A few additional details:

Prize Pool Breakdown:

QL Duel
1st - $8,000
2nd - $4,000
3rd - $2,000

The duel tournament is comprised of Group Stages, followed by Single-Elmin bo3 matches that lead to a Grand Finals bo5.

QL TDM
1st - $16,000
2nd - $8,000
3rd - $4,000

The TDM tournament is comprised of Group Stages, followed by Single-Elmin bo3 matches that lead to a Grand Finals bo3.

The TDM tournament is still the previously announced 7 map pool, the note of 5 arenas for TDM was made in error.

make freezetag free (its a NEWB MODE FOR NEWBS CASUALS MAN!)

Add CTFS to premium (its capture the flag + CA round based) its perfect for ppl that are good at quake, won't make ppl that have bought pro feel bad when freezetag goes free.

Do these 3 things and quake can survive a bit longer.

Add built in irc chat to organize pickups and quake survives a bit longer again.

Also Add built in voice chat + blocks for TDM/CTF games to become a lot more fun in pubs.

GET LVL UP TO STREAM QCON SO IT WONT FUCK UP

nice prize money, glad there is still some much put up for the ql tournament, but:
announcing it earlier would have gotten us more great signups than the amount of prizemoney will now, i mean its more than six times what dreamhack had but the competitive level will be far below

Nice prize pool for TDM, is it too late to increase the player pool to 32 for duel? 16 isn't nearly enough considering there's no open tournament to put the remaining players into. I know that there's a number of players that have already arranged plans to go (like MavLP Mongo, cha0ticz) that were looking forward to playing in duel.

What about the rest of the wolrd?Its very very unfair and you announce it 2 weeks before the event... watching the same top 8 battle it out every tournament is getting a bit boring really. it would be really cool to have 32 spots and let some guys play that would only play in tdm or people like chaoticz, to at least have a small chance of some potential upsets. maybe even get someone motivated for duel in the future. the top 8 know eachothers playstyles like their own, and a good tournament needs to be unpredictable.

We have a big community and a whole bunch of us pays for the pro subscriptions in order to support the game, yet we are not taken into account for any tourneys. Look at Wild ineter's votes, it's even over team iDemise. Bich1to is from team Wild Ineters, the most famous multigaming organization from Argentina ( www.wildineters.com ) . All players and fans from Wild Ineters support each other no matter which game do they belong to, if you include Bichi1to in your competition, not only you'll raise by thousands the numbers in your streams (As every gamer in Argentina watches Wild i's streams no matter what is the game) but you'll also increase A LOT quake live's playerbase in Argentina, ergo helping us and the game.
I don't think you can understand how important it is to us you include Bich1to in your competition, and how unfair it is that you include 5 players from one country and 0 from others. IMO, id should offer a maximum of 2 slots per country, and if necessary, make a qually in each to decide who should attend to Qcon, i.e in US probablly rapha and DaHanG would win that qually, from Russia cooller and pavel or something like that...

Anyways, it's in your hands, it's your tournament and your administration, you can do whatever you feel is the correct choice, but bear in mind that the game is dying since a while, and you are still keeping the things the same (actually, worse, since there's no more open torunament) , maybe you should think about modifying the way quake is going and start to get more people involved,

Don't see why they can't run more than a 16 player single elim tournament over a 4 day event

I'd love to attend quakecon, but if I didn't have the opportunity to play quake, well I probably wouldn't go. I've fared better than many of those on your list in terms of quakelive, yet probably won't be invited if it's only a 16 player tourney. Perhaps if they did 8 from NA and 8 from EU, but that is quite unfair in regards to the skill gap.

Wasn't claiming to have done anything special, I said fared better specifically to push that point. I play quake as a hobby and find competing in tournaments to be fun and challenging. The main reason I went to quakecon last year was to have fun with the players I play with online and to have some fresh competition (never get to play euros in quakelive). I was really looking forward to playing at quakecon especially this year because my internet connection is terrible now. I ping 40-70 to my hometown, NYC. Lan would be soooo refreshing.

unfortunate given the extent of the notice of the competition for such a large prize pool. Seems rather silly. Anyway I really dislike how you've gone from almost a 60 player (2 duel comps last year) to a 16 this year, no way of proving either of the Australian players we want to send over except for the fact the one we did crushed half the names who will inevitably get invited. Thems be the breaks I guess

I would personally gone with a team if this was announced at least with 2 months notice, but preferably 4-6months when you need to travel cross the world and also find sponsors/team take time off work etc.

Considering the amount of negativity that quake has received lately, it just feels so wasteful of id software or whoever is in charge of Quakecon to fuck it up like this :(

This TDM + Quakecon could have been something special, but not this year...

This blasphemous event is like a ComicCon where only ~40 people get to read comic books. Well done Zenimax, id, quakecon staff. What's next? Mobile games? Rock, paper, scissors? A coinflip championship? Don't you remember how much shit you got for making quakers watch Guitar Hero for hours?

I feel like I've paid an ugly ass hooker for a year that constantly took a dump on my white leather sofa. This is just another slap in the quake community's face. Seriously, I hope you all die in a grease fire, fucktards. At this point I still feel like I care for the game but I could live without YOU! id software is to the quake community what the Bush-administration was to America, lying, deceiving and running everything into the ground. You had a great opportunity but you've failed. I, and I believe many others, have no problem paying you an annual subscription worth of a AAA-game but if you take that kind of money you WILL have to do what your customers want.

I hope the community is strong enough to survive another couple years or more but what I think is absolutely necessary is a game INDEPENDENT from incompetent idiots like YOU, that will try to rip people off!

lol, already there are to less slots for good players going to qcon. also i think if there would be 32 slots it would be still to less.

ql have really a lot of good players but they aren't as known as rapha, cypher, av3k or cooller becouse of that they haven't won to much big LAN events.

but still they can play good game vs pros.

this event need more slots for duel. (tdm is ok i think, but the more = the better.)

wow! That's very nice and bich1to must do a monument to you.
I think a lot of ppl booked tickets to duel and they all deserves to play, not only bich1to, everyone who travel deserves a chance to play with the best in a tournament, and travel from australia, asia and even africa its a long and expensive trip for don't have any chance to participate.
id is killing not only the game but quakecon too. The idea of quakecon allways was a open and masive quake lan with tournament for everybody who wants to participate. I'm not saying that quakecon must hold an open tournament with 500 slots, I'm just saying 16 slots are too few and there are a lot of ways to do it bigger and less unfair.

QuakeCon is the biggest LAN party in America. Many people dream of coming to it. People prepare their trips for months, Australian guys do tremendous work to organize tournaments and get sponsorship to play at QCon, all of that just simply because of such great love for this game called Quake that was made by id software.
And what does id software replies to those most loyal fans? They say: gtfo morons. You are not allowed. We don't care that you gave up months of your precious time to prepare to come here. Quakecon isn't about the Quake community anymore.

There are maybe 20 people at the lan watching the duel tournament and probably 3x that watching the finals.

Most people at the BYOC don't play quake, they just go for the free lan, free swag, and E3-style booths.

Honestly, its nothing like what most people here think its like.

There are many little people, like myself, who have gotten screwed out of the Quake lan tourny experience this year. Its a legit gripe for anyone who made plans and is going to Quakecon and not getting to play, imo.

I'll enjoy watching the pros play live and not on some shitty stream at least.

While i do hate your casting, having you and jehar not casting events from qltv actually hurts quake a bit. We do need you guys to cover streams and even though you are obnoxious @ casting, you do seem to help the quake community, especially NA online tournaments.

hehe why not? i know my limits, i saw them play, im pretty sure about my skill, i have my strats based on them, i train how to play against em, maybe can work, maybe not, i will be not sure untill i play there :) so , all i can have at this moment is hope, :) but im sure about one thing, im not afraid to engage em, i will do my best.

i love clueless newbs. cooller doesn't play to win online. he plays to try strategies/rushes/new moves. you practice it vs newbs and perfect it for lan play vs pros.

this is the difference in skill from say rapha/cypher/cooller to fazz/demon etc

those shitties don't practice properly, they just play to win each game, without thinking.

of course i know he beat zero4 in tournament play on that map, so did socrates. But see, t4 sucks dick. And fazz was/is all aim, hes got some fancy trick jumps and shit but no brain. This isn't q3 where u can get spawn frags, quakelive needs actual talent to trap people, which he hasnt gotten so he fails a lot.

Fazz just doesnt care. He wants to play the fun way. Not like rapha and cooller is playing with all +back. The guy aint even spending 1/ 100 of what rapha spends on the game.....

fazz comes from q3, where he had incredible aim and hit tons of shit. This gave him bad habits coming into quakelive, where he cant hit hitscan for some reason. In quakelive hes all rockets, his lg/rail is mediocre but his rocket play keeps him in most games. He also plays really odd, and its not in a good way, he does things which if they pay off is considered genius, but they nearly never pay off. His game would get better if he had better hitscan aim, but hes far from being a brainer. He's on the side of all aim because its what saves him in games (his rockets), not his brain.

He's overall just shit. He can't aimwhore(hitscan) like q3, so he invents weird tactics that fail. He is creative, but not like rapha, where rapha traps people and calculates the risks accordingly. Fazz just does weird shit to surprise people and fails.

He's either got to get a better lg to be able to win more straight forward fights, or he has to learn better positional setups(for items) to not take damage when getting them. I want him to do well, but he isn't changing up his style or anything, its just getting worse.

Give fazz raphas ability to calculate risks and positional advantage + high acc lg and fazz might be top 3 potential.

I love watching fazz and rooting for him, i remember watching lots of eyeballers tdm games just for him. There are players in quake that plateau at really high levels, but never seem to surpass that lvl to become legendary. Fazz is one of them (jibo/elpajuo/nobap etc). He went really high very fast, but hes stuck on the lip of very good to great.

He just needs a push, maybe ask other players how to practice or change up some aspects of his mental game.

You seem to know an awful lot about quake & it's players, and you're right in saying that he needs that extra 'push', but either way I don't think he cares too much and is happy with the level he achieves.

He's a shitty quake pro, but hes a great quake player. To be a good quake pro, you have to come top 5.

I tell it as it is or should be. So while i enjoy his style, he is terrible cuz he doesn't win. He entertains people so that is 1 good point, but for him and in my eyes, no cheque = not good.

This is why ur newb. K1llsens rail is all about efficiency. He hits you when u really don't want it. Pick up RA? You get railed after getting it, then trying to escape. 160 damage for 100 armor. Pick up mega? Nigga rails you 4 times, sup? u mad? lolk.

K1llsens frequency of rail attempts and ability to hit easy rails is what makes him scary. He hits all the easy rails and some of the hard rails AND some really wtf rails. And he does it at times that scare you shitless. Watch Hektik k1llsen vs cypher @ dreamhack.

Fazz hits a lot of rails, but people dont give a fuck. Fazz hits a rail? meh, ill grab ra. Fazz hits 2 rails? Meh, i was on my way to mega, don't give a fuck. Nobody is scared of fazz's rail, because of the times he hits them.

When he uses it frequently, he hits some easy, misses some easy. Hits a tiny bit of hard rails, misses most. And almost never hits omfgwtf rails.

Fazz rail whoring = trivial
k1llsen rail whoring = my god wtf are you, bot, BOT, /ragequit
