yes it sounds like the power supply. My last computer started that and the PS ended up being the problem.

yeah when mine started this, it was already 4 years old so I just bought another computer *shrug*. I needed one anyway and am keeping the old one around to tinker with.

Someone above asked if led's kicked on. Mine was on the back, and come to find out there were certain patterns to the lights that meant different things. My computer manual referenced them, so you might check there. It could be something else, but it really sounds like power supply.

For awhile before I could buy another computer I opened the side panel and when it started doing what you described, when I started fiddling with the wires it sometimes would come back on, but it had a short in it that was causing the problem.
