I've never heard of a x04, but if there is such a thing it's likely to use an early Agilent (Avago) sensor.

Hey and is that a bad thing? The main thing about the X04 model which I like is the side buttons are huge.

So does anyone know the components in this? Or if I could swap the shell of the body onto a newer IME 3.0 so that I have large buttons but a better sensor?

I don't have any experience with the early Agilent sensors, but I'd assume performance and or degree of correction is much different than ST's MLT 04.

Yeah, I think the sensor would be worse. But the build of the shell looks superior, especially with the large side buttons. I was hoping I could get the best of both worlds, the new X8 Sensor with the body and side buttons of the X04.

Ideally I also would want the X08 omron swithces too.

Hmm, you might be right. Its hard to tell from a photo.
Can you have a look at this one? It appears to have a right handed body not a symmetrical one like the ime.
Also the break between the two side buttons is lined up with the break of the left mouse button whereas the ime has the break closer at the front of the mouse.

Seems gloss surface, black cord so I think that is just repainted FK (AKA Respawn), although I dont sure about the "X04".

But wasn't the 1.1a ambidextrous? If at all anything that mouse there looks to be ergonomic!

Try looking for a pre 2005 x08 3.0. (Or one made within the first 20 weeks of 05)

These have:
Omron Japan D2F-10F switches
ST MLT04 6000 FPS 2.9 MP/S
The best shell/coating out of all the other 3.0's that went retail. (My opinion)

My Explorer 3.0 is from 2002, week 36 :) Almost perfect condition except one scratch at the back. These are rare nowadays?

3.0 Alienware: X09, 2003, 31st week
1.1 Special Edition: X08, 2002, 19th week
and
WMO 1.1: X08, 2003, 35th week (japan omron switches :D)

X09 has japan omrom switches (not all X08 models have these switches) and different surface (more grip). Very limited :)

I swore all of them used those basic small plungers.

Hey , yea I understand the X08 models are recognized as the best. I actually missed an auction for one in good condition selling for $4!
I was pretty pissed.
But I am really liking the side buttons of the IME 1.0, I wonder if you could use the shell of the IME 1.0, with an X8 sensor, and X08 switches D2F-10F
To me that would be much closer to my perfect mouse.

And just so noone gets confused later on, not all Intellimouse Opticals and WMO's are created equal.

Also I was wondering why the IME 3.0 latency for the switches are so high? Is it because the people did not change the usb polling rate to 500hz? Or is it because of the chinese Omron switches? Or is it because of other internal components causing the lag?

But how accurate is it? Which model IME 3.0 did they use etc? and what was their method?

Last but not least, the main difference I can see between the X8 Model and the older X08 model is the X08 has Japanese switches, a nicer paint job? and stronger side buttons.

So couldn't one just buy the recent X8 model and buy the best Omron switches that will fit and have the lowest latency and install them their self?

Also I keep hearing about the X08 models side buttons being more sturdy but I have seen no proof of this!
Can someone please take a photo of the inside of their side buttons and find the actual differences between the X08 and the X8 model?

The graph is flawed.

Not in a sense that the mice tested isn't right, but due to the fact that each specific switch varies in latency. Majority of the "low latency" switches shown there are standard Omron D2FC-F-7N. The electronics and PCB may also have something to do with it, but what I've stated is still a major contributing factor.

PS: I actually prefer the feedback of the chinese omrons in specific mice, but many consider the japan switches better.

Or are you talking about that latency between the time the switch makes a click and between the time the actual contact points connect?

From my view point, there are multiple factors.

-Ikari Optical is leading the pack. Indicates that polling rate is a factor as you've stated. (Mouse defaults at 1000hz)

There's a group all next to each other that default at 125hz without the ability to change polling through drivers. (Habu seems a little out of place unless polling wasn't upped on that mouse)

And yes, each switch can be modified to connect faster. Some have more latency than others and vice versa.

When you say each switch can be modified to connect faster are you talking about the more bulky japanese switches?
