pc component prices are supposed to go down not up?? i have been looking to get a new setup for a few months now, and seems like i will have to pay more as i have not rushed into buying things :\

Well in september 08 you could buy a q6600 for around 120 all in from Aria. that's why I was raving about it.
I was building quakecore pc's for 270, with everything minus the graphics card.

But they've realised that becaue it was such a good deal they've whacked the prices up.

Secondly, the i7 platform is dependant ddr3 ram and X58 so despite the cheapest i7 being about twice as fast as a q6600 on multi thread apps, its still so expensive the old models have retained their pricing and if anything they've exploited that.

ocuk has 4850's for £110 (cheapest anywhere i think - asus models) and fairly cheap 4870s too (£140) -- maybe its now "had" instead of "has" but i bought my shit a week ago at those prices
