Schedule: Passed

The 51th ZOTAC QL Duel Cup will be played this Sunday. Once again, SE brackets will be used with bo1 matches until the quarter finals. Then the games will be played as bo3 with the exception of the Final being played as bo5. The prize remains 100� for the best player!

ZOTAC QL Cup participants need at least Quake Live Premium memberships to participate as the map pool consists of Aerowalk, Battleforged, Blood Run, Furious Heights, Lost World.

Hektik is a joke.

A map on which u can get from mega to ra in 2 seconds shouldn't even be considered as an addition to the mappool.

It's rather noobfriendly though. I can see why some people like it...

Reason? I would agree with you if you could take both ra and especially ma easily but that's not the case. I mean it's your problem if you don't deal enough damage while your opponent is at ma or if you are dumb enough to jump down when it is up and you get rocket raped :x

Yeah I'm gonna get shot for saying this, but I prefer playing and watching Hektik to Aerowalk. It's such a classy dynamic map to play. People all say it's just +forwards and impossible to come back when other guy has control but it's just bullshit.

The more you play and watch it, the more you realize It's a positional map. Over the last couple days I've jumped into the US servers in the evening to watch Z4, CZM, Vo0, DaHang etc practicing it for IEM and not once have I seen a bad game or a game that wasn't close. People would give up the mega just because taking it puts you in a bad position if the other person has a rocket advantage. They would also give up RA's in favour of a safer YA/shards/GA because if the other person has decent positioning/aim on the person making the jump to RA then it's not worth it.

Saying that it's impossible to come back in control is a load of crap

OMG...every map is positional dm6, t7, battleforge etc so really... as long as u have several levels in a map it is usually positional(guys raining rockets from above ,being in positions where u are hard to aim at yet can aim opponent easily etc etc).

You can come back but if 2 good players are playing it end up being a 0 brain frag fest where once u are in control u get a shitload of frags, it impossible to play defensive on that map and its probably the easiest map to control all items.

Probably the worst map.

I don't even play quake live or any quakes for that matter.
I just love watching demos and analyzing peoples tactics etc
Just like how a football coach never needs to be a football player, but can understand more about football then most top football players.
I started following quake 3 in 2001 and never stopped following quakes.

Highly agreed. Though DM6 is overplayed, I think replacing battleforged with it would have made it a pretty good mapool. The old mapool had the perfect balance of brain and aim maps. Putting aerowalk puts more emphasis on aim and the ESL one even more so.

Tons of one-sided matches?
dm6 and t9 were producing some of the most interesting games in high-level tourneys.
And so far I haven't seen truly boring aero & hektik games. "Brain maps" produce the same amount of one-sided games as "action" maps, but on latter even one-sided matches are somewhat interesting to watch because of frequent great shots, movement, etc.

battleforged is a great map in the beginning no one knowed how to play it, but now the last final that was played that had battleforge was rapha vs k1llsen and that game was amazing.

Every map rewards aim, some just reward it too much that, u don't have even need to use ur brain if u have better aim then opponent.
I am in favor of maps that reward all skillskets, movement, aim, brain, hearing, item timing etc
Battleforge is a great example of how balance all skillsets.

It's easily one of the best maps to play and watch currently. People talk about control, but honestly, with positioning and aim you can take a guy with 200/200 down with 125/0 within a couple of deaths and then you're back in control

The one problem with that map is that the green armor area is a bit useless, apart from spawning and grabbing the RL, and outside the teleporters to mega and around the red area, the floor is all fucked up and 50% of rockets dont connect becuase of 5 different levels of floor.

that said you can play defensive and gain control, and the map has quite a bit of creativity available

Concerning your point about hektik being spawnrape only: probably I haven't played hektik enough yet (and ofc im far away from the top level) but it really is quite refreshing in how fast it plays out.
having fixed first spawns could fix the unbalanced-ness tho, dont you think (which is also very appearant on other maps)?

I had tons of Hektik games which went back and forth and btw. dkt and Z4 played shit when they were out of control. Obviously they didn't know how to play it defensively and you can do it.

Well anon, T9 is still a relatively new map that shouldn't have gotten canned. If really old maps like ztn and dm13 get to stay and an even older map like aerowalk get included, why should a newer map like T9 be removed?

T9 is a map that can still be played tactically instead of the usual rush rush rush maps that are now being promoted. I have no problems with ESL wanting to include new maps but T4? Really?

People have never and will never agree with any map pool. Some believe that old maps do not belong in Quake Live, some think Quake should favor action and aim instead of brain play and anticipation, etc...

In my opinion, the best system is to include ALL the played maps and add 1 more VETO possibility, so that every player's preferences are respected. Instead of whining about a map that you feel is not fit for competitive play, just veto it.

If you don't want to play an old map or do not want to practice a map, you could simply veto it. Right now you have to practice them anyway since every cup has a different map pool.

T4 is one of the best maps in quake, it's been there from the start and has prooven itself to be a good map like dm13/dm6/ztn/aero.

One of the nicest maps to play in quake.
I bet you people like ZeRo4, jibo and fazz was not to happy when their homemap was removed. Where they have delivered amazing games for years in the past.

your quote about kilsen as "next generation player" makes sense after watching these zotac demos. He's not JUST railing a la stermy, then +backing or smothering like cooller or some kind of timing fiend/aimer hybrid like rapha -- saw kilsen jump into low prob melees, attack at weird times, and pull off funky strafe moves and dodges in close combat. Think he's simply found a way around nerves to play in a state everybody aspires to: the SAME way whether down in frags or up by a couple.

p.s. throw T9 back in map pools?

Kilsen's rails obviously overshadow what he's been hitting a ton of lately: rockets -- look at the ztn matches -- he's near flick on rox shots/predicts; and given the speed of ql rl on the "newer" smaller maps, kilsen flick translates equally from rg to rl.

how can i get a sens/accel like k1llsen's to mess around on. He uses a logitech and dodgy driver sens so i cant just use the sens/accel equation thats going around.

Strenx who was owning those cups for a while had almost the complete opposite settings and if you look at pro's cfgs you'll see that there is nearly everything between the strenx's ultra low sens and killsen's ultra high sens. I could also mention that he was playing with the same settings a long time ago and sucked.

Just assume the evidence, cfging has the smallest part in killsen recent sucess. Its almost as stupid as wanting to buy the same shoes as a footballer that you find really good. But as stupid as it is, it works, otherwise, there wouldnt be no sponsors.

You might say that it works on me too because I'm probably using a pro's cfg like everyone else. Well, you're wrong, I'm using noctis cfg.

1-2 weeks before gamescom i lowered my sensitivity from 3.45 to 3 in quakelive and accel from 0.12 to 0.14. since that change i rock, hehe. i would not call it a high sensitivity, more a mid sensitivity. with my sensitivity settings i need ~39cm for 360� and dont forget the senscap.

i saw movie how you play - didn't look like you do very wide hand moving, like avek (~30cm) or strenx (50cm), but 39cm... it's really wide, imho.. didn't understand your 39cm... )

If it's 39 cm/360, there's no way that it can be sens 3 at 1000 DPI. And from what you posted, it appears that in_mouse 2 would mean that the driver settings don't matter?

Sens 3 at 1000 DPI is almost 8 @ 400 DPI, and that's a very fast sens thats much faster than 39 cm/360.

he installed logitech drivers and set a lower sensitivity (apparently works like windows-sensitivity settings but also affects sens via in_mouse 2)

and they translate over into the game, so the factor for 2/10 logitech should be around 1/3 if we can rule out any influence from quaklive accel (which we can't say because we don't know how k1llsen measured his 360)

it can, since in_mouse 2 is only ignoring the windows filter, not the driver filter.
if you use exactly the settings including the driver settings, is the only way to get my mouse speed.

Does these tourneys have any admin? It looks as if like zotac doesn't have any admins anymore and runs by itself.
The rules say that players must record demos. Why are they not collected and uploaded? Why no answers for the reasoning of current map pool? Who is the admin anyway?
