Online QL HUD Generator BETA (140 comments)

Creating Custom HUDs for Quake Live requirers a text editor and a lot of time. But

Pavel "namad" Kiselyov is about to change that with the online HUD Generator Visual HUD.

Check out the the tutorial videos below or just go to isualhud.pk69.com and try it out yourself.

you can already load custom huds if they are made with that site (little disk in the lower right that looks like a save button)

loading a hand made hud with messy codewill require a lot of work from his part i guess so i wouldnt expect it anytime soon

Guys, Loading HUD is possible. Did you noticed .vhud file provided within downloaded archive? Open it with any text editor you have and copy the code. Then, go to visualHUD application and click Load HUD icon bottom left (small diskette with arrow). Once dialog window opened, select custom hud and use the code from a clipboard.

CPMA hud is very different from QL. QL hud is more customizable, which makes it harder to creat a hud designer.

iirc, in CPMA the number of hud objects and the contents of the objects are fixed, you can't change them. In QL, you have the freedom.
For instance, you can never have two health bars in CPMA, but you can do this in QL, as many as you like ;D

You should download SuperHud editor, and make a CPMA hud that's entirely health bars covering the screen, entirely. The more damage you take, the more your health goes down, the more you can see!

The whine may be annoying, but what else can people do? In the past someone that wasn't satisfied with any aspect of the game could have tried to improve it himself. Stock maps suck? You make your own maps! Gameplay has been dumbed down? You make a promode! Gameplay is too elitist? You make a noobmode! You ping 260 on the server closest to you? You run you own server!
Id was a pioneer in this field with things like releasing the various Quakes' source, and I'm sure it contributed to the series longevity more than its excellent gameplay did. Now they're pioneering the introduction of the console model to the pc market. Allow me to say "meh"

i just find it hilarious that id has actually contacted someone about making a scoreboard, especially when its pretty much the cpma scoreboard with a few extra things (read cluttered) and some nice graphics... as a pic

Also, I made the scoreboard on my own, without any contact with ID software. I was informed well after I made the scoreboard that ID was interested in it, so I assisted them. I made it for QL, but ID didn't get me to make it, or tell me to.

gillz decided to do a mock-up for a better ql scoreboard cause the current one sucked. yeah old news, but hey he did a good job and id liked it aswell. sure he usedthe cpma one as a basis buts thats how it is with (incremental) advances, take something that is good and works and polish it...

it wasn't a diss at gillz, I stated in another thread that I thought it was nice and I look forward to seeing it in the game. he took the cpma scoreboard and made a mock up with nicer graphics and few extra bits, that's a fact. if he wants to make out as if hes revolutionized gaming scoreboards and take my comments as an attack then so be it.
anyway, my point was that I find it hilarious that id weren't able to figure this out themselves and incorporate one.

Why would they need Gillz for that when at one point arQon was working on QuakeLive and they presumably had his access to whatever they could have wanted from CPMA? Honest question. I am not a nub and I didn't even know too much about custom huds. Now I can design my own without having to dig into the cfg again... When you have a +40 hours job it's seems like a big pile of wasted time to do anything more than just play some quake...

It's ridiculous how after 2 years you can't still see how many item pickups you did on a duel, no gtv, no demo viewer, no hud modifier, no LAN support, and so on...
