This is OUTSTANDING! Thanks for what you've done! I own Quake 3 Arena and have only recently started back at it...been looking for mods, etc which would allow for post processing effects like the one's available on the Quake Live version. I wanted to ask if there is any way to set up a custom map rotation with QuakeLive Offline. Thanks, and again, GREAT JOB!!!

The launch page etc is really neat. And the game started up without any errors. Fps was very stuttery though for some reason. dipping down to 50-60 fps etc so it was unplayable.

there's an intel sponsored lanfest that wanted to have quakelive as its main game 45mins from my house. When they found out what it takes to get quakelive on lan they completely dropped it and added cod.

Nope, won't work. The frontend uses Qt so it's pretty much platform independent, but the loader (finding quakelive.dll, window creation, patching memory etc.) is very much Windows specific.

So it's possible to add Linux and OS X support in the future, but I have no plans to do so anytime soon. However, you or anyone else are more than welcome to give it a shot :)

The biggest problem demowise is that you can't stop demoplay. Once you've launched a demo, that's it. Esc doesn't stop it, alt+enter or alt+tab don't work, win button doesn't work, ctrl+alt+del works but no mouse cursor appears (and trying to shut down this program manually via ctrl+alt+del doesn't work either). Otherwise it's much nicer to watch demos with than qldemoplayer, but unless this impossibility of stopping them gets fixed, I can't see much use for this program, unfortunately. =(

No, in this case there's no problem.

But I tried a few more times to start and stop demos the normal way just now, and didn't see any problem at all. So now I have no idea why it happened the first time and can't reproduce those conditions. Somehow it happened at the very first startup of your program, that's all I can say!

so that u can change your name, but stats would keep working

but probably id doesn't like the idea of change names, otherwise a casual noob player wouldn't like to play with 10 ppl today and see all of them 5 days later but not notice it because names are different

that would means that if u see a pro in a server, alone, u probably wouldn't join it to fight him, maybe just to watch him
and if he changes name, u can be raped easily, or u can't fill a server of spects because the pro is playing!!111

but anyway noone died in q3\q2 or whatelse online game, because of this...

dunno, but i don't really think that stats are the matter of why we can change names no more...
ok they removed the option when stats system went on, but, is it really necessary ?

Everything works fine here, showing scores, stopping demo 125fps etc. Love being able to choose the demo directory. It's the next best thing to double clicking a demo file. good work.

Very nice! I'm always wanting to watch demos in class or when the internet is out at my place, so this is super nice.

Now, what about LAN play? Seems like we're getting closer to the server executable. If you can create a 'match' on LAN with bots in QL, surely there's something we can manipulate to allow other players to join it.

So this client is pretty awesome. I love it.

It works in the one computer lab we have at school. What I'm going to try to do is get the LAN files that someone released for QL (No, I won't give you to them) and run it in a 32bit Linux VM, and map it to the local network. Then everyone here can just run the client and go to console and do a /connect.

Not for practice or demo playback, no. That would defeat the purpose of being to play offline.

However, you can't connect to any server - LAN or otherwise - without authenticating, which probably involves ensuring that the server you're trying to connect to is id's and not a pirate one. Long story short: no unauthorized LAN play.

It should work with either plugin, since it doesn't actually use the plugin at all.

In what way were you forced to install the IE plugin? Did you get an error message that QL isn't installed? If so, any chance you have the exact error message?

do always a backup of your ql folder, and use qloffline in standalone mod
then you'll have no problem starting it, as soon as he update the program you just need to update the folder
it takes a couple of minutes, and avoid this kind of problem :P

Error message:

Error calculating pak path.

Change directory command 'baseq3' failed on "C:/Documents and settings/desktop"

Edit: I was trying to put the home/baseq3 folder on the desktop. This isn't the computer I normally play QL on, so I copied my baseq3 folder to this computer, made a folder called "home" to put it in, followed all the rest of the directions (so I thought). Hope there's a fix. Thanks

There's actually two "baseq3" folders, one with the relative path "quakelive/baseq3", the other is "quakelive/home/baseq3". Anyway, you need to copy the entire contents of the "quakelive" folder, not just "baseq3". See here for instructions.

made some tests and only the files inside the "home" directory, and the bin.pk3 inside the "baseq3" folder is needed. others like map pk3s are not needed to be overwritten by the old version. it's only about 13 MB but i'm really wary in uploading/sharing it :X

yes, it does work. just rename your old quake folder to 2quakelive, and you can keep it in your id folder with the newer quakelive folder. whenever you want to play offline or watch demos offline, just make switch the name around. just dont forget to rename it back once your done, or else it will get update lol

If you guys would have downloaded quakelive offliine the first time, and actually made a backup of your quake folder, you wouldn't need to do this. :|

If you're downloading a 300MB+ file, then maybe it's the quakelive folder without the update. It's exactly what you would have had, if you would have saved your old quakelive folder before the update.
