This isn't a jab at America or Americans (well, maybe it is abit) It's more of a question for those that visit this site about the state of their news.

A friend of mine just returned from NJ and he was telling myself and our mates that few people knew about the cyclone in Burma, is this true? To clarifiy, he said that not one person he met since it occured knew about it and he only learned of it by checking news sites.

I find that very hard to believe, that the people he met did not know about it, or for that matter the recent election drama in Zimbabwe. Is this true, are some people in America really that disconnected from the rest of the world?

In Australia you don't even need to watch foreign correspondance programs to learn of things of a heated politcal or disasterous nature, they are just reported on.

I've only been to the United States once in my life and I was far to young to contemplate such matters but as an adult I find it rather scary that people aren't even interested in world affairs. I don't believe that you must be interested, thats your choice. I believe that people should at least be made aware of things, so that they can at least have a choice to be informed, rather than not.

/end rant. I'm hungover and bored, flame or agree away.
