I got a standard cherry here which I borrowed from the office some years ago but it lacks n-key rollover. Maybe the newer models are better on this though.

Afaik the g80-3000 has rollover only for some keys. But if it works with wsad/esdf then its a good alternative, though not really cheaper :P
The next question then is, which type of switches. Personally I prefer the soft browns but I've heard that many others prefer the blue ones for gaming.

I use the black ones and they started to piss me off after a while. so I put some "rings" under the actual keys so they travel shorter. id bought softer ones if i had the opportunity again.

i remember failing rocket jumps and strafing a lot in the beginning because I was not used to the "pressure" (jumping with space).

afaik most cheaper mechanical keys not even 6kro, actually i saw one with 2 key rollover. so def. check that before you order.

this doesnt even have 6kro. i bought a steelseries 6gv2 eventhough i owned this keyboard, go figure :/

I can agree with you there, feels cheap and nasty and cant see the keys even in daytime, you can spend an extra 40 and get 1 with a backlight, but thats dumb

if you like full length rubber domes the sidewinder x4(?) feels nice for being those. otherwise get some scissor switch board. if you're going "cheap ass" mech is out of the question

to name a few gaming keyboards that are very good (if you have the money of course).

The steelseries ones are fine, though they don't suit my preferences, but I don't like the rest (qpad is the only one I haven't tried) particularly the blackwidow.

If you are paying such a high amount of money for something that costs 10x more than a regular kb then it has to be "perfect", and none of those are by any means. "Good" is not enough and for the price you are better off with keyboards that are actually made by keyboard companies. Again, it's not all about the switches.

Won't even argue on this one with you... Use what you like I never had any bad experiences with Razer and will stick to them.

Anyone know if the cherry g84-4100 has atleast 6 key rollover for wasd? Ive seen one for Ł20 on ebay. I'm either buying this or Logitech UltraX with arabic keys for Ł13 shipped.

No, that model has 2KRO.

You could in theory make it NKRO, but it would require a lot of time, reprogramming the whole keyboard, changing diodes, making sure no key combination results in ghosting etc etc, it's not worth it.

Oh and btw, could you mention the rollover on that microsoft kb?

i still have an old IBM ps2 keyboard and it works prefect, i dont understand why do you need fancy keyboards with awesome lightning on it, you can remove the buttons and clean it true but other than that, dont see the difference.

i use laptop's keyboard right now and it is nice and perfect for games.

the big difference u acutally can see is only betwen normal and mechanical keyboard, so if u can't afford a mechanical one, get the most cheap logitech one you can find

and also, the difference betwen that cool razer, full of super lights stuff and normal is that, the first one is broken after one month of using. ;)

I posted as anonymous earlier, I just bought a Logitech UltraX for 13 pounds. This shit is a dream to type on compared to my k300.

I've used about 20 mechanical keyboards in the past.

If you don't want an ugly cherry board, then Google esports gaming equipment, shop owned by a guy called qtan.

Buy a Keycool from there, cheapest quality mechanical keyboard in the world, much better quality than Razer, Qpad, CM quickfire pro (not the tkl rapid though) and a lot of other gaming branded boards.

Your choice of switch, I recommend MX browns for a beginner.
