with the lead developer and get his/her thoughts out there and having them being regarded as vital components for the games future, whereas with other games - those thoughts would either not be taken into account or would be loosely acknowledged as some kind of low form of a third party opinion that is inexperienced and unimportant lifeless remarks.

nah I meant you can plasma at 120ms and maps are so small ( fight = clusterfuck 75% of the time ) that you can hit 50-70% plasma all the time in closerange fights not to mention the unlagging on the plasma.

I'm going back to what gave me the most fun and that was cpm.
It's so sad to see such a wonderful game being continuesly neglected for so many years. I'm going to do whatever it takes to help increase participation.
Tournaments, servers, websites, etc.You name it.
If I could somehow get it back to the 03/04 levels of popularity, it would be worth the effort to me.
