I'm a huge F1 fan myself :)

Everybody seems to think that Red Bull were sand-bagging in testing; that they never had less than 60kg fuel in the car at any time. As such, never revealing their true qualifying pace.

Mclaren seem to still be really, really missing Newey. Never made a car with supreme raw pace out of the box since he left (and just had to sort out reliability ofcl remember the MP4-18!). They do have the best facilities of any F1 team in the world,and have the highest rate of development of any F1 team (in 2009 they improved that car's pace by around 3.5 seconds per lap in pace). If Mclaren do manage to come out with a pace-setting car at the start of any given season these days....

Ferrari seem to have sorted themselves out with regards to team structure; they were all wishy washy when they had the Raikonnnen/Massa pairing; no dominant team leader, which is what they seem to need. Now that they have Alonso there; they arguably have the best driver in the world, and the team is melding around him akin to the Schumacher era. Their car seems to be the closest to the red bulls in terms of one lap and longer stints pace.

At the very end of the testing at Barcelona, Mercedes put in some stunning lap times in qualifying simulations/runs with their new front wing and a couple of other little upgrades. Really interested to see how good this car is, I'm a big Schumacher fan and I really want to see just how good Schumacher is. Rosberg has never been given a race winning car before, I think he's underrated.

The Renault looks strong as well with their radical exhaust system (essentially making the whole of the underbody act like a double diffuser). Have shown good pace in testing; gutted about Kubica :((( Kind of ironic how he has been driving at the highest standard for several years, and never had the car he deserved; as soon as that car comes along, he is not able to drive it. One nasty head on with the edge of an armco barrier he had, did you see the remnants of his car? Ouch :(


I don't think Massa has ever been right since his nasty accident at hungary; I don't think Kovaleinen is very good (just utterly,utterly, utterly outclassed by Hamilton at Mclaren; also did nothing special with the title winning car in 2008). As for Webber, if he doesnt get the title this year, he probably never will.

Thing I've noticed with the two Red Bull drivers is that their race craft is nothing special; never seen either of them pull off spectacular overtakes; they seem to solely rely on the awesome pace of their machinery. Button/Hamilton/Alonso/Schumacher have all made epic overtakes at some point, can't say that for the red bull pairing.

I'm also really excited about these new tires; they degrade very quickly, and teams are expecting at least three pitstop races to be the norm (they should bring back re-fueling imo); tire strategy from the team and management from the drivers (could be great fot button) is going to be key. I'm looking forward to some ingenious strats from Ross Brawn :)

And the rear wing! Hope that contrived system actually works and allows some more overtakes.

Agreed, Vettel is very impressive in the wet, on a similar level with Hamilton and Button, and the Schumacher of old :)

Used to watch f1 in the late 90s but nowadays it is so fucking boring. From time to time I watch some motogp (<3 laguna seca) and wtcc (<3macao).

Senna got pole for that year, and demanded that it be moved to the left hand (clean) side of the track. It was moved back to the right after Senna got pole that year (reasons unknown). So "in protest", Senna takes out Prost at the first corner, as well as to secure Senna the championship. I couldn't live with myself, deliberately putting others in serious danger in a hissy fit/for personal benefit :(

The 1988 collision was nowhere near exactly the same; it wasnt pre planned with the intent of taking out both competitors. If you look closely at the second video below, you can see that Senna was behind Prost going into the chicance; for an overtake to be legal/acceptable, its accepted that the car doing the overtaking move has to be ahead of the "overtakee" at the apex of the corner. That was not the case here

You can see there were no large forces during the impact, and that Prost did NOT severly side swipe or put either competitor in a dangerous situation; a complete and utter contrast to the 1990 incident at the first corner. Senna put both of their lives at considerable risk "in protest" of Jean-Marie Balestre's decision, and to win the championship. You can't argue that is nothing short of disgraceful sporting conduct.

^^ You can see that Senna was not ahead at the apex of the corner, and Prost had already started turning way before Senna's car was alongside his.

So in short, Senna deliberately put both of them in a very dangerous situation (which has caused deaths), in comparison to Prost the year before where it could be strongly argued as a racing incident. Massive difference if you ask me.

If he wasn't going into the first corner in first place, he was going to take Prost off. He even said this before the race. On the flip side, you also have him jumping out of his car mid-lap to help a crashed fellow racer, so you can't say he thought of nothing else but winning

I still think his conduct at the 1990 race was awful; what would happen if someone did that today? They would most likely be banned from the sport.

i actually didnt know that senna died lol :D so i was really shocked in the end as it came as a surprise for me although i grew up with f1 and watched it when i was between 10 and 15 probably.

The bit that'll get you watching it again (if you do) is when Senna is sitting in the cockpit before the race of his death, it looks as though he knows it's the end. Of course he's sad about Ratzenberger but the look on his face just looks as though he knows something we don't
