No, it is nothing against strenx. I just wanted to bring some diversity to the mappool because dm6 is gone totally random with the new startspawns and during the last weeks I saw countless dm6 matches in G Data & ZOTAC where the startspawns decided the outcome beforehand and the opponent just quit after 30 secs because it was pointless to continue with being 0:6 behind without the slightest bit of mapcontrol.

Start spawns might give you an advantage, but they wont make a game, the decisioins made in anger and frustration will.

For fair and balanced game you 've removed dm6 and added... tourney4?! bua-ga-ga-ga.. .))

It is not necessary to make decision for all others players... Let players choose a map from big mappol, you could add t4, t6, qzca2... No need remove dm6..

T4 was removed to make space for t7/t9, not because it's a badly balanced map.

T4 is a fantastic map to play and watch now. I've played it a couple times recently. One was a high scorer that was close and played it again about a week ago which went to double overtime and ended with one frag.

And when (if?) we get some new maps, at least one, it will be possible to make 7 maps mappool (saving bo5 system for grand final ofc) which I think will be much better and fair then the current one.

We will see about that in the near future i guess. In my oppinion it's better to keep the mappool at 5 maps than at 7 but I will let the players decide as soon as we got some more playable duel maps =)

excellent change vash ! First of all t4 deserves to be back as it is a great map (already re-introduced at CB and ESH) and second of all changing map pool after some time can only be a good thing.

If we cant have more then 5 maps in the map-pool (which would be a good thing imo), then we should focus on at least, changing map-pool regularly (half a year seems reasonable like sc00T suggested).

maybe it's just me that always rushes like a maniac on other maps with lg dunno, just seems boring =/

to see how to play it do this:

1. watch old Stelam demos on it. Stelam vs blokey or some other UK player. He was the first guy to figure out some basic strats on it. See how he perfected the deny rail to the other guy strat.

2. Follow it up with watching swedes on it, Fox and Fazz.
fox vs daler to see how to tackle a rail whore.
fazz to see item management strategy.

3. Then watch zero4 demos on it. Best use of pacing the game. How to go on spawn rapes and then fall back with defensive rockets and rails. Zero4 vs fox, cooller, czm etc.
imho he was the best player of the map in its history.

Bonus material:

1. Watch a few Russians on it... Lexer, pele[pk], k1llmaster etc to see a few new use of rocket angles.
2. more recently see rapha vs chance, rapha vs spartie in it.

After all this apply some of the knowledge in game, you might join the t4 fan wagon. However if you want to stay a dumb shaft-whore and play t9 and dm6 24x7, its your choice. Let cyberfight.com be your friend for demos.

what I am saying is that your opinion on a map should not even be considered valid if you are not good on the map just because there is the possibility that you did not get the map
for example I could tell you that t9 is all about PG spam and LG, but I can't rely much on it, as I did not play t9 too much

wd, already have 2 maps without rail in the mappool, time to add a map which is rail heavy and has no shaft.

Now throw out t9 for aerowalk and dm13 for phrantic and we have a pretty decent and balanced mappool for all styles..

Also because I'm new I only play duel on dm6. because it's the ultimate noob map. I have played t4 two times and lost both times, which means it's a really sucky poor map. So please don't remove dm6 for a map I know nothing about because now I will lose in the first round of the tournament instead of the second round. Thanks!

his overall avg acc may be only 5% higher than some pros, but at DH vs. av3k I believe there were points where 2gd said he was hitting 60%+ on LG. There were points during the match where his accuracy actually went up so much it would have taken 70%+ acc to increase it to where it was.

He's still getting outplayed by players, no doubt, but its not the same players anymore. He's went from getting outplayed by people lower in the brackets to only getting outplayed by the people who make it into the top 5-7. I may not like his attitude, but he's getting better.

I've also seen him use a variety of weapons more than just the LG lately, which have also improved- he's not just relying on his LG anymore because that's what's expected of him. Players seem to know that if they get within reach of his LG that his acc's are so good that its hard to go toe-to-toe with him even if they are stacked b/c his aim is so concentrated by the time they take him down he's dealing so much damage it still hurts overall.

lg vs lg and in all normal situations he has 40% while the rest had 30-35

5% lg is enough to win shaft battles, and if you're not winning them because of the other player's stack, they'll still be low by the end of it and on maps like dm6/t9 you can easily come back from a death to convert.

If you really think that strenx is all lg, then man, that just proves your ignorance. I don't want to lick strenx balls, and i'm not saying that cuz he's french like me, but sry to disappoint you but he still got one of the best rail ever. Ever. You have to play against him or watch demos of him on t4/t7 or even hub to understand. His rail is definitely at least as good as stermy's one. But the main reason why you can't see it is because of the mappool (t9, dm13) and his insane LG. When he plays dm6, he knows that he can base his game mainly on the shaft, unlike some others pros like for example k1llsen, so then many times he doesn't even need the rail to regain control. Basically strenx is aim heavy player with ALL the weapons, except probably with the rox & plasma, and he's not as dumb as you say. I'm 100% sure that you have almost no clue about duel and then you can't understand why he's making this or that decision, you're only capable of seeing and understand his lg rushes, and probably the basic items cycling & timings. But what you don't seem to realize is that in reality it's more complex than that, and because of his aim, he can do some moves that no others pros players would even dare to try. I'm not saying that strenx is the smartest player on earth, but even if he had rapha's brain, he would still rush with LG and his style of play would also still be different than rapha's one.
Also, if you think that 5% more LG acc on overall accuracy is nothing, then man, pls, go back to your previous game. Actually 5% IS quite a big one. It can make the difference in A LOT of situations, especially at this lvl.

And lmao @ "he's getting outplayed at lans". He loses only against players like cooller, av3k, rapha, so let's say that when he doesn't play top3-4 world class players, he wins. And he still managed to beat av3k once and get close games against cooller (overtimes on ztn, etc etc).

because when u shoot enough bolts and have a certain accuracy say like 35 and in one battle raises to 41 it takes a certain percentage of hits to raise to said acc after using it a lot. shooting only 40-50 acc in that situation isnt enough to raise it so many points so it has to be above 60%+ ok?

btw, reaching a certain lvl, it's FUCKING hard to get like 2-3% more on your overall LG acc. Especially if you do a lot of "in front" lg battles.

going from 20% to 25% is almost natural, you just have to play more to get these extra 5%. But going from 30% to 35% is way harder and you need to practice the right way to get the extra +5%. And i'm not even talking about going from 35% to 40%, i would say that only a few people on earth are capable of that, and strenx is one of those (i'm not talking about 40% in team gametypes, just talking about 40% in duel, against top players). You know, some people are naturally talented to time items to perfection (cooller), others are naturally 5 steps ahead of their opponents (rapha, aka brain man), and others are naturally good aimers, that's life.

He can be very annoying yes, like how he states (he will brush this off as a troll like he does with everything stupid that comes out of his mouth) that he let me win the two first maps in the last gdata so he could 'own' me in the last three. Well that is what you have to deal with when playing him. Yes it is in fact very irritating and can affect decision making in the game cuz you really want to kill him - badly.
Also when he gets the luck with spawns etc you wonder if there really is an old man with beard up there who pulls the strings just to fuck with people.

Imho we should play all QL duel maps suitable for competitive duel even if it has to be 9 or 10 maps (of course after update). Let's just change map picking system to drop 2 maps by each player and then pick from 5 that left.

Then you if you want you can always drop 2 maps that you don't really like. And don't tell me that it is hard to prepare to tournaments at such big number of maps, most of you play them for 5-10 years so if you didn't learn how to play them until now then it means that you never will.

Pretty stupid to whine about map change considering this is just a 1-day-cup with 100€ prize. I could understand if this was an important tournament like IEM but now it's just silly. If you don't like it, play in zotac, atleast they haven't removed dm6 (yet).

I really wish these weekly cups could do this more often. It's a pity there aren't really many maps available, but experimenting is a good choice nonetheless.

The sad part being it's a choice and not a mandate, at least not so far. If these weekly cups do this more often, we'll see many upsets, which to me as a spectator is worth a lot.

Zotac and Gdata could've easily run the first 10-20 cups with one map-pool and then switched over to a different one. Dunno why it took Gdata so long to realize this, but this is indeed a welcomed change.

Am I the only person confused with people whining T4 is rail heavy. Sure it's a more crucial weapon, but to be honest I use it as much as the RJ, plasma, shotgun and machine gun...

it is in fact a rocket heavy map, when played defensivly. its mostly knowing where your opponent is (even more important than on other maps.. but also easier to do so) + rocketcorner trap him or rocketcorner +back when hes going agressive

True. T4 is the apt example of awesome ranged combat. Since there's no LG, one mostly witnesses a good distance between the two players unless a close rocket or SG shot needs to be landed on the opponent.

While dm6 is horrid, t4 is even worse. Would have rather seen *Gasp* CA2 over replacing something bad with something even worse. Cant wait for new maps, hopefully both dm6 and t4 are never used again.

It was a generalization, where-by: Any map would be better than t4 ... t2, t6, ca2; Hell even hub would be better than t4 and I think that maps abhorrent. Cant wait for some brand new maps to come out, hopefully we(I) never have to see dm6 or t4 again.

It will be a good match, but strenx will do good on T4 though, even back in the days that was a map he was alright at.
Because it was less timing and more map dynamics.

dm13 is a piece of shit as it is. it's good to play, i guess, but it's very boring to watch even when there is some interesting positioning and outsmarting-your-opponent play going on. It should be replaced by t2 in its classic form. bring back t2 already.

Actually played a duel on T2 the other day for shits n giggles and I honestly can't understand why ID butchered that map. Were they not able to use it in it's classic form because of copyright or something equally stupid? I mean cummon... a CHAINGUN?!

no, it's good for pub play, only for fun. You know, not everyone is a tier5 duel player, there's in fact quite a lot of people who enjoy playing ctf on space maps with more weapons and runes. It adds some diversity to the game, overall if you're only a "casual" quake player, it can improve your quake experience.

That said, i don't care much about it and i don't play pub ctf with runes & chaingun, so that's fine to me. But i can still understand that it's fun for the noobs, tho.

I'd like to see more new maps actually. All the replays I've watched showed always the same maps. There are lots of maps for Quake Live, I don't understand why we always see ztn, dm6, t7, etc.

Are all the others that bad ? Or do they keep choosing those maps because they have a "legendary" status or something like that ?

When you login on quake live, you can be sure you'll get a vote for dm6 if you're not already playing it or if you play a CTF game ^^.

What other duel maps would you suggest then? The only ones that can really be considered applicable are: ztn, dm6, t7, t9, dm13, ca2, t6, t4

The rest are... bleh, and even a fair few in that list are... meh

It's because people are

a) sheep.

and

b) lazy

If some authority figure (e.g. tournament organizer / pro player) tells them that map X is a good duel maps they will just accept it without question. Same with so called "bad" maps.

In 99% of the cases a person claiming map X is bad has never even played the map. There were plenty of people claiming t9 was a bad duel map, or dm20 was a bad tdm map etc, before some authority figures forced people to play them. Now they have suddenly become excellent maps.

To determine if a map is really good or bad takes a lot of repeated playing. This requires actual effort, but since people are lazy it's a lot easier to just claim map X is a bad map and keep the safe same old same old. There is basically zero experimentation with map pools because people are scared shitless they may actually lose on a unknown map. And of course losing isn't fun, which keeps this vicious cycle.

Something like t2 could easily be added to the duel map pool, but o dear it has some new features like a scary chaingun. I can't go learn a new weapon, better to just call it a crappy map. etc

It's quite pathetic really.

Never had to change the value in quake live, but in defrag, its impossible to load some of the more bigger run maps or tricking maps without setting the hunk megs to 256 or something like that.

When you start opening the map, it just puts you back to main menu.

I don't have any problems running the game per se, its just I need some help for my FPS- I can't keep a constant framerate. One game I'm 60, next 125, next 75-80. I usually set other programs on my computer to low priority, shut others off that use alot of cpu, etc. but sometimes that doesn't help either.

regular fps drops for me aswell, didnt find a solution for it, tried everything and now im just trying to not get pissed off by it :D (can drop to 10-20 fps ingame)

yeah, me too. Its aggravating to say the least. Also because I'm using the framerate-dependent accelstyle 1, it totally f's with everything.

In your Nvidia (or, ATI) settings manager, make sure u set the game to use "single display performance mode" instead of whatever else, if you haven't already.
That helped me with a similar problem.

fazz did not play at his best imo, he is best when he camps a lot at one YA with his rare random long range railgun shots + defensive close SG/RL shots till he is fully stacked

I mean I think he is better than strenx on t4, once he plays t4 the "serious" way (which includes more camping and less random risky shots who gets him exposed)

He said he playing it in a "showcase" way after the game. Strenx has to push down a button all the time to talk (he said it himself) AND it must he quite hard to concentrate while making epic comments for 10 minutes. I don't think any of them tried really hard to win, it was only for fun.

If you watch my pov you would see why I lost. I caught him off guard in so many angles but still missed super easy shots. And fell on the plasma bonuce because of slippery keyboard in the end, and in the start i had a HUGE ping spike which made me hit the floor 2 times with rl and kill myself. The map is not more aim than any other map, infact it is alot better than the old pt4 because of shotgun now actually being a good weapon.

It was fun though.
