as far as weapon balance is concerned, id has been very cooperative when it comes to taking feedback from the community. sure they're not as fast as you'd like them to be, but they do listen. obviously you're in the minority when it comes to opinions about weapon balance, because if there was enough complaining from people like you (which you do very well obviously) they'd change it. i however feel like the weapon balance is fine for the most part, the only thing i'd do is lower the sg dmg.

matchmaking mode has proved to be okay. sure it's not perfect, but for noobs that don't want to play someone 500x's better than them, it serves a purpose, and that's the majority it's supposed to cater too.

and last, i don't know where you got the information that you're going to have to pay for competition features. you seem pretty confident about that statement. at the moment, it's being tested on private servers, but anyone with a brain would be able to figure out that in the future they're going to have "pro" duel servers just like the have "pro" tdm servers.

q3 was a great game that had great features. quakelive is a totally different game in the way it's presented, it's supposed to be different. i love how you're throwing out the "fanboy" insult because it's obvious that YOU are the one having trouble leaving q3 behind and moving on to what will be the duel game of the future. if you don't like it, don't play. simple as that.

amen brother. some people don't realize what we have now. it's not like QL is an easy task. the whole web-integration is hard and extremely well done so far.

Weapon balance is better in QL. Easy to find servers and players even 4 in morning. I'd be lucky to find that in the afternoon in Q3. Matchmaking system and accesibility of the game makes worth actually start playing for newcomers.

zoomfov changes the look of the FOV in comparison to normal FOV. Sounds like they fixed it so it's the same.

they actually changed stermy's sens (and everyone's who uses +zoom a lot) two weeks before qcon. if i were him i'd be pissed off :)

yes, this also applies for everyone constantly on +zoom but i'd say this is a minority compared to people using it as intended.

they changed how the sens calculation for +zoom is done meaning it will be less sensitive now.

If he's not using accel then it's just a simple re-calculation and adding it to his +zoom bind.

he uses fov 103 and sens 4.65 and +zoom a lot. now his zoomed-in-sens is different.
to get his old zoomed-in-sens back he would have to change his "normal" sens which would mess everything up even more. or did you mean something completely different?

Until this command gives you possibility to turn on auto screenshots it shall not contain demo word in its name. I think this was named like that before.

Bad thing here is that they put single values for each combination of settings instead of using bit mask. That's no problem when we have 2 different settings in one cvar, but when they add 3rd this will be not 4 values but 9.

It is a bitmask at the moment - first bit toggles demo (1), second bit toggles screenshot (2), add them together to toggle both (3).

I can give my explanations for changes:

- 7-7-7 LG: lg being currently 7-6-5 makes rail very overpowered in mid range fights, where lg should really dominate. Imo its now just too easy to escape with rail and get the last second damage without having a risk of being taken down (midrange dps outputs: lg dps 100*60%=60dps, rail dps 80).

- lesser sg: its way too easy to use and get huge amount of damage, in situations where you can peek around a corner its soo overpowered and even in midrange, where its almost impossible to miss with it, it makes like 40dmg/hit = +50dps, which equals with ~40% lg

- slower rockets: imo rockets should be a prediction weapon and it should be possible to dodge rockets if they arent placed correctly. With current speed you can get splash damage hits with every rocket you shoot, though your prediction would be terrible. After one semi-good hit you can land easily like 3 more, it also fucks up enemys aim and makes this weapon veeery overpowered imo.

- railgun max ammo 5: would definetely reduce the current overuse of railgun. It would also make rail a weapon which isnt efficient to get if you dont know how to use it properly (+40% accuracy). In addition to those things it would also make locking a map very much harder..

- lg should be 6-6-6, right now it already feels too strong in close range, nearly like it was in q3 (which is quite annoying), its perfect in mid range but for far range 5 is too low when chasing someone.

- yeah sg should get a bit weaker, but not too much as well, 100dmg and a bit wider spread, but not much.

- started to like the rockets even tho i hated them at first, so nope, keep as is =p

- 5 is probably not enough, should try 7 or 8 or smth like that imho. (5 was tested in q4 afair? and then decided that they were too few)

And SG is the biggest no-skill weapon out there, under no circumstances should it be able to deal that much damage :E

Close range sg should still do a lot dmg imho, was never a big problem in q3 either as it was quite risky going into a fight with it and would very seldom pay off, i agree its too easy in ql tho and should be changed a bit, but not too much :P

Well, in Q3 the SG would randomly fire totally to the side and miss every shot :P

i hope you didn't just suggest to use smth random to balance a weapon! :P

imo it should be made more like a handcannon, that bullets would spread even more than they did in q3, but only horizontically, in addition it should have bigger kickback.

The rest I don't agree, at least not yet. I would like to see how LG works with 6-6-6 though. Don't mind the current one that much. All I know is that you can use a lot of weapons to kill now and I will quit this game as well if they ever make LG like it was in Q3CPMA.

i agree on slower (q3) rockets. I still dont know why they changed it in ql. In q4 they just looked slow and so everyone wanted faster rockets to make it more like q3. In q3 the rockets were perfectly as they are. I cant remember of much whine

Think they still spawn randomly between 0:30 and 1:00 but on maps with double powerups, both will spawn at the exact same (random) time. Guess this prevents being totally screwed out of a map just because of lucky powerup times.

In Q4 it was 0030-0100

In QL I've never once seen it spawn before 0030 or later than 0100. Not in TDM, not in CTF and to be honest I can't recall seeing it happen in FFA either.

Take a SS of it spawning at 0025.

If it does, then it's bugged since I've literally never played a single round of any mode where any PU has spawned prior to 0030.

Actually horizontal bar is already in. It's just not mentioned yet because we're doing some hud work to improve upon it.

cg_newWeaponBar 3 makes it horizontal.

Yeah, its currently missing graphics that alter the way the bar looks, hence why it was not a mentioned feature.

why shit about everything, its not like it takes a year for these things, some of them are really important, competition-related, and they are implemented pretty fast lately.

Yeah, great fucking first two updates which simply caused my game to get massive FPS drops for no reason and crash when doing a vid_restart or simply returning to the browser...

Thats why it's called beta. It's frustrating I know. But people really seem to forget that these kind of things do happen while making something advanced as a Quake game in a browser.

Quit with this BETA crap, it's publicly available and id even considered the "Open BETA" the final release.

Seriously, there is no reason for me to suddenly get FPS drops, browser or no, when it worked fine for the entire existence of the game prior to the previous two patches.

Nor should the browser interface be causing servers to crash.

i never had problems with fps drops. tbh, probably 99,9% of people dont have this problem. so it doesnt really make it bad if someone somewhere has a strange bug. maybe the problem is with your pc. q3 1.32 wasnt really crap if 1/1000 managed to get an error msg in it.

the mouse issues are fixed afaik, and that was something pretty common.

Technically I don't get any fps drops at all. I'm always solid 125. The issues I had were hitching that according to the lagometer were related to dropped packets (not frames).

Hmm, well since the patch I'm getting terrible drops (still in this one). I suspect it's punkbuster since demos are perfect and practice games don't seem to/rarely get it (I assume PB doesn't bother checking bot matches much/at all).

If there's anything I can do to get this sorted I'd be happy to do it since it's literally unbearable getting lower FPS than 60fps for no reason at all.

I think this is more common in Europe and elsewhere than here in NA. I've only had a server crash on me once or twice.

I'm I the only one who experience fps drop with in_mouse -1? It's the same with in_mouse 2 but not in_mouse 1 with 1 it's stone solid all the time and when I switch to window mode with -1 and 2 I get solid fps but not in full screen and I havent had this problem before.

I don't remember when it accrue because have have been off for like 20+days only watched forums and then these 2 updates came and I have experienced it:( And I must have -1 to play!

how about the possibility to view as spectators when players use zoom? quake4 had this option, so it's not like it never been done

Zoom was a restricted feature in Q4 only available on certain weapons, so there was a defined state of when a player was zoomed in.

In QL you can alter your fov or zoomfov at anytime, and often players do not even use +zoom while zooming (they as you know instead just alter their current cg_fov value).

Something might be possible, but its not as ideal or simple as it was in Q4.
