Would like to watch players play on the maps they feel most confident about instead of playing the maps that they are slightly less unconfident on.

yea it was a shame that the most important cpm map got constantly dropped, depriving us of the best matches possible (whether you like the map or not, fact is most cpm'rs have generally played that map 4/5x more than any other duel map, a lot of duelers playing that map exclusively)

that's not to knock fox, I think he is good enough to beat the best even on that map if he invested enough time into practicing it

cpm3a is by far one of the more interesting maps to spectate (as well as play). It really is a shame because I was hoping to see what Fox could do on the map with his superior aim.

About the last dreamhack :

fox plays q3 since 262623 years, he is also one of the most talented quake player ever. He's kinda all around player. He plays duel/tdm, played some CA before etc... He is one of the top vq3 players. Ok.
Also, even though vq3 and cpm are different, good players switching from one to another, with decent amount of practice, can for sure make pretty good results in tournaments. There is still a lot of similarities between this 2 gameplay. Fox is a real pro player, when players like pod1, LuGia, etc are just amateur. They still play a lot of CPM, they are still good players, but compared to someone like fox, they are not consistent, they still lack experience and 'pro' practice. And if you look closer at the dreamhack results, you can still see than these players didn't get completly rapped by fox, even with less years of quake practice.
Also, real top CPM players are Vo0, rat, dziku and maybe hal_9000 etc... These players didn't show up for whatever reason. I'm almost sure that if they showed up, fox would have had hard times going to top3-5.

About Vo0 playing vq3 :

He still manage to place top8 at the GameGune. He still manage to play close matches against players like k1llsen or even Jibo. He still manage to beat players like draven etc... And keep in mind that he didn't really like vq3, he only played for competition. Also, there is more top players @ vq3 than in cpm, because there wasn't any ESWC/CPL for CPM, and these top players play, for the most part, since 25252 years :).
And you can't even imagine how frustrating it is for a player like Vo0 to adapt to something slower. That means that he has to slightly slower his game style... It's almost like asking cypher to play CS...

Hal's mouse control is interesting. It's very robotic and he's a demon on cpm22. However, he still has a long way to go in getting to that "awesome" status.

Also I think what makes Vo0 so great in CPM is his CPM movement, rockets, and rail and his incredible knowledge of the game. He's strategically one of the best players on cpm3a and cpm1a, in my opinion.

Even though he hates cpm22, I would argue that Vo0 is also superior player on that map as well. His rail as well as his movement speed both help him greatly on this map.

I think CPM is better. I might also play it just because I like it more or because it fits me more. This is my opininon, I don't scream that out on every forum.
I might think CPM is superior to vq3. Then again, vq3 is superior to CPM in terms of prize money (stupid example, but still). So this is pointless battle.

If CPMers beat all VQ3rs, would that mean CPM > VQ3? I don't really think it would and I don't think you would either. Your point that Fox beat a couple CPM players that just so happened to attend Dreamhack as empirical proof that CPM is some how inferior to VQ3 is a moot point.

Technically speak, exactly how is VQ3's design superior to CPM? It's definitely far less thought out, obviously, because LG is such a dominate weapon. The armor system is less sophisticated and pretty much leads to brain dead armor control (being able to pick up all armors that you come across). The weapon balance is for troglodytes with bad connections. Playing on LAN or low ping or with CPMA's superior netcode makes VQ3 play all hitscan. Since Zero4, who has use rockets in VQ3 as an aggressive weapon successfully? The game is borked and the only reason why it's still playable is that players have adapated to play the balancing issues. Best players in the world = those with the best hitscans (LGs/RGs).

Technically speaking, I would say VQ3 is inferior because it is simply a gameplay that has been adapted to over time. Whereas CPM has been adjusted and perfected over time to match the advances in 1) player knowledge, 2) hardware/software technology, 3) better overall latencies for all players.

I absolutely agree... but people act like VQ3 players are inherently better. They are not. They just have played a 'historically' more serious mod.

These vq3 players play a game where money is on the line. CPM rarely has any tournaments and everyone plays (for the most part) for fun. It's the difference between someone how plays a game in their spare time and someone who spends 40 hours a week playing a video game.

If you really want to analyze this, you'd ask these top end vq3 players how many hours a week (on average) they've played these games versus how many hours a week cpm players play. You'd probably see that CPM players don't take the game half as seriously as vq3 players take vq3.

For an example of what a hardcore vq3 player looks like: look at yourself. Taking everything WAYYYY too seriously.
