It's a decent cRPG, but it doesn't compare to the old classics, Wizardry, Fallout 1, Planescape: Torment.

The blood is cheesey and ridiculous (fighting a bunch of rats and emerging covered in blood), and a lot of the dialogue is cringeworthy. Very banal plot as well. Apart from that it's an ok game.

I even had to switch it to easy at one point.

I've played through pretty much the entire game on Nightmare. It's not especially hard if you use a decent setup and some strategy.

thing is, you could have some graphical issues nowadays with the new directx / lcd tearing, but give it a shot, its the best game ever made. together with bg2.

Advice: dont install any mods whatsoever, infinity engine modding is terribly bugged, just go for bg1 + tales of the sword coast expansion pack, put on the latest tales patch, and thats all.

also clean baldurs gate 2 + throne of bhaal, latest patch, nothing else.

For those of you just learning about Baldur's Gate Tutu: it is a spectacular project. It is essentially a total conversion for Baldur's Gate 2, allowing you to play Baldur's Gate and its expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast, using the enhanced Baldur's Gate 2 engine.

I'd also like to add that BG1 is underrated and BG2 is overrated.

I am waiting for my new PC and i will give it a try. I played it a couple of minutes on my old one but it looks awfull with lowest settings ;). But i have to say that it looks promising. Last game i enjoyed so mutch was The Witcher so i think i will complete it.

The game is great for sure but there is one thing that I really dislike about the game, the engine. I hate when RPG games are divided into tiny areas with loading inbetween, even games like Oblivion and Risen manage a seamless world with better graphics to boot.

It just feels so limited, small and annoying when you have to load everytime you want to take a few steps into some direction, especially as there are invisible walls all over the place.

The engine seem to have the same problem as the first DOOM-engine as well, no two floors can exist over each other. Meaning you cannot have a design where you can for example walk both on a bridge and under it, or have a top floor and a lower floor which are both accessable. That was solved once Quake was released so it's odd to see a modern game have that issue.

Oblivion was awesome. But then, so was Doom.

Personally, I was very surprised at how smoothly the game ran. When I compare it to NWN2 it is definitely MUCH smoother, although the Witcher could come close I suppose.

I play on toee right now, it is a much harder rpg, every time you die you have to start over, so you might play well for a few days, rise up your levels and stuff like that, and a single wrong fight fuck you up really good -it deletes all your saves, too, just in case =))

there is tho one guy who (iirc) talks about branka and his / her travel to deep roads but i get no actual quest from it.

for branka you have to go into the deep roads, i guess a good indication that it works is that before you get into the deep roads (right before the 4 dwarf guards) you get a new dwarf companion who also wants to search for her. If thats not the case i guess the further paths in the deep roads are also not avail :S

or have you been at caradin's crossing down there? (or even further than that?)

i got no dwarf companions there + deep roads are dead end :/

i have 1 quest called betrayal from within which remains only to return to vartag and other quest which name i dont remember also return to vartag. Above vartag is that quest return arrow but when i speak with him he asks did i talk with harrowmont yet, only thing you can say to him is no.

and when i try to talk to that guy who is harrowmonts right hand or whatever, he just says fuck you. :/

It's ugly and the shoulderpads of the armors keep cutting into the torsos in the conversation scenes, but the story isn't half bad. I killed a giant dragon today :D

soooo i destroyed all of the dlc items when i started the game (long time ago), cause i didn't want to play with them, overpowered tbh, and i didn't want to sell them either, cause they are worth a lot of $$$ in the start, so i destroyed everything, and left only the quests (WK, SP).

now i can't reinstall the dlc for the blood dragon armor chest which i kinda want to wear now (lvl 14), even after reinstalling the game clean, cause no dlc items appear in inventory whatsoever. the only thing that was left was my character save folder.

tried installing dlc prior to patches, after the patches, there's no difference.

so i'm screwed.

You could try to uninstall + remove all registry keys by hand then reinstall, but I doubt it will help if you want to keep your savegame.

so, make a new hero and get the items. Copy the savegame to somewhere else.
Open the game again, destroy the items and nothing else, not even move. Make a second savegame.

tale a hex editer and see what number changed.

Change those in your original heroes, hope and slay an oxen for your preferred god, cause the odds are low it will work :)

its dumb to start the game and put all those items on yourself, totally not balanced.

i already have like 30hrs of gameplay, and it seems like the "item destroying part" is buried somewhere in my savegame, and there's no way for me to start all over again.

i deleted EVERYTHING except my savegame folder, done a clean install, patched, added dlcs, nothing happens. and i don't know if there's a registry key related tbh.

well the registry attempt would just be quite easy to do. just use the search function for the company and once for "dragen age" and delete everything that comes up.


But I agree it's probably broken in the savegame, which is why I wrote the stuff in the end. Back in the day you that quite an easy way to pimp your characters, read: cheat :P

Dunno if it still works as easily with today's savegames.

i zipped the save and mailed to a friend of mine who has all of the dlc items, and when he loads my savegame they disappear. so my savegame is screwed, which means no armor for me.

i deserved it for not wanting to play noob style tbh.

I repeat: If you really want to try everything, gox with a hex editor. It shouldn't take more than an hour.

It sounds like RPG is not your type of game. But since you bought the game, I suggest you to try it as a mage one last time, you may find it much better that way than as a rogue. Mages are major damage dealers in the game, a rogue or a warrior can't kill a crowd on his own, so these types are mostly useless and serve as a bait to keep crowds away from your mages. It's just not a balanced game when it comes to classes. So I'd say playing anything but a mage as your main character makes fighting boring. You can switch to other mages, of course, but it's not the same =).

As for confusing fighting, maybe download Prima Guide or some kind of manual? =) It's really not confusing, it sounds like you haven't got much experience with RPGs, that's all. And that's ok. In that case you probably won't be willing to switch to other characters much, and then you really should play as a mage. Good luck =)

ya, i've played some everquest and wow and diablo, thats about as far as my rpg experience goes.

my fights in dragon age are like this:

press space.
click stun attack on as many enemies as possible.
then attack one enemy with all guys.
repeat.
incase one of my guys has low health i give him a potion.

tho here i don't tuite understand the inventory system.
i pull the health potion in the quick list of my main character, so he can drink them.

but i also put them on the other characters, so they can drink them.

who has the potions? i don't get it. and sometimes i can't pull them into the quicklist, seems random...

i guess you're tho, its just not my type of game.

also very annoying is the camera movement.
when i switch characters in fights, my camera sweeps to him.
and when i want him to move somewhere, its kind of werid that i can't click everwhere.

also i don't get which skills are used automatically.

and the tactics screen, where i can tell my characters how to react.. i don't understand how that works at all. there are some example but they make no sense to me.. can't remember what the examples are but i can't seem to intuitively understand what reaction those settings are supposed to provoke in my characters.

Hmm, stun attack... I can only help describing fights with a mage. If you play a mage, there are two goods trees you can take first, one is cold elemental magic, another is named hell knows how, but it has forcefield and crushing prison spells. These are very good. Basically you can freeze your enemies and let your fighters deal with them. You can shatter a frozen enemy with crushing prison meanwhile, or you can put forcefield on a very strong enemy you can't deal with now, that will make him unable to move while you're dealing with other guys. I think it's much more exciting to play than a rogue, more diverse.

As for inventory, it's a one-for-all inventory! It's very comfortable, you don't need to think what is where. So what you need to do is to assign health poultices to a slot in the quickbar for each character. Let's say it's a last slot, you just drag it there from inventory, and it gets assigned. That's going to make health poultices quick to access.

Camera movement is something you have to get accustomed to =) It's ok, it just takes time.

Skills that are used automatically usually have that in their description, you can learn it from reading descriptions of various skills. But imho you should play as a mage to make it interesting first and just concentrate on one class to avoid confusion. Tinkering with other classes is not a good idea in your case yet. Just play as one class and let others act automatically how they're set up to act most of the time.

I think he was talking about combat tactics where you assign what the computer does automatically when you aren't in control of a character.

He doesn't sound like he can set that up quickly or is willing to spend time trying, so why should he do that? The game can be played ok without that, I'm sure, if you don't put its level up to Nightmare. And if you play as a mage =)

your tactics are sub par. the strongest magic in the game is the fireball, it's absolutely imbalanced. it has humongous radius and deals a shitton of damage, charges fast all while knocking down everyone. so if you have 2 mages, you can alternate fireballs without enemies ever getting up. what you do is send your main tank into the crowd, taunting them. when he's surrounded whack firebals right on his location (he's fireproof and stunproof of course). cleans the room in 2 seconds.

the rest is freezing bosses while you clean the minions and the game is pretty much done. if you really want to whore it you can break the game with potion making .

You do team damage on Nightmare.

So why would your tank be fire/stun proof?

I've not played as a mage but when the enemies use fireballs it fucks up everything on both sides.

That was tactics for the beginning of the game, and I can't imagine how you'd play it as a mage when crowds are attacking you and you have no stopping\freezing spells, or when you play alone in the Shade. And I don't think my tactics is sub-par, I played through the game on Nightmare and it worked well enough =). Although of course other solutions might exist. But I'm not sure that fireballs are as strong as you describe, they're weak except for the knockdown effect, I didn't count how many fireballs it would take to kill an enemy fighter or archer, but surely more than a few. And meanwhile somebody else will be killing you or your companions, while you're so busy. If memory serves me right, then it took about three fireballs for me to kill an enemy mage usually, and they're weaker than fighters. Or maybe more than three (I'm not sure because of not having used fireballs excessively), but surely not less. A fireball is not a quick solution. Freezing enemy mages and using crushing prison and stone fist to shatter them worked much quicker for taking them out.

It may be a question of game difficulty, too, enemy health and resistences have different values. I didn't compare fireballs and can't speak about them specifically, but I compared how massive spells like tempest or storm of century work on enemies. The difference is considerable. Maybe it's the same with fireballs. Of course I don't know what difficulty you played on, but for me it would take about three times of casting Inferno to kill a few archers at distance. Being exposed to the whole Inferno thing for its full duration took off only one third of their health. And meanwhile there were usually closer enemies that needed attention, otherwise your companions would die and you'd be facing the crowd alone. So I really can't see how you could fireball your way through the game that easily, fireball is not strong enough and its radius is too small to use it as an ultimate spell. =\

as I said you use field/prison on elites and kill off the minions with fballs. your companions will not die because your main tank is attracting all the crowd while your mages pepper them from safe distance. your second tank guards the mages.

Enemies aren't stupid, they forget about your tank when you've dealt enough damage and rush to you. And forcefielded elites come to their senses quicker than you've killed off everybody. =)

they will not rush you because they will get continually knocked down by your fireballs if you play it right. if some manage to break off your second tank and mages should finish him easily. this is not the only tactic of course, it only works later in the game. for the good part it's all about freeze spells.

At least you got further than I did in Sacred 2, the opening sequence had such bad voice acting/acting that I had to turn it off.
