Keyword in the OP is viewer. I'm guessing he's saying standard users would go on watching demos the way they do now. Prem/pro would get a (nice) user interface to select, view, and maybe control playback. Which I think would be a great idea.

having an interface to play them better is fair, but getting more tools for demos is stupid. just like getting more cvars/cmds etc.

though im all for pro members getting access to serverdemos. i dont want standard users to get everything that subscribers get, just things that would be fair.

It would be a privilege, not a right, id could remove this particular privilege to any subscriber if you provide an incriminating demo.

I would really like to believe such a function could work in quake live. Sadly, from what I am experiencing in the community, giving ANY privileges/rights to anyone always ends up bad. Really bad. It's not a bad idea per se, kinda like communism. It's the people that would ruin it and abuse it.

Well they can't give it to everyone, would be worse than doing nothing, on the other hand the lack of in game kick is sometimes an issue, allowing it for subscribers sounds like a good compromise, but if you think the cons outweigh the pros, we can do without it, it's just a privilege among others.

I miss spiterbot, I found it more fun to play than most humans, especially on tourney4.

- cons of playing humans
- they get offended if you call gg 5 mins in the match too many times perfectly knowing that you can not make a comeback.
- they get tired of playing with you if you get raped 3 times straight and wont give you practice of 10 maps, after which you might start getting closer to their level.
-also humans tend to get tired and might not play to their 100% after 4-5 maps.

-pros of playing humans
-spiterbot was incapable of laying traps, if it sees armor it will take it, wont hide near it making you fall for it.
-humans go into this crazy +back mode where they dont engage you at all, that is no damage give/take situation, bot always wanted to give damage to you.

yeah spiterbot in ql for premium users will be great especially if the bot can be trained to learn trapping and +back.

play cpma, apheleon or rat bot at skill 100 are pretty good. only problem is that their movement is cpm specific, as in playing vq3 will be very weird :p

yeah I played the 100.aph bot on VQ3 and was like fight some retard who can do perfect circle jumps side ways not the best thing to do when your half asleep :D

What I can't understand is why you aren't willing to pay for the game. It's about what 20euros for premium which gives you everything you need. If another game came out you wanted to play wouldn't you buy it?

Reading your comments it seems you have a problem with spending money on QL which can only mean you don't think QL is worth spending money on. There's tons of great ideas available for Quake Live. There was plenty in late 2008 as well.

Very little implementation.

I find it hard to understand why development has been relatively minor with a game that already had its artwork made and its engine programmed.

It has been 2.5 years since the open beta, a time span in which some entire games have been designed from scratch and released to multiple platforms.

Then there is the sporadic developer feedback that perpetually hints at "good things on the way".

Quakelive has a small development team. A couple are probably pulled from the project to work on rage/doom4 periodically.

Skepticism prevails among a lot of veterans (including subscribers) concerning QL, they believe the game is too old or not newb-friendly enough to have a large(r) community, stuffs like this, maybe some folks at id share the same point of view (which is plainly erroneous imo).

Because the Quake Live Manager, Syncerror, is incompetent. He should be replaced with someone who won't place his friends above the game. That's just stupid and a big reason why ql has failed in the US.

Here are 3 reasons why QL is failing and examples (taken today) of that (on US servers at least)

Lack of players. CTF, a once thriving gametype, especially. Earlier today, no players! NO PLAYERS! and this is after the fact that they changed the skillmatched locks back for CTF/TDM

What fucks this community the most is that all (good) maps aren't available for all players regardless of their status. That's the biggest shit mistake ever.

I mean look at those days at QL when all gametypes and all maps are available for everyone - THE COMMUNITY IS FUCKING ALIVE - at that time. I'm premium user but I'm fucking sad when I see how TDM/FT/CTF is alive in public servers (pickups is a different sad story).

Also, more activity means more skill matched games for every tier, so downtiering/uptiering is less needed. You have higher chances to play fair games, and therefore less reasons to whine, to /ragequit, or to /quit QL cause it's full of cheaters.

It's almost 2 years and we even don't have a proper id-made demo player and u want gtv/ladders/lan play.. good luck with that. With this speed we prolly gonna get 2 new crosshairs in the next 'big update'. Is ID development team lazy, unskilled or just doesnt give a f*ck?

They are not lazy, nor unslilled. It's just that the Team for Quake Live is super small. When they've brought out the training maps the team consisted of:

,where as Epic had Around 80 people working fulltime on developing Unreal Tournament 3.

Ofcourse developing Quake Live is "only" porting Quake 3 and it's Addons to the web, but it still takes some time to do this, plus some of the people from the QL-Team work on Rage/Doom 4 so they have again less time to work on QL.

If id Software would invest a lot of money and hire a full team to work on QL we would get the things mentioned above plus a lot more in no time, but id won't invest money in a project that can't generate real profit for them. QL is nothing but a test-enviroment for their future games and won't be seen as a full game by id.

QL has got a lot of potential and if they implemented at least half of the things mentioned in this thread, they could make it very profitable. It's their own fault they dont make any or make a small profit from it.

No it's not their fault. If they would like to make profit out of it, they would have had to sell it as a new fullprize game, but that does not work, because there allready is a Quake 3 available for ~5$ and noone would give a fuck about QL since they can play Q3 with everything QL has. They decidet to make QL free to play and to ad a subscription-system to it to atleast cover the most important expences QL is causing (originally they wanted to run the game only by ingame-adverts but this idea failed horribly since noone wanted to pay for this adverts, especially if they don't work properly).

IMHO something like 10 peeps working fully on QL would be enough to implement all the things listed here fastly, and 10 peeps is just 5% of id employees.

I dont get why anyone would be so cheap as to not pay 24 bucks if they are playing the game. Except perhaps if they live on wellfare or something, but then quake they should probably not be their priority anyway.

It's paradoxical but if, let's say, the premium "Q3 maps" and FT were available to everyone, I'd subscribe immediately.

To a certain extent, I can understand why QL itself is "low priority" for id (or Zenimax), but, guys, at least give us a Quake "alive".. I mean more players to play with, a growing community, etc. It's just a matter of will.. The premium servers could be populated 24/7 worldwide instead of being empty. Tons of newbs on Overkill, Overlord, iFT.. Old schoolers on cp1, cp5, Thunderstruck, FT.. I don't see how it could be a bad thing for QL.

51 of my QL friends have this award, same number or 2-3 less than QL-subscribers

not suprised by that. You'd never find a stat like that in a game like warcraft3 where the average person has a sub 50% win record. If you're one of the few to have more wins than losses than you are usually towards the top of the ladder/leaderboard. That just shows how seriously flawed the skillmatching system is on quake live and why this game will never progress forward. That + the fact that this game is not advertised to anyone is the reason it never got off the ground. Whoever at Bethesda is in charge of overlooking the progress of this game & quality control of it's product and the developers should be fired. Either that or the developers of this game have been lying to bethesda about it's success/# of subscribers. That wouldn't surprise me either as i doubt anyone from Id's parent company is actually overseeing the project at all as it's undeniable that the playerbase has almost halfed since last year.

I don't know if I'd blame Bethesda for the apparent lack of communication and progress on quakelive. From what I remember, prior to id being bought those things were only marginally better than what they have been.

well Id's parent company is still certainly pulling the strings based on all acounts and a big reason why ql hasn't been advertised more and why we so little transparency is seen on the ql dev subforum. But either way, you're right, id is rather poor at communication in general. Seems they're too busy playing together on friday nights with their .403/.404 crew than actually talking to the playerbase (non employees).

I don't know the focus forums but from my pov qlive is kinda run by the community again - only difference is a QA instance which is id itself

A tremendous majority of them would like to have at least one of those things, yes.

The question is how many would pay for it? In terms of percentage, not much, I'm well aware of that, but it's not necessarily bad by itself and that's already the current situation today anyway.

Quake Live might be saved by a cooperative "campaign" mode- with coop maps of course, of necessity. This would give people of highly disparate skill levels a much better way to ENJOY a game together. What do you guys think? It's been done already with COOP OR DIE, and in Quake Life.

Also, maybe they could slap that on top of a random level generator, like the one in NetHack, if it stacked multiple levels to form one game area. ;)
