I have personally tested the mouse on Steelseries Qck+ (cloth), and Puretrak Talent (cloth), and both have tracking problems. My Razer Destructor (hard plastic) did seem to work flawlessly, but being a hard plastic pad it is a piece of shit.

They make a good mouse but there's always one problem, so when a new comes out, you're: 'like finally the perfect mouse for me"...But theres a new problem...And you wait for the next mouse to fix and add new problem...

The 3g sensor is the best on the market, amazing tracking speed, flawless accuracy, good compatibility, and configurable drift control. Why wouldn't people have assumed that the 3.5g would be similar?

It works flawlessly on the steelseries 9hd.

And again the salmosa is like 1/10th of ur DA

Because the Salmosa has horrible drift control turned on with no way of turning it off. Using both side by side it's really annoying to use the Salmosa after using the Abyssus.

i was actually gonna buy salmosa some time ago j4f, but then i received a mail from razerguy telling that there was gonna be ndc firmware for my DA which prevented me from going to the shop to buy it :D

Im using a grey fatpad and it is skipping like hell.
I just started up a game with my roomates goliathus control pad and it seemed to be working fine. I'm going to try to find my old one and play a few games, i'll post the results later.

Used the Goliathus control cloth pad with it for about 3 hours and it never skipped. Just ordered the same mouse pad for myself.

This is actually a really awesome mouse if you have a pad that it wont skip on.

I have the goliathus speed and it never skipped with a g3 (very high sens tho). So that's probably the solution.

the g3 skips on everything if you dont have high sens. I remember that it worked better on a goliathus control than a QCK+, but it was still unusable for me

when you said mouse "skips" did you mean the mouse jitters you get when you move the mouse vertically ? does it jitter vertically with the golathius pad ?

on my fat pad, it did the "jitter" thing randomly, and would skip as if i was moving it too fast and look straight at the ground.

On the goliathus control, it hasn't skipped or got the "jitters" yet.
I just got in my new goliathus control with the splash logo. Haven't tried it out yet, but im expecting it to be fine.

This is actually a really awesome mouse with the right pad. Now I just have to get use to the more sensitive buttons. Im use to the stiffer ones on the WMO and 1.1

Cypher was using the Abyssus with some Goliathus pad at the recent IEM4 Euro.

Abyssus in combination with a corepad C1 has the same problem as QCK... but also the same fix =)

Does anybodies 3G Deathadders have the same problem as the abyssus, because I have two that jitter when moving vertically, but some people insist that theirs works well on the puretrak talent and qck+

I found that practically any mouse has staircase/jitter on high DPI.

For example, on my Qck+, with Razer Diamondback 3G @ 1800 DPI and default windows sens I can notice staircasing/jitter in Paintbrush. Ok, I thought, Razer sensors + Qck.

But when I set 1800 DPI on XAI, I see a similar harshness/staircasing in this test.

In both cases, the effect is negligible with low DPI (800).
How can it be explained?
V1) High DPI are marketing BS and are made with software scaling.
V2) Qck does not provide small enough spatial details, so the sensor has nothing to catch to compute such small physical movements precisely.

Any ideas?

Good to see someone else sees the problem in deathadder 3g.

When I do 3/11 windows the small jitters are smoothed out, but it can still go off at a 45 degree angle when I intend for it to move down at times.

Not sure how everyone cant notice this.

I read the 3.5g sensor has even higher lift-off distance than the 3g sensor. On some mousepads it still tracks on 5 CDs.
Maybe the next sensor will still track at 10cm lod yay

Abyssus seems to work well on Goliathus control, which is a little bumpy but not a terrible pad overall.

The problem i'm having with the abyssus is it scraps horribly. On my puretrack or qck hvy you dont notice it as much. But on the 9hd it feels horrendous. like everytime i move it i'm destroying my pad - i hate that feeling. I would need to replace these feet or put feet over them - problem is they dont make replacement feet for the abyssus in particular so Ill have to get ... maybe deathadder feet... and put them on top. This might also lower the lift off . its noticably bad.

Any suggestions on which feet youd use on your abyssus??

If you don't mind putting feet on top of the original I'd recommend buying small ones designed for mx300/500/518. I have ones from Qpad that works great to put on top of pretty much any mouse. Id probably recommend the ones from steelseries though since theyre much cheaper.

More importantly, what pad has the lowest lift-off distance with the Abyssus. Please report the LOD of your mousepad if its not on the list below, or if you get a differing measurement. Please report in CDs preferably and only give numbers from testing the Abyssus (not DA).

1. Stack CDs/cards/whatever until the Abyssus doesn't track anymore (measure with ruler if not using CDs)
2. Tell me which mousepad you measured this on.

** 1 CD/DVD = 1.2 mm

For example, Puretrak Talent and Steelpad 5L

Tracks normally at 2 CDs
Does not track at 3 CDs.

Therefore, the listed LOD is 3.6mm because it's the required distance you need to lift your mouse before it stops tracking. Please give your numbers that are consistent with the above reasoning.

it's easily adjusted to 1.2-2.4mm on ANY pad with a couple of simple actions
jittering is WAY more important issue, i got my abyssus yesterday, not tested yet on all my pads properly, but it seems that all textile ones more or less suffer from this problem, will test and prolly make a report about it l8r.

putting tape over the sensor also decreases its performance. I can easily get it to skip when using tape to decrease the LOD.

I have seen no "jittery vertical movements" with this mouse on any mouse pad I have tested. LOD applies to all mice, where as jittery stuff does not. Good try.

im not talking about tape, LOD is easy to decrease by removing the plastic led holder and moving led a little bit away from the lens. that's what i did long time ago for my DA and it didnt change perfomance at all.
as for jittering - try moving the mouse vertically after rotating pad by ~20 degrees and you will notice serious jittering on almost every clothpad

I just tried that with my abyssus, but it seems u actually have to move it a fair amount further from the lens, because i didn't notice a difference after. (broke the mouse with that try, but thats another story which has more to do with my solderingskills :P).
So i will check it again with my new ordered one.

well i think i would use this on my func pad but the scraping is attroctious - it feels nothing like my 3.0 or wmo with hyperglides (that feels great). I'm considering putting the deathadder feet on top of the abyssus feet ... any ideas?

Now (having Abyssus) I understand what all you mean.

I thought it was old good Razer jitter on Qck with some movement angles (which all Razer mice have, I'm sure).

But Absyssus can make giantic zigzags (with "normal" small jitter in between), which nobody can ignore.

The effect arises on Qck (Fibertek) mousepads, only with vertical movement (in mouse coordinates), with specific angles in mousepad coordinates (often vertical or 45 degress suits "well"), and with specific speed (slow, but not too much).

Also the effect is most atrocious with 450 DPI.

Damn, even assuming some direction on Qck is bad (repeating pattern), the mouse misbehaves only in its own vertical direction! I cannot find this effect in horizontal movement regardless of Qck rotation.

So Razer's (or Avago) gifted developers managed to make a mouse which works differently in it's own vertical and horizontal directions.

I can't imagine a stupid image processing algorithm that can make this difference. The only chance is to set LED wrongly somehow, like it's emitting light with very sharp angle to surface along vertical direction.

I've bought also Goliathus Control and fUnc Classic Cloth, will report the results later.

the only non-jittering clothpads are goliathus/mantis control, every other pad out of 20 pads i tried makes the mouse jitter like hell so that's impossible to use it :/
funny thing that hybrid pads like Qpad CT(which is extreme close to cloth ones and even slower than some of them) have perfect non-jittering movement at any angle

LordGurciullo, the problem with scraping exists because they made mouse bottom very narrow -- it's almost twice leaner than max mouse width.

So, even smallest skew makes the mouse plough your mousepad with its sharp bottom edges.

BTW, you can stick MS-1 WMO hyperglides (best skates ever) to any mouse -- you don't have to put them into intented places. But with Abyssus's narrow bottom it can be difficult.

Question: is abyssus firmware updatable?

The abyssus is the same damn sensor and it does.

For any who are not seeing the problem, try opening paint and moving ur cursor VERY SLOWLY in STRAIGHT vertical lines.

So Guys incase anyone was wondering. I ended up putting the Deathadder Hyperglide feet ON TOP of the abyssus feet so i could use it on hard pads without scraping. It worked PRETTY well but not perfect because they over lap it doesn't feel as good as if there were feet actually built for it. I'm sure I could play with this and get it damn near perfect using other feet or trying other things. But heres something else.
It doesn't even work perfectly on all hard pads. It really is pad dependent as we have seen.

Steelseries Experience I-2 - No problem whatsoever and lift off distance reduced to lower then anything ive ever seen. The instant its off the pad it stops tracking..

so one might say - use that pad. Problems are it still scraps slightly (feet) and pad to small for me (my sens.)
I really dont like the idea of having to use a certain pad.
My func f30 my destructor and my steel 1-2 work good. but the only one id really use out of those is the func, so if i keep this mouse i gotta play with the feet more and use the func.

The really big thing that REALLY bothers me is that i concluded this is one of the best mice in the world (for me) other then that.

Actually I believe it's firmware problem, cause why it happens much less with 1800 DPI?

Now playing on big Qck with 1800 DPI, good mouse despite the bugs, very lightweight.

Which way have you got the pad placed? My DA 3g and DB 3g had problems with a Qck but if you turn it on it's side it seems to work... Don't know why but I don't use Razer mice anymore so it's not that much of a bother now :P

i had it straight but i lean my mouse slightly inwards when i use it
that said i tried different angles and it didnt help, it just made the mouse jitter when i moved it in different angles (but it was still there)

Abbyssus works perfectly on the talent if you turn the pad 90 degrees. At least with additional feet on top of the old ones, havent tried without.

I fixed the liftoff a piece of paper by covering the lower half of the hole. Now its less than 1 cd (with additional feet) and it doesnt seem to affect performance.

I reluctantly bought my second abyssus after returning the first. This time I also bought the goliathus speed with it. I am getting zero jitter, even after trying stupid angles. Fucking shocked. It still jitters badly on my clean Qck and talent in the normal positions and even when those pads are turned 90 degrees they have small amounts of jitter.

Out of the box the lift off distance was 4.8mm but after applying crea*'s simple post it fix http://esreality.hexus.net/?a=post&id=1780191#pid1780191 it is now a much more comfortable 2.4mm lift off distance. (thank you by the way, it works wonders on my DA, Abyssus and Salmosa asian edition which had a HUGE lift off distance)

Now with no jitter, no sensor based positive or negative acceleration and an acceptable lift off distance I am actually happy with my abyssus, which again is a huge surprise to me.

Edit: Nevermind, jitters on the goliathus as well. Razer scammed me again.

I hope they re-release this, I bought one tonight and the shape was perfect. The jitter was unbearable and I had to return it, I got a Xai instead which is pretty good but somewhat heavy (same weight as explorer 3.0, I weighted them).

If they ever fix the abyssus I'd buy that in a heartbeat, I liked it more than my WMO that broke and I was the biggest WMO fan ever (I might ditch the Xai and go back to it, but I want to give it a fair try).

I'm getting the one I got 6+ months ago exchanged. Let's see if it's still the same.
