there are rumors, that "id" implemented some sort of anticheat and that a week or so before the latest update. But they started banning the caught accounts only lately.

here is some example from someone i reported already a month ago, with about 4 demos i send of him during this month but without success(he had pro-account).
So i was curious if the update made his cheats unusable and checked his matches, but he wasn't playing after the update for 2 days when he was finally banned the 3rd day, still without having played anymore matches.

I find the recent increase of number of bans really unsettling, especially after the Bukster issue. I'd like to hear something from ID. Did they code an anticheat ? If they did, then alright, but I really don't want to hear that they ban dozens of accounts on even hastier reports and reviews now.

Also, if the new bans are due to software detection and some people claim they didn't cheat, maybe they are right. But saying "I've never cheated" doesn't mean "I've never had any cheat installed", so maybe some bans are still right in some cases where people actually "didn't cheat".

This issue is really becoming a huge mess, I hope it gets sorted out with more transparency. QuakeLive is pretty much like the period of Terror during the French Revolution right now.

In the case of PB enabled games (not that i endorse PB as a whole cause the lag sucks) a event corresponding with the chit and screenshot is taken. The QL community isnt so big, also while sadly the trend has gone downhill with QL, there are not so many chiters, so the overhead of a proper ban communication shouldnt be much of an issue.

there aren't many cheaters in our region, and the ones I've spotted are pretty bad players that keep making new accounts. That isn't the case in NA or EU.

Pretty much if you got your Pro/Prem account banned for "using of 3rd party software" then either you or your brother were hacking or both hacking and since you have the same ip then they linked both your accounts together. Simple fucking solution? DON'T FUCKING HACK. Don't even download one and "try it". The bad news is w/e anticheat system ID has in place and you guys got caught by you lost those acocunts for good and w/e money you have into it. The good news is that their bans really mean fuck all you can just make a new account and keep playing.

Honestly I think if you are serious then your brother has a case to get his account fee refunded (or partially). Depending on what country you are in details will be different, but your brother payed for a service which he did not receive (in full). Now when he payed there were agreements he signed up to and these include ID Software being able to terminate the account if behaviour prevents other users from enjoying the game (incl use of 3rd party software). Now since your brother claims he has never cheated and it is impossible to prove such a negative, the burden of proof is on ID software to evidence their claim, if not they have breached their contract with your brother and he should receive a at least a refund and an apology. In order to operate in the UK, ID Software will have to establish a UK or EU based branch of their company. In order to get the ball rolling legally in the UK for example you would have to identify this office and explain why you feel they are in breach of contract and ask for a refund explaining that if this is not forthcoming you will pursue this in the small claims courts. Free documents to do the latter are available at most Post Offices. Of course if you're not in the UK things will be a little different, but most countries have some similar mechanism.

lol, so it wasnt inteneded as a temporary suspension after all. wow, i would LOVE to know what made them reverse this ban, but im going to take a wild guess and assume it had to something to do with V1T's pro status.

I believe what we saw with all the banning after the patch came live was a "test run" for some sort of anti-cheat and then they unbanned everyone that was banned pretty much. I'm sure they saw lots of bugs and have lots a problems to work out before the unleash it on ql. That would be my guess because you aren't the only ones that were banned for 3-5days then unbanned.

Something seems to be seriously wrong with their automated system I guess? Either way, the whole process reminds me of the medieval way of treating criminals, banning them and sending them into the desert to die.

id should get some of the work off their shoulders. Not only does the community create better map content (give them to us, id, they're ours!!!), it probably also has the power to review demos in more detail and make better judgements.

I'd like to see automatic temp bans from id with the hint "go to #csi.ql to get your case reviewed and resolve the issue" or something like that. And I would like to have them or any other community platform review old cases as well -- the community is already small, imo people who cheated and regret they did should be allowed back in, after thorough review, on probation. If the little cheat tryouts of fellow strenx were in ql instead of q3 we would never see him again in tournaments, how ridiculous is that?

Be carefull if you are using the QL ELO script, QLprism or similar things, ID is banning accounts for using this shit.
At this rate, half the real community will be banned soon if they ban all the QLprism users.

This game seems still a beta, you can't use QLprism that has many things that should be QL content, but you can freely use cheats.

It's very sad that many good players who love this game are being banned unfairly.

It's possible that we got banned cause of QLprism... I actually got it a few weeks prior to the ban. Although they had said that it was a third party software, so I'm not really sure what was the meaning of it, unless blocking their ads considering as an offense LOL. Well, we all want to make money, but I suppose it would be nice if they actually cared about the game itself once in a while. I've been playing quake as long as my account has been alive(6 months consistent though),but I do enjoy it and hope that it becomes a cleaner game.

i use qlprism but i disable adblock and adskip. the program should really not be packaged with them, because a non-knowledgeable non-paying player loses them ad revenue when they use that client instead.

These bans are likely, as some have stated, id testing some internal anti-cheat and just trying to 'make it known' to those that are effected. QL population has plumetted since newest update as well. Not much of a head-scratcher. QL is floundering at this point though, so they are going to reverse the bans, they just want players to think that maybe id has the ability to detect cheats now?

Probably the best anti-cheat would be one that is never officially declared or referenced. If id has an in-house anticheat, they shouldn't say anything about it, continue to ban accounts accordingly, but play it straight as if they are just going off reports and demos.

All these 'wrongful ban' complaints and the absence of ANYONE playing QL lately, makes me think either 1.) There is an anti-cheat now that is HIGHLY effective and has scared everyone away. OR 2.) QL bluffed, but all the cheaters are very scared by the mass bannings and think they might get detected/removed.

played a total of 5 hours... using my phones 4G network, login today, banned. (doesn't say in profile yet, lets me see games, but will not allow me after I try to connect to a server, then it ban kicks in).

Again... the question, why banned... I was playing on this account with 150ms average ping, just for fun... still another random ban, maybe they view the MAC address... who knows.

Good luck, but it looks like quake is out of your future like many other stories I've read, time for a new FPS.... sucks because this is just about the only game I like, time to dedicate time to another company.

Looks like Support randomly bans someone once in a while to keep the mob from moving to the dark side.
(Of course there will be legitimate bans. But those few banned without reason, of course, have to be regular players of whom they can be sure they are going to protest, but not too famous either, otherwise too many will back them up.)
Those players (including me) complain all over the internet, so the mob gets the idea that the 'Anti Cheat Software' does it's work properly.
Hence, no Anti Cheat needed. They let us do the work for them. Smart, gotta give 'em that..
That could also be a reason why they are never willing to respond to the many questions I've asked 'why'. And 'how can you prove me cheating'. And 'Can't you please tell blablabla'.
In my case, in one mail i've asked if maybe someone sent a demo in, accusing me, they told me "You were not banned from a demo, you were banned by our AC, which means you've cheated".
So they blindly rely on ther "Anti Cheat Software".
It's smart tho. They don't have to prove anything.
And we scapegoats simply cannot prove anything.
Leaves us beleaguered.

For any player being banned for this reason in the future, I hope I'm wrong. Because being banned for no reason sucks big time. For more than one reason.

Yeah, well, I'm 36 years old already. I played almost every evening, just a few games, to loose the stress of my job. Almost became addicted to it. Like I have ever had the intention of using some third party software whatsoever.
I'm not interested in trying to get high accuracy or get famous or anything. I don't know whether my profile is still visible, but I assure you that I am, well, was, just an average skilled player.
I've got a busy life, I was really crazy about this game, and spending time finding out how to annoy other players by cheating is the last thing I would do. I'm not any lowlife kid trying to prove myself by cheating. There is also no one to find who has ever had an argument with me.
What i wrote above is the only reason left for my ban I could think of. It fits all my experiences with Support.
But I find it hard to believe myself, too.

Yes, so I've heard. But how is someone supposed to be creating videos when not being able to log in QL? Also someone has told me to show demo's from the last game(s), but I've not had autorecord switched on. Or am I missing something here...
And posting videos from my nude girlfriend is not a right thing to do, she says.
