Ok in a duel, the spectators shouldn't be able to vote for what duel map is to be next because they can vote for shit maps like beyond reality. (In fact there should be a feature where u can click on someones name in the queue and it will load you two into an empty server.)

The map voting at the end of a ca game should have a check to see if the arena is the appropriate size for the players. Cos if it's 8v8 you don't want to play electric head :o)


Also, I don't know if this happens to any other country but in Australia a lot of servers don't appear in the match browser unless you change the settings around to all populated and the specific server location. I also suspect that servers that you can't join because of skill difference don't show either. I think it would be good to show all servers so it shows people that quake is actually popular than what people think it is.

I agree with this but I think the next played in que should be able to vote. since he's the one playing next, after all.

you can do this, you just have to set it to 'All Populated" and 'Any Difficulty'. I'm not sure if this is the default setting though for when you first play

I just thought of an idea and I don't know where to really post it, so I'll do it here :P

But how about id software implement a ladder system in quake live where every player pays an entry fee and the person at the top of the ladder at the end of the month wins a certain percentage of the total money while the rest goes back to id software. Or maybe top 5 get money and the rest goes back to id. Thoughts???

I think that's a cool idea, only problem would be how do you pay people... not everyone has paypal accounts(its probably easier to give money opposed to take money through paypal so the working with paypal shouldn't be the issue I don't think). But could offer a trade with prem/pro stuff because your essentially paying for it. Or if they had micro transaction stuff they could offer that as payment if you already have prem/pro. Also you could just accept the fact that if you don't have paypal your money is auto donated or given to someone else?? I think just the efame from these type of ladders would be enough to have some participation even if its the same handful of people.

Only 2 issue I have is:
1. If these ladders are to frequent that could saturate user activity.

2. Cheating, when money is involved that would suck. But I would be content if they either filter through applicants so no registered that day or obscure names that only ictf could play that day lol. Also could create an anti cheat like punkbuster that takes screen shots to mitigate the visual aspects of cheating like wallhack, some timer hacks(visual/sound??) and what not. Considering a smart aimbot is probably too subtle to detect without detecting the executable and or method of use or lots of demo inspection. Also in regards to the sound I think its in the realm of possibility, if a particular sound plays at mega/armour/powerup often (besides the actual pickup noise lol) that would be fishy. :) Actually even ghosting as well could be prevented to some degree, just have no popular voice chat sessions allowed during the game :)

But yeah, id software would have to implement a fully working anti-cheat and a ladder system that works all by itself as in, you sign up for a tournament which is set at a spefic time, it's up to the players to show up on those times other wise after say 10 minutes its a forfeit. It then automatically creates the server for the players that has equal ping and automatically post results and updates brackets.

Quakelive does a have a page for the Q'con stream so maybe someone can stream every id software ladder finals (maybe weekly since zotac is no more :( ) and there can be another link you can click to see all the finals.

With the payment of money, I guess paypal would have to be the way or maybe bank transfer. There should be a random prize every time given to a free account to become a premium account, so it gives incentive for everyone to participate.


Speaking of different sections to the QL website. Maybe there should be a tutorial section with a video run down of each map and tutorials on strafe jumping and aiming etc.

EDIT: Just read the last sentence to your comment. To prevent ghosting, QL can spawn servers that only the players inthe match can join. And maybe they should upload all the demos automatically as well so anyone can learn from anyone's game in the tournament.

Yeah the shame with that last comment would be that those matches could be interesting for spectators. I suppose QL could have an official list of approved casters/streamers that are able to join these servers. If your going to have people spectating and chatting might as well have the game streamed opposed to people being in the actual server. Stream's are more likely to bring in new users :o

Only problem with that is... can these streamer/casters be trusted it'll be like politics lol :p. Either way i'm on board with your idea.

I guess the answer to that is gtv so the match is delayed for the viewers haha. Anyway alot of these ideas have been said said in the past but I think it can be a way for everyone to win.

Well can't streams be delayed?, they are already by abit lol? but yeah I guess gtv fixes the integrity part.

well gtv can be delayed so you can have people join and spectate without downloading and not ghosting. Maybe they could make the gtv in a way where adverts play between duels etc. But yeah, i don't think they would make gtv available for QL :P

That's not a bad idea. I think ultimately there is 2 problems that need be solved.

Problem 1: All empty servers are on crappy maps
Possible solutions
- Maybe first 1 or 2 players in get prompted with a vote???
- Have empty servers cycle through maps frequently
- Make sure there is no duplicate maps on a particular location

Problem 2: Bad list of maps to vote on

- One of the top 2 or 3 maps being played most often is guaranteed to be on the vote.

I almost understand having crappy/other maps in the pool for some variety for it would be almost* silly to see the same 2-3 maps on the vote every time. But at the same time there's the possibility of all 3 votes being crappy. In all honesty everyone wants to play t7 and dm6 atm. I don't see that as a bad thing as long as you have 1-2 or more proper/popular duel maps being cycled every 2 months and having people able to play these maps :)

I'm unsure as to why they couldn't have left voting the way it was, but still done the map pool rotation thing. I'm fine with the map rotation, but this new voting system really bugs me.
