Note to ESR users: This trailer is intended for gamers who are new to Quake or have never tried it. It is by no means a frag movie. This trailer is my effort to help bring in more outside players to give Quake Live a try. The more players the more sponsers, the more sponsers the more tournaments etc etc. :D

Very well done. This will be my first reference for the uninitiated :)
Also, I wonder if it is possible to add 'thickness' to the shards that are two dimensional polygons like those coming off the exploding logo so they do not briefly disappear when they spin. That purely 'artificial 3D' effect was the only distraction from the otherwise good graphical presentation.

First of all, great vid. The production quality was high and it got me excited to play QL (even though I already do).

Having said that, I'm not quite sure the trailer is going to have its intended effect of bringing in new players who have never played Quake before. I mean, try to view the gameplay footage in the trailer as if you were coming from Halo or COD or simple web games and had never played Quake before. Seriously, go back and try watching the trailer from that perspective. Now your average person is going to have one of two reactions--either their interest is going to be piqued, or they'll be turned off by all the "noise" (frantic, nonsensical gameplay to the untrained eye). If the person falls into the first category, then that's great, the trailer has won somebody over and they will promptly install QL. But the possible negative side effect is that they load up QL for the first time and realize that it is nothing like what they saw in the trailer. Now if they are a challenged, motivated individual then they will strive towards mastering the game, but if they aren't, then they will quickly lose interest because the actual game won't have matched their expectations of the game that were built up in the trailer.

Doesn't this sort of apply to any form of advertisement? The point is not to present a 'balanced view' its to get as many people as possible to interested in trying it. Also, I tried thinking about the gameplay clips from a newbie pov I don't see any 'hectic stuff', I see elegance of unobstructed by 'artificial reality' movement. Even someone whos never played a game can understand someone dodging a rocket and going for something.

Quake 3 has Q3MME which significantly improves visual quality, most noticeably by adding motion blur ;)

he could still capture with cl_avidemo at 100 or more fps and do the motionblur by himself :E

yeah, that's probably because he didn't use too many fps...

Some of it was really nice, some of it looked cool but didn't quite fit with the Quake Live theme/style.

Some of it just looked bad and a bit cheap (The ending) but on the whole it was pretty good.

Did you see any of his Q4 videos? If you haven't seen vitality yet, do so. Preferably download the 720p version.
Even if you don't like q4, you will love that movie. His bloodshed movies are superb as well, but vitality is cream of the crop imho.

All the videocopilot tutorials meshed together with so very little actual content. The game scenes were jittery and washed out. Making it look shiny doesn't make it a good video.

using Andrew Kramer's sure target preset and evolution package is not what I'd call copy and paste. It's pretty obvious killaton followed many of the tutorials but it's even more obvious that he them made them all his own and put them together to make a very well done production. It's understandable that you can't see that while you're blinded by jealous rage.

things I don't like:
-the soundtrack, pumpin' adrenaline trailers these days all the way, bad, bad days -peacefull orchestra ftw (especially combined with crazy action gives delicate, contradictory feelin's)
-the fact that you repeat yourself -you say twice the game is free, because target audience have memories losses, stupidity has nothin to do with n00bism, anywayz -watch most quake champ interviews, for revelation

I can't help but think of how funny it is that this same exact video could of been made for quake3 years ago. It's nothing new. Just now that the devs had the brilliant idea of implementing ads and focusing more on the platform to deliver the game. They're using a game we like to build a bigger product and just using whatevers left of q3 to whore it out. I wish you guys would give it up with the sponsors/competitive tourny pandering shit already. There were plenty of opportunities over the years for eSports/pro-gaming to develop into something substantial while riding an economic bubble but even then it couldn't take off for whateve reasons (wrong approaches/general lack of interest from the public, it goes on and on). Just come back to reality until we get the ship back on course and come to terms with the fact that the scene has burst and the way things are looking it's going to be a long time before anyone invests money into the $$blackhole$$ that was the progaming/esports circuit.

I'd like to see a QL version of something like forZe's trailer meets Vikings trailer. A combination of first and 3rd person, different weapons, Quad runs. You know, showcase a bit more of what the game has to offer.
