Because you know when the game is going to end anyway, it's still practice to play while behind, and unless there's like a 10+ frag difference you might be able to catch up.
If your behind in starcraft you could just defend an attack and draw the game out for like half an hour before loosing.

Exactly, something that cleanly ends the round.

For tourneys it's just about a rule for speccing up counting as a concede.

Like I said, if there was a clean way to concede (e.g. a concede button) there would be no need for a rule since upon conceding it would act as if the game had finished.

But considering id's pace of granting wishes, which do you think is more likely to happen first?

i agree perhaps if games are 15mins long like back in the old days but 10min isnt really much time at all. perhaps a concede command would be cool but the opponent has to accept it as well. could lead to some dramas

Opponent has to agree will defeat the purpose, which is admitting defeat but stay in the game and not lose face.

This should be done for public duels.
In tourneys I want to watch the players reach the zone and being incredible, it would be sad for the spectators not to see the total games because the score is one-sided. Score is not the one and only thing that matters for the spectators.

it would kill the motivation to make comebacks, the game would suffer, so its better to disencourage ragequiters for the greater good ( watching more comebacks in games)

we are not talking about a button that would provide the quit.. if someone wants to quit, they will quit anyway, having a shortcut button is irrelevant..

the mentality of the community is what we are discussing, making quiting aceptable would change the outcome of some games, because more people would quit before time, since it would be a normal and aceptable thing to do

Although I agree, that for most games the outcome would be the same, because it would be impossible to comeback, like your 20-0 example, but there would be alot of other close games where people would just quit, at 3-5min, and could still make a comeback if they tried, but why try? its easier to quit and replay the match right? : )

The whine/flame/ragequit/excuses is what's annoying.
If an opponent says something like "gg, got no chance.." I'd say it is accepted.

5 or 10 minutes in, the playing field is the same. Makes more sense to switch to a round-based system (hi hoony mode) than to add features that emphasize the problems with the game.

my rational side agrees that technically hoony mode is less luck based

the problem is that how people use these spawns is what makes the difference in a lot of people's playstyle.

some play aggressive with their spawns, willing to let the items sit while going for somewhat risky pushes using weapon advantage. others play it safe and keeping the items on tight control and use the large health advantage to get the kills.


some are willing to push in for the kill, knowing even if they lose they can rebound off the spawn and likely kill him anyways, regain control and return to normal play afterwards. Others play extremely passive and wont give up the kill under any circumstance.


anyone who plays the game understands this, and I imagine that if hoonymode were to become the 1v1 platform, the game would be stripped of these different "styles". watching rapha is already boring enough, imagine entire tournaments with players only playing that style. good lord.

Which is why I recommend switching to weaponstay and new maps with it.

Quake has no clear "victory" condition outside the base score/time system. Ergo, you are playing to "most points in 15 minutes", not "until you feel like saying that you give up". Starcraft is played with no time limit, and the victory conditions are quite clear.

the same reason its unacceptable to give up in sports. if everyone thought "oh well im not winning so why play" then no games would ever finish. its common decency to just play for the last couple of minutes even if theres no chance of a comeback. obviously something like 20-0 half way through the game is a different story but come on if you only have like 3 minutes left just finish

people give up in chess all the time.
Some people even see it as bad manners to make the opponent play till the checkmate. But chess might also be the only game where players agree on a draw, so ...

same applies to games like starcraft.. in football, or basketball however, it would be considered bad manners to leave the playing field, even if its 5:0(in football that is)

the excuse with "you still practice and thus improve your skills" is rubbish
on the other hand comparing it to footbal is silly, because there are teams, so basically in order to quit the match, they should have to vote for it so wtf no way they could decide the quit options in football
on the other hand ql doesn't mean duels only, it has tdm and ca too, which can't just quit all of a sudden, without voting (which would need at least a break in the game, if not a break in the gameplay, so it's not very probably to happen)
so the main reason is that when they created the game they had tdm in mind too, not just duel
they did not develop this option out of comodity or it's just that they did not think that much about the differencies

why would you force some1 to spend their/his/her further time on one particular server

IMO i think the game should automatically finish when its a 13 (or other amount )frag difrence.
1. The Player in control doesn't have to keep playing for the next couple of minutes wasting his/her time.
2. Aggressive players will try and hit the frag limit(so from a spectators view should be good)
3. The player out of control has to play more cautious and not give away silly frags but their is still a big enough gap to do the Attack and Attack again tacit.

Yeah right, in hon one person won't concede, then later another player won't concede out of spite for the first and spends the rest of the game cutting a path through the forest

You can do this in most good games by calling timelimit although it does require the other person to agree.

Surrendering is more important in games like SC/HON because those games are longer. They should just make stats not fuck up when someone quits.
