However it used to be 69.12.109.58, so it did change at some point, not sure when.

Yes i have the same exact ip. Your correct. Its Serverbeach. They suck worse then speakeasy....I don't trust them but its probably nothing to worry about. I noticed the change this weekend.

80 ping is still playable with ql's great netcode...but i'm just curious what happened this weekend?

Routing for GA, VA, NY, Toronto is fucked for me. More than double the ping than what it should be. Chicago is higher but not too bad. Everyone else complains about the issues too but the routing will never get fixed, nor will they change server providers.

That's really interesting, because for me VA, GA and Toronto are completely fine, but NY, TX and IL are messed up. I've heard a lot of people complain about bad servers lately, but nobody agrees on which ones are bad.

but whoever is hosting the VA servers is using ips.known in the past for giving out personal information to the government...and letting them flood filesharing services with fake files. I won't play on them.

GA was fubar yesterday. We had 1 CA match where the lowest ping were 2 local Atlanta guys who were pinging 90. Everyone else was 140ish.

Interestingly, it didn't feel _that_ bad, I guess because we were all struggling similarly. And it was limited to response, not dropping lots of packets. It appears to be more normal today, but just judging from ping tool, haven't been in-game yet today :(

If it's affecting everyone now, it's got to be something closer to the servers. The Level3 thing that popped up last year only affected a subset of players, but this seems different.

Opposite for me - my ping dropped to 20 on VA (from 40), and has remained the same everywhere else.

I'm thinking they changed VA and TX servers.

my pings have increased drastically in the last couple of months and it's definitely the routing.

40 to 130 in CHI
55 to 70 in TX
65 to 80 in NY

the sad part is, CHI is my closest server and used to be my best ping, now it's as bad as playing overseas

traceroute shows pinging CHI sends me to CHI, to WDC, to VA, and finally back to CHI

and if I ping basically any random CHI business aside from QL servers, it stays a steady 30-40ms

I don't think the techs have anything to do with it. It must be about the bad routing algorithms (or rather algorithms that do not give a big priority to latency).

The people that setup the configurations for the routers are the ones to blame, I get routed from where I live (above michigan) to vancouver, to get to texas. Someone is putting in the wrong metrics, or something is failing/failed, or it's just a mess. It "works", it's just not close to efficient.

most servers i notice is optimum. Optimum routing got fkd for me I dunno why. not just in quake. any optimum hosted server i connect to now.

VA is server beach....and TX is i forget what. but theyare the only two server hosts that are diff as far as I know....cooncidentally the two servers where my ping stayed the same. cooncidentally the two server hosts that were the ones most recently changed...before this issue started.

long story short....its about going cheap on all the other servers.

that sucks dude. nowadays for me even in nyc. sometimes i have to play in germany or spain to get a match. where i get like 120 ping. but u can tell their infrustructure is great...cause i get no spikage at all.
