Cooller and av3k would just be wasting their money they have little to no chance of beating rapha or cypher. Now let all the flame posts start now even though rapha has won practically every QL tournament. on rapha for some reason everyone outside of america does not think he's the best. Cypher is a close 2nd.

it kind of makes it very dull and boring that only those 2 dominate the top, if it was 5 possible people than I would watch coverege but not this way its like formula 1 y know when shumakker won all races for 7 years straight and after year 2 i quit watchin it after a few years cuz it was like what the hell is this you playin by yourself or what, its kinda like this top tier ql stuff

Not that I'm going myself, but I'm hugely surprised there is no information yet? Quite impossible for most to arrange something (sponsors, tickets, hotels, training, holidays etc?) when you don't know anything. :)

Yes, I'm also very aware of this.
This goes to the category: 'They seem to never learn from their previous mistakes' :)

It is a major commitment for any person if you have to pay this from your own pocket if you live outside Dallas (or the U.S.A). If you are one of the 99.9% paying visitors then you need to book, schedule and arrange everything from school and work etc.

If you are one of the lucky 0.1% who has sponsors? Then you will not be able to promote or get stuff done in time as you don't even know if your sponsors have interest in sending you there as you don't know what games or modes will be played.

Just weird that this still happens in 2012 as we don't have that many tournaments or events for our Quake series and this would be one of the highlights if done properly. Even if they announce something spectacular in terms of tournaments and prize, I predict that it will be to late for a lot of players to arrange something at this point.

It might be like u said, “deliberate fail”. It’s either a mistake repeated time after time (which would be weird idd, except if Bart Simpson was in charge), or a success that is repeated.

That is the most accurate description of it I reckon, for both Quakecon and their own games. Makes you wonder what they do care about :)

I personally remember for the 2005 tournament. I knew about the tournaments (games) already in March or April, but I declined due to not having the money to go. During the upcoming months my sponsors (the community) had the time to collect money and send me there. This was possible due to the announcement being made in time.

Enough whine from me, just feels a bit stupid regarding Quakecon and the last years announcements and no care mode.

Because quakecon is not a tournament, it's a tf2/minecraft line and a pr event.
The tournament itselft is community driven but they can't say shit without id's approval. which comes late because the tournament brings them absolutely nothing except 0.002% good karma from a bunch of nerds born between the late 70s and the late 80s aka not any videogame company's target.

In a way you are correct of course. It does not require that much effort from their side to be honest. To give the go or not I mean. The budget should be done quite early for these kind of events and just a matter of thinking a bit in advance.

If you ask me, 'the nerds from the 70s to the 80s' is also the ultimate proof that they did something very nice at some point. They should be more proud of it and show their hardcore fans that they appreciate them. :)

Their hardcore fans make up for only a few % of the people who bought doom3 back then, who bought rage and who will buy d3 bfg. It's only worth doing a tournament because quakecon has always had tournament and they'd get called out by useless but popular sites like kotaku or ign ( though in the end nobody woudl care imo )

whoever is in charge of these things really deserves to get fired. How hard could it be?
