It was alright when I played the demo that they ran at Quakecon 2 years ago, but the wait killed the anticipation for me. =/

Yeah I play it, it's good in small doses... to be honest, the most fun I have usually is attempting to do the really hard sections on expert and failing over and over again, you really learn who your friends are. For example, sean (lobster) is more than willing to set you on fire to live longer.

it's awesome, been a long time coming really. i mean how many zombie mods and crappy attempts have there been by third party people? finally valve actually take initiative!

They took no initiative whatsoever, they saw a long overdue and obvious market and bought a bunch of people to do it.

almost 0% initiative, they just modded their HL2 engine further than 3rd party modders can, and used other mods ideas then they used a TINY bit of initiative by changing the gameplay

Actually Turtle Rock Studios came up with the idea, so if anyone took initiative, it was them since they developed the game. Valve just acquired them earlier this year.

it lacks of projectile weapons beside grenades but it's fun anyway

What lag? Maybe I just have a higher spec rig than most people but it's smooth as silk on E8500/HD4850.

I bought my copy from amazon.co.uk, the preorder price was £20 (=$30)... well worth waiting an extra few days as the game isn't worth $50.

lag as connection problems ; got some huge freezing lags (like 10 sec long freezes), but that was on the demo and I didn't really know if I was on solid dedicated or poor listen servers so maybe it doesn't occur anymore on good servers on the retail patched version
gonna wait a while anyway, a little time will lower the price, polish the engine and the gameplay, and maybe add some nicely playable 3rd party content

edit : actually the lags arn't lags but seems to be problems with multithreading with multicore cpu stuff ; can be desactivated in the options

Left 4 Dead comes off to me as Valve's attempt to make quick buck with it's name. I paid 40euros for the orange box that included dozens of hours of quality content. 45 euros or whatever they're asking is waaayyy overpriced for this polished copy-paste zombie grind. I think they should've packed it with ep3 and throw in the portal expansion pack and sell that whole package with that price.

I think the price tag is reasonable. I've played roughly 20 hours since I bought it and I've only completed two of the campaign maps + lots of vs. Most of the time I'm playing with my close mates and other times just randoms online. Of course I realise it's not everyones cuppa but I'm very happy with it.

40 Euros for Orange Box??? Wow, games are really cheap over here then. If you convert the price I paid, it's about 14 Euros. GTA 4 PC is 500 Rs. which is about 8 Euros now.

Tbh I very rarely pay that much from a game. My gameshopping is all about bargains. Not that I think 40 euros is partically unfair with all the work sunk in, but I just usually happen to get more value for my money by buying older games in discount.

i dont know any sites but you could try registering at EA India and using the direct download option for their games. i'm not too sure about other companies.

i think the low prices are to combat piracy which is highly prevalent in India. you can find games straight off torrents burned on DVDs and sold on the streets. legit games used to be extremely expensive here in the old days. i remember paying around 40 Euros (when converted ofc) for the first Tomb Raider (way back then) so most people would just buy the pirated copies. the past 2 years though... have been quite different. a lot of game developers and publishers entered the Indian market officially and games are real cheap now. I guess it's because they're not imported anymore.

Yeah, it's also kinda weird that they pre-load the whole dang game for you. What if I never buy it? What then? There's this wasted space of an entire game.

I bought it off amazon because I could get it much cheaper and seeing as the demo had pre-loaded everything I decided to just enter my key on the "activate a steam product" page, then it fucking downloaded the entire game! So I don't even know if the demo actually contains everything or not, anyone bought on steam who could say?

I have to agree with Liam: It's (only) fun in small doses.
You burn out rather fast thanks to the constant chaos around you, The finale of each campaign is basically a ten-minute adrenaline rush until you die or win, and I am pretty much exhausted when I have played a full movie.
I seriously had to lie down for a few minutes to calm down after the Death Toll finale on expert, it was fun while it lasted but when I watched the credits rolling I realized how tense and stressed I was.

Provided you have a friendly bunch of people playing and everyone is enjoying themselves, it's excellent. Otherwise, probably not.
Getting a good Versus match going is, of course, twice as hard because of that.

in the developer commentary in the game they say they worked 3 years on l4d. and this source engine is the newest in a valve game title. so we paid for this obviously.

its a really cool fun game, im addicted at this time. have so much fun. yeah buy it when the price falls.

a warning to german steam buyers: you get the cut version (no heads lying around, no gibs, corpses dissapear).
order from a shop a international version (you can switch to german language if necessary) or the two other german language versions (swiss/austrian) so you get a uncut version.
buy it on amazon uk with a creditcard, then its cheaper.

As far as I know, It's not like that for everyone ordering through steam though, probably they didn't recognise your IP as german for some reason.
