I have both. The Lachesis is awful, the Death Adder very good. Lachesis has a bizarre shape with buttons where you'd want to hold it and feels unstable when you move it. It also loses track easily when you move it quickly.

Easy choice, Deathadder.

I recently switched to the IME 3.0 and i use about 60cm per 360 in cod4 and it doesnt skip. using it at 500Hz instead of default 125Hz.

No really it wouldn't work very well for like say 80cm/360 in a quicker game like UT or maybe 120cm/360 in a slower game like cod.

well for cod 4 to shoot at people you usually have to aim down the gun's iron sights. when you do this it lowers your fov/sensitivity by a big amount, not sure exactly how much but it makes my sensitivity alot lower.

so using 60-70cm for 360 for running around is pretty low for me because it gets even lower when i aim my gun.

using 120cm per 360 would be really stupid for cod 4 but i wouldn't be surprised if someone did so.

Actually i just measured my sensitivity in CoD4 and its ~74 cm/360 give or take 2-3cm (human error).
And ~116cm/360 while aiming down iron sights, give or take 2-3 cm (human error)

Yeah sorry, I forget about that when I compare it to my past experiences in counterstrike with a big mousepad and cm/360 > 1 meter.

edit: Since I don't play the game I just have my initial adjustments based on judgment in the first 20 minutes playing and my COD4 unzoomed sens was about a pad and a half on my 45cm pad.

I have 4000dpi , usb 1000Hz, mouse-acell... of in registry.
fov 90- on long distance, 100 - on normal distance.

Sens 90cm / 360deg.

why do you use 4000 DPI?

forst month i test it because i want to find optional settings for me, a read a lot of topics where they write that is good to low down DPI to 400 or 800 but maximal 1600( but in some write that is 400 enought for all) And i feel some differences across the settings.
After the month i have tested up to 2k of DPI, because i thought that more i not good. I make 250DPI steps. And i test one DPI setting for 20 hours playing. Every time when i get up DPI i feel that tracking is better.
Then i was playing for next month with 2k DPI. But then i try the 4000DPI. And tracking is best in my opinion. About the mices that i was used, i can make each to get skip or somethik like this. But with Lachesis It's never happends.

My deathadder has been a good investment. only thing i hate is that the mouse feet wear out very very fast. Im on my second pair of hyperglides and im using a cloth pad (was using a hard pad before the hyperglides)

on my cloth pad it has worn down one of the corner mouse feet, i guess the heat and friction slowly wore it down ( i used about 70cm per 360 atm)

I also am bothered by the staircase effect that happens when you move the cursor in a diagonal line direction.

other then that its the best mouse ive used. I would use an MS IME 3.0 but i dont want to overclock my usb hub in fear of messing up my external HDs (they are pretty old)

There are drivers you can use that overclock only one USB port at a time. Hidusbf

The deathadder is a bit annoying because it glows, has a somewhat slippery upper coating, and the 1800cpi resolution is just way too high. MS IE3.0 is a better pick because of ergonomics, accuracy and size. It's cheaper too and looks better.

IMO the only thing 3.0 has over DA is shorter lift-off distance. The rest is just personal preference.

I get a lower lift off distance with my DA than my IME 3.0

i actually use the drivers with my DA, they work quite well
dpi's at 450(didnt have to mess much with my sens/accel in game), rate's at 1000hz, turned the glowing palm area/scroll wheel off
it was GOOD TO GO!

the deathadder and lachesis haev the same hardware... so they are technically the same mouse weith different shaped grips. the deathadder is much more comfortable, but the lachesis is a better mouse bc/ of aiming. i am X cal i player from back in the day and can say the shape is more uncomfortable , but does not limit you as much as the adder. the adder is still an exception mouse, but the lachesis is better shaped for performance rather than comfort; their is a difference.

Hell, you don't even have to move the Lachesis fast at all to make it skip, because massive firmware issues ensure that on many configurations it'll skip every few minutes regardless of speed of movement. I bought the Razer Lachesis, a friend of mine bought the Razer Lachesis, both mice suffered the same firmware issues: skipping every few minutes or simply not responding to input at all.

Razer's fix? Download new firmware, which in my case fried my mouse - and in my friend's case fixed absolutely nothing. Looking online hundreds, if not thousands, of other users had the same experience. It's also just not very accurate when moving the mouse quickly - which is very easily noticeable - even my G5 (also laser) suffers from this less than the Lachesis.


So yes, the Lachesis is a great mouse... if you like to throw money down the drain. Otherwise get the Deathadder.

Deathadder's not so hot either, unless you have midget fingers you'll be pressing the plastic where it has to flex to press the switch that registers a signal. For me that results in 15-20ms of delay, which is a lot when I'm at about 160ms average reaction time on a better mouse.

3G is just a marketing phrase from Razer, thank you for swallowing it hook, line and sinker. The only thing that is better on the DA compared to MX518 is the transission unit which is made for USB 2.0, sensor quality wise they can be considered the same generation only difference is light wavelength. Laser in general has major problems with surface compatability which causes quite a few problems.

When it comes to what is better for precission it comes down to what kind of aim you need and personal preferences. For tracking aim there isn't any mouse shape that will beat the DA shape for me. For me smaller mice are nice for precission shots, but I can't track shit with them. For other users it may be the opposite.

The DA can track at higher speeds, it's pretty easy to freak out an MX518. Possibly as a result of being USB2 the DA also doesn't suffer from large negative accel like the MX518.

There is less delay on the tracking on the DA compared to MX518, most likely because of USB 2.0 transmission unit. When it comes to making the mouse freak out, my experience is the opposite, on quite a few surfaces the DA will freak out while the MX518 tracks well at high speeds. Afaik the numbers from Sujoy's test most likely aren't valid anymore since they reduced the lift off distance for the DA (which means less light and leads to worse tracking).

My experience is also the opposite, my MX500 was less skip prone in actual gaming than the DA on QcK+ type pads. On an everglide titan neither would skip during gaming.

Strange as we have the same pad. I use max DPI on both and 500 Hz for the MX500, 1000 for the DA. What do you use?

500hz on DA, 500hz on MX500

Max cpi on the MX5x0 mice causes massive negative acceleration so I was using 400cpi on my MX500 and MX510. 1800cpi on the DA scaled to 300cpi (in software by using Aion's driver at a 1:6 ratio).

My DA would point towards the sky on a Qck+ and Qpad UC. But on an Eveglide fnatic it worked flawlessly.

Same here except it was the floor for my DA. The DA isn't that hard to make skip on smooth cloth pads so I'm not surprised you got that problem. However I think most people probably can make the Lachesis skip if they try to as it is laser. I could still make DA or MX500s skip on my titan but I'm pretty fast.

On the Lachesis you just gotta keep the dpi's low

I just want the mice to track better like the deathadder and mx 300 and 500 at 1000 hz. i think they can even be better than this. i use low sens and move my mouse very fast. hopefully technology will advance quick enough. And for hte lachesis, it is basically the same thing as teh deathadder technology wise. i dont see a difference and i have both.

well if you use low sens and move the mouse very fast you should stay a mile away from anything laser, that includes lachesis.

The mice are very different so I don't know what you're talking about DA is an optical mouse.

For low sensitivity purposes 400-800 cpi is sufficient.

You don't NEED it but it is better, the Lachesis feels incredibly smooth, it's just a pity it can't track when you move it quickly and the shape and buttons are retarded.

That really depends on people's hardware.

You might get a stable rate at 1000Hz but the next man might not get a steady and stable 1000Hz.

I for one dont get a stable 1000Hz, its way worse then my DA at 1000Hz. 500Hz on the other hand is very very stable on my PC.

The DA doesn't do 1000 totally stable on any PC I hear. While on this computer my IME3.0 gives between 997 and 1003 hz about 98% of the updates, and when it does dart out it's usually to something like ~960 or ~1030.

500 would be the most stable choice, but even when the polling rate drops to it's lowest it's still updating faster than 500hz so that's no good reason to avoid it.

That's all in theory with no practical carry over to in game, since we're talking about microsecond difference. But it makes perceivable sense on a bigger several millisecond scale when looking at frame rates.

For example most of people on CRT would prefer to have a wildly fluctuating framerate between 100 and 250 averaging 150 than a solid 75. But if it was between averaging 75 solidly or averaging 150 with drops to 40 or 50 most would prefer the solid 75.

I wrote a big post about this once, basically saying is the only thing you can feel in a framerate is the time between frames, and we perceive that length of time in a linear fashion, which is why 500hz is almost no different than 1000hz because yes it's 500hz more or twice as much but it's only 1ms less and it's hard to notice that when there are so many slower links in the chain.

That explains how a 100% increase in performance starts off incredibly better and then becomes not nearly as remarkable as you go up.

Try it out in FPS Compare http://www.tweakguides.com/files/FPSCompare_v05_beta.zip which is a pretty good program for getting people to shut up when they say they can't tell the difference between two framerates. I have a 170hz monitor and can keep about 4 times out of 5 accuracy until 150fps compared to 170fps

H hides the fps display and R randomizes which side shows which fps. If you can cheat and notice the difference from the tearing artifacts being asynchronized between the sides of the dividing line you can make it harder by pressing M to fill the whole screen with only one of the two framerates.

Lachesis has a horrible shape, there's no way you can get a good grip with it. Even if you do manage to get some sort of hold on it, you will end up accidentally clicking MOUSE1 a lot.

Also the report rate on this mouse fluctuates like crazy.

frequency fluctuation on 1000hz is very common and is nothing out of the ordinary. Considering u dont even need 1000hz, i suggest using 500hz, as that is a stable hz rate

Movement samples are buffered at least once in the mouse, and once by whatever input scheme you're using, so unstable polling rate isn't a big deal.

Well, it fluctuates a lot when I set it to 500 HZ too. I can achieve a 499-500 HZ stable report rate with my old MS 1.1
