Bad demo or bad game?

It's not very long, but it's a bad game. Some mouse issues, a few graphics hiccups, unresponsive controls, and very bland gameplay. The jokes are rather disappointing, so it doesn't even have that to make up for any of it. Unless the full game is nothing like the demo, I'd wait until this is 75% off on steam before buying it.

watched some guy play through the demo on youtube, I think the game will be quite o.k. at least, guess this summer after uni I will play portal 2 and duke 4 ever ... and in fall battlefield 3 :-)

the demo sucks..
first, it looks like doom 3 with oversharpened textures, fullscreen doesnt work properly, the mouse feels just wrong and the car controls are beyond bad.


second, i hate that real fps get dumbed down so that console fags can play it with their shitty controllers :/

I think there is some hate going on here due to the ancient rivarly between quake 1 and duke nukem 3d ... seriously speaking DN4ever could even be a serious contender for suceeding quake in multiplayer deathmatch, I even like the idea that the railgun can shoot through walls (though it should only be 1 wall imho) ...

Ancient rivalry? Duke Nukem has been dead for over a decade? I liked both Q1 and Duke 3D but if DNF sucks then it sucks. I'd say Quake and UT are a much bigger "rivalry" than Quake and Duke Nukem..

UT has always been a fail imho, never bothered playing it, whereas duke nuke is a different story, due to it's many gadgets, changes that could be done to the environment and also its jokes, it could very well stand up to quake in single player, and there also was a big modem community in european countries for this games, in the usa there were services making it possible to play duke nukem over the internet using a modem ...

Regenerating health blows (because being forced to hide for a period of time is boring and not very Duke-like).
Aim down the sight I've fucking hated ever since it was introduced - either it's a sniper rifle with a scope, or you fuck off with that screen-blocking and pace hindering shit and just have a crosshair.
Two weapons max?? As he says in the video; just takes variety and fun away. You'll walk around with the best long and short range weapons at all times even if you'd want to use another fun weapon much of the time.

Don't mind the modernized gameplay if the content and experience is good. What worried me was more the desert, it looked boring. Lets have vegas or something more exciting.

i was surpirised that even pistol is occupying a primary slot. they just copy pasted halo, but halo guns are all generic while dukes are very narrowly focused for their own use, so at least pistol should have been kept in its own slot (possibly with infinite ammo).

Played it yesterday, got a meh feeling out of it as well.

The most annoying part for me was the mouse feeling/control. When you're zoomed in, it feels like you're aiming with a fucking xbox controller (prolly adapted for those console tards).

gearbox just uses some weird shit when it comes to mouse input, paired with the unreal engine thats always felt awkward to me, AND smt like 70 fov.... fail.

Last hope for a real fast action game with an old school touch is Serious Sam 3, apparently based around the PC version first.

Disappointing demo, but not surprised they made it a console game. Probably take 2 and gearbox aiming for the lucrative console market instead of making sure it is a true duke nukem game. Who in their right mind would make a follow up to an old school shooter and make 2 weapons max? This game will flop real hard unless the console kids buy into the hype.

They already have bought into the hype, you can expect Duke Nukem: Black Ops by this time next year.

but now I am waiting for reviews first ... but still the demo is not so bad, I am not expecting something revolutionary, but if the reviews give the game a positive score I will most likely get myself this game, I played DN3D and also the plutonium pack and they delivered a lot of fun and tbh. I really would like to play (a well done) duke game again ... and afaik Gearbox was opened from developers who were orignally engaged in DN4ever at 3DRealms ... so they understand something of DN3D and also fps in general ...
of course many people will be disappointed, because of the long development time, don't expect too much, it's still an ordinary fps, just filled with some jokes and hopefully some fun parts like in the old DN3D).

but already one year ago I bought myself a new xbox 360 for 111 euro ... can play any game with it, don't really know why everyone wants to buy bigger versions of xbox with bigger harddrives, etc. , I have like 6 games and can play them all without any difficulties ... everything runs fine, I can only feel sorry for people needing to update their pc's every 2 years investing like 600-800 euro only for gpu and cpu while still having to deal with incompatibilities ...

because people DO want bigger versions of xbox with bigger harddrives. With the current generation of consoles you also dont have to upgrade every 2 years. I only updated my gfx to a GTX460 for 100 euros because my old one didnt work anymore.

Would you believe if I tell you it took the same retard (TotalBiscuit) 35 minutes to get through the first level of Amnesia? That's the amount of time it took another guy to speed run the whole game.

I had the displeasure to watch few of his "reviews" and I think I've been scarred for life.

I've just been and rented it for the ps3 and I've had enough after 5 mins! Im going to continue playing and see what happens though but initial thoughts are that the controls feel horrible (even for console) the graphics are already outdated and the 'jokes' are terrible!

well the game doesn't come here in the us until the 14th so I went ahead and pirated it and here's what I have to say so far.
The interactivity is pretty good for the most part, I'm going to go ahead and compare this to sin episodes as I feel it's the closest to dnf. Sin episodes had payphones where you could dial phone numbers and listen to messages, this just has "press e"

the game does play like a shitty halo game for the most part....
I haven't beaten it yet but i've gotten pretty far.

I remember reading an article where there's a part where duke nukem will write an email and send an actual email to your email address..... I've yet to find this feature...... I haven't played the multi but if it plays anything like dn3d or old school dm I'm sure it'd be good but I doubt it does.

I've got this weird fps drops every few mins for 15-30 secs and it seem to start when i enter new locations. Tried to lower graphics, resolution and all - nothing helped. I remember I had similar problem iirc with Crysis 2, but I forgot how I fixed it.

Having played through the original (and the so called sequel) I can say that is just as good, nothing ground-breaking though. Cant comment on the story but the art direction is great.

You basically just described my feelings towards Wolfenstein 2009 remakes (one of the last games I got on its release date heh) since I played wolf in ze mid-90s and was an avid RTCW mp casual around 2002 - 2004, so I had a lot of hopes for this game.it turned out to be a shitty cod clone, i lasted less than 2 minutes before ragequitting and deleting any trace of this game from my hard drive.

The only two games i'm really waiting for are Human Revolution and Diablo 3. Less and less new games really manage to get my juices going, i mean, recently i've enjoyed Portal 2 and Alan Wake, but not much else. Part of me wants to believe it's because i'm getting older and am slowly losing interest in gaming, but i'm still playing lots of oldschool games (just now playing Baldur's Gate 2, finished Hell Revealed on UV in Doom 2 and starting up on some other wads, halfway through Warcraft 2 Orc campaign), so i guess new games are just mostly shit. :-|

I played through Diablo 1 with warrior and also the expansion hellfire ... tried Diablo 2 with sorcerer but in some 7 gates level the boss was to strong to combat, and I stopped playing it ... tbh. I really don't know what Blizzard can do better in D3 ... don't expect it to be revolutionary, but you could as well play torchlight, it's the same, it's just not branded diablo ... I really don't believe that diablo 3 will deliver something unique and sensational

but take Halo for example, I looked at the latest version Halo Reach, watched some demos on youtube, etc., it got splendig reviews everythere, but really I don't find any motivation to play this game, it just looks so boring ...
Last year I played bioshock, it was o.k., but after having been halfway through it was always the same, and bioshock is probably currently the fps with the greatest impact-factor ...
