Well you obviously don't know much about Warsow or UT3 then (altough both of those subforums have been dead on ESR since a long time).

Urban Terror seems like a worse CounterStrike and a worse Quake at the same time for me. It's neither one nor the other providing a strange mix of the two with semi-realistic GFX but fast gameplay at the same time and lets be honest, it looks like crap too.

But if there would be enough UT players lurking around on ESR why not open up a subforum, but atm. it seems like you are the only one...

UrT is quite fun actually.

It's awesome, I loved playing CTF. This mod is very underrated.

i would say the reason is a lack of (visible) interest. feel free to post about and discuss about it in the general gaming forum. i mean the fact that there is no dedicated forum for a game, has never meant that threads about it are discouraged.

the world can make team skin packs and all is good as a tactical BF/MW kind of clone with stock maps... with new settings on all weapons and physics on vehicles etc etc,

no, just a mini mod, that makes quakewars good, with identical teams and weapons, using all GDP models, has better settings for better gameplay


just needs team skin packs, and can now use climate skins, settings the climate for the skin to use on players/weapons/deployable/vehicles in the mapinfo file

then all can make urban and tropic maps and forge your own objective based game. i probaly wont add team DM to it

I don't know now, but when the master server was still running it was thousands indeed and more like 3-4. I saw insane amount of crowded servers on some weekends (After ASE went down, I used Gamescanner, which wasn't able to distinguish UT servers from Q3 ones). I wish Q3 had high player numbers like that:(

there is a mod and a standalone version on iquake3. this is clever because UT should be free but the source code not released.

Except Militia is a simple mod designed to improve upon an existing game, (in this case, Quake 4) while UrT is a whole new game designed to be very different from Q3.

the netcode/inbuilt delay is not a major issue in AQ2, while it is in baseq2 and other mods.
That's because of the weapons. As far as I remember only throwing knifes and grenades feel weird or rather not perfectly responsive, but the said delay feels natural on other weapons and even makes the sniper rifle not as OP as it could be.

but I understand your point about other mods though. Nowadays I could play a week of AQ2 and enjoy it, but I couldn't play ra2 for example since I would be pissed off due to the game's netcode.

I like UrbanTerror. It fixes two things I hate about counter strike, which is aim and speed. I don't know what you mean about shit netcode and hitboxes Ins. I haven't played this game since 2009

you need a game on skilth 1.3, with or without bots, you get the idea of all human player game

what i dont like here is the attitude. this kindergarten-style, a game is not overcrowded and mainstream so it must be shit. i dont know where this mentality is coming from. quake isnt any more mainstream either.

doom, quake, id engine games, total conversions, standalone games. theres much to play and test if its fun, why limit on 1-2 games? hopp in world of padman, urban terror, smoking guns, alien arena, tremulous etc.

From what I have gathered, Tremulous was kind of abandoned by the original developers, and taken up by some of the community in the form of a new iteration of the game, TremZ. It looks to be shaping up nicely.

And I agree 100%. I get made fun of by my friends for playing games like Fortress Forever, with about 150 active players worldwide (some signs of growing as of recently, though). I don't get it at all. It's really fun and harkens back to TFC but in the Source engine, and I always find people online when I want to play, so I couldn't care less if it has 30,000 playing or only 150. There are more than enough for a game.

Hell, I'm going to be picking up the Doom Pack off of Steam to try out some Doom multiplayer in the upcoming weeks, because it has a very active community for such an old game, and it's an absolute classic.

These days it's always so hard to get people to try out games that don't have thousands online at any given time, it seems like. :(

I've tried them all and the conclusion back then was all non popular mod standalones based on quake engines are shit.
The good ones are already widely known, such as wolf et and tfc (more or less counts), and the others aren't popular simply because they are bad or the competition is simply better, such as warsow against quake live or cpm.

Name just one that fills the requirements, including not being popular, and that's better than a known paid game of its specific genre and its mods. There isn't a single one. therefore if I want to waste my life playing videogames I'd rather do it on good games and not mediocre f2ps in which it's hard finding someone to play with.

I agree that old games can be pretty fun but no one on his right mind can say that WoP, UrT and Alien Arena are good games by 2012 standards, or that those are more entertaining to play or technically better than cpm or quake live, which is the game that destroyed the playerbase of all those f2ps.

a game that deserved a 10/10 in 1995 doesn't necessarily achieve of the same grade when reviewed 17 years later, as games got simply better. I understand nostalgia is a huge factor, but when you look at them some flaws begin to matter more as the standard got higher, such as poor camera angles (major issue in the firsts 3d console games), lack of content and depth (particularly in shooters), non intuitive mechanics, tedious gameplay and so on.

with that said, when all f2p unrealistic fps games were released they were not up to par with the paid games of their time, as they were simply inferior and/or made mistakes that the industry stopped doing years ago, and now those are in a worse position since they aged badly.
Now if you play one of those it's fairly obvious you'll be having a much better time playing a better game, which probably has a lot more depth, better multiplayer and there's people to play with.

For example, warsow was acceptable when it was released and up until a few years later, but even at that time most people preferred q3, cpm and others. Then quake live was released making q3 a lot more accessible and even improving it, people tried it and forgot about wsw and all other f2p unrealistic fps games.

ok esr has a competitive driven community, but playing mp games is not all about competitive play. thats a crazy perspective. but a plus is, you at least tried some standalones.in all standalones i found something enjoyable and innovate.

with our hardcore quake mentality we did many errors in the past: we said we want quake 4 to be like quake 3, we let it happened that only duell mode was forced to esport. btw the biggest teammode in quakelive is clanarena. what are the ppl doing here? bash on clanarena. maybe a mode that get quakelive alive. must i like clanarena? no. but i dont call it shit.
