Thats already too much for ctf, when we compare the level of competition between CTF and DUEL.. IMO slightly less (20 000$) would have been enought and 5000$ spared could be spend for hosting additional TDM / 2v2 tourney with prices like 1st 3000$, 2st 1500$ and 3rd 500$

As for paying to program it, nukm's proposal was to give it to someone who is willing to do it. I mean, the original gtv was done for free.

To be honest, I think it would be faster/easier/cheaper/better to just pay a random modder to make a web-frontend to Q3.

As for id, I already said that they can try and get more money for it.

But since, they don't have the product at the moment and show no signs of starting on it, they wouldn't really lose anything either, but possibly gain by getting another tool for promotion.


As for someone making a web-frontend for Q3, I am not sure if the existing servers could be used regarding legal reasons. And if that's allowed if there are enough servers. And even if they did use Q3 they would need to make massive alterations, balancing the weapons, making skill-levels, etc. Hardly "just" a web-frontend.

In any case, I believe because of the existence of QL that ship has sailed.

All those things being made sound more realistic than having id do it. There would be no problem integrating it with Q3, as the source is released under the GPL. You wouldn't be able to release the game for free, unless you went the openarena route, though.

I agree that it doesn't look like id is working on gtv. However, they already have implemented skill levels (that do work to some degree) and balnced the game. They also have a functioning web-frontend that fulfills the basic requirements very well: finding and entering servers, not crashing (much), etc.

So the only thing left to do in our current comparison is gtv.

Now paying someone to do gtv or paying someone to redo the entire web-frontend, gtv should be considerably cheaper.
[I will ignore the possible savings for infrastructure-upkeep, by using existing Q3 servers versus having to control/provide the QL servers, as it is unforeseeable if the Q3 infrastructure can be used and is sufficient]

Skill levels can easily be done with elo, as all games should. Balance/etc would be near-impossible - not because balance couldn't be achieved, but because the community would never agree on values.

I doubt it would be cheaper to get id to make just GTV, though. Hell, it's sickening that we even have to discuss fucking PAYING them to do it.

team games with elo isn't nearly as easy as duel (compare with HoN if you want, it has a similar system). But yeah it should be used.

Still implementing it with a log-in system and checking servers for the numbers, etc should consume and hour or two.

I agree about the balancing problem, basically the modder would have to force the weapon balance.
So he either needs to do it anonymously, not play quake at all, or by like arQon in not giving a fuck.

hmm you're right. Prices for flights sure rose a lot, probably becaue of the short time span.

Maybe get your team to assemble at a big airport (frankfurt, london, paris) and try to bargain a last minute deal if there is space left on the planes. If it fails just enjoy the city you are in :P

Yeah, finding sponsors to foot a huge travel bill is next to impossible, but we did try.

I know broken have tried to find sponsors to go to QuakeCon for years, and not had much luck.

Also, glad the team game is CTF. If there's any teammode that is going to be awesome for spectators that don't play much Quake, it's CTF and not TDM.

Why does clamp-ok sign up for the amateur tournament? He was pretty good in q4.. I somehow doubt that he is is worse than 64 other players in this tournament.

T9 is fun to watch and I'm disappointed they replaced it with hub.
DM13 is worse IMO. Boring match where you can go 5 minutes watching both players just collecting items and avoiding each other.

T9 is shit to watch. Spamming, +backing through teleporters, shitty cracks and forced spawns galore
