Clan Arena is a teamgame. It´s not only about individual skillz but alot of teamwork is also needed. Alot less than in Ra3 atm. But if CA gets bigger teamwork will make a bigger role again.

Clan Arena is, when it is played seriously, a total team game where no single player should be considered better than the other. It is about synchronisation of various styles, strengths and weaknesses, ultimate meeting and absolute map control. The 'pros' can only shine in 3on1 situations by overcoming the enemy team in a spectacular way.
Now your 'best' individual CA player you can only find through spectating on puplic servers. This is the place where you gain particular CA fighting skills, and yes it can be very gratifying observing those.

No matter how hard you try, if you played real CA then you guys wouldn't bash it so hard, for me it's a very special gametype about movement and positioning skills.

Most TDMers and 1ON1ers don't like it, because they are missing the needed set of skills required for pwning the Arena, it simply makes them feel uncomfortable not being number 1.

Also current set of maps in Quake Live misses something like map1, 8 or 13, where you could gain insane speed through wallrocketclimbing and jumping into railgunners faces :0

you're overthinking it, i've played quite alot ra3, and it's really not as 'deep' as you make it sound. go tower, lg, win, if you lose 3 players, fall back and rail, win.

he is not overthinking it. But how CA in QuakeLive is now its just FFA. I guess that teammodes like ClanArena will only gets big with a serious playingstyle once we have good/enough of tournaments for it with prizes.
I was playing abit of Ra3 and other things that are important are shooting same enemy, right weaponchoice. If someone is using rail and miss his shot it´s like 1 player less............

And ra3 wasn't always like that, at one time it was played like how stier described it. Was hoping quake live would bring back that old time CA flavor, it didn't. All we have now are people "holding" areas.

So your trying to say that people who play duels don't like to play CA becouse they suck at it and are afraid not to be numb 1? no offence, but I realy think that's stupid.

Well, as a matter of fact most' Quake Pro's enjoy some quick rounds of Clan Arena. But they are not into playing real wars at all, because they have much less chance to shine with their special abilities, I am sure they feel their talent is wasted somehow.
I have never really had the motivation, or let's say nerves, to overcome someone in duel and just rape him badly. For me it was always about the beauty of a good and equal match, where you win by one round only and have a lot of nice scenes to watch, either done by you, one of your mates or even an enemy player. That's, by the way, one of the main differences between a good duel gamer and a good team player. Admit the fact that most pro duelers competing in team modes are constantly outdone by real tdm/ctf/ca players.

If you would have played the various modes as much as me, you wouldn't ever ask that question. Just placing rockets is so different in CA, mostly because of the much faster movement speeds of enemies but also because of a lot more vertical action. In CA you have many more situations for railflicks and really, your concentration and reaction has to be much better than in TDM/CTF...
Whatever, in the end it's a useless discussion, RA3 is dead!

you need at total different mindset playing CA.
some skills are ofc. the same. Like: aim, map knowledge, general game knowledge and positioning.

But in CA you need to be willing to sacrifice yourself for the team, and to be very aggressive (works best at the moment) and also try to obstruct the other teams ability to gather.

So its hard to point out an individual in CA, since its 75% team skill and 25% individual skill.

if i remember right fnatic plays CA clanbase. So if what u say is right they shouldn't stand much of a chance cause they mainly have individual skills. Doubt they practice much CA

if they have team play they could win it for sure. but if they just run around and only think on them self, they would loose badly.
