Aerowalk is still preachers idea & concept, credit should go 100% to him, not Hubster.

i am sure if they will use this map credits will go to both of them, but without hubster they cant get the same map as hubq3areoq3 and i just posted contact to him ...

why would we need the authors' permission to play these maps in QL?

the maps are their intellectual property
if id were to use them without the mapper's permission the mapper could sue id

id also need the .map files to add advertisement banners and make any other necessary changes for the map to be Quake Live ready

Quake: Live?! Seems more like a complicated Quake patch with every minor detail that is released! Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to it and really hoping for it to be good and succeed but how is it going to refresh Quake if its the same maps? How will newbies be any more comfortable as players will have YEARS more experience than them?

what does this have to do with newbies "being comfortable"? Think there will prolly be enough “simple” maps, and the matchmaking/ranking system or what ever they develop will take care of everyone having fun. Imo casual players are the last ppl who should worry about anything.

I'm all for new maps, but thats not mutually exclusive with having proven maps(maps that haven been proven in various quakes and have passed the test of time) as well .

I'm just trying to say that many players (including top level) get bored of the same maps and this is not really doing anything to make it fresh again. OK disregard the noob point but if new maps aren't released then why not just release a patch and freeware Quake at this stage?

Anyway, good luck getting on to the authors - as I have said, I am really looking forward to it and really want it to work (especially as I myself am quite late to the competitive / more-than-casual side).

you didn't get it. the thing about quake live won't be new maps or content or graphics. it will be the match making system.

There is a small closed beta currently going on (has been since December). This beta has its own invite system that has nothing to do with the public signups/invites that I'm referring to.

As I see you just here SyncError, does id-software still listen to the input of the community about QL? And if so, where is the right place to do so (esreality preferred)? Thank you.

the q3wcp9 mapper "Scancode" made a LOT of CTF maps, including q3wcp14, q3wxs1, q3w5, q3w7, q3wcp18, and has already been contacted!

okay time for some updates:

- for 1on1 we got in contact with the mappers of ztn3tourney1 and most likely hub3aeroq3 very soon
- for CTF we got in contact with the q3w3/q3wcp9 mappers

the q3wcp1, q3wcp15 and cpm4 mappers still need to be tracked down, any help is welcome!!!

As far as I know the q3wcp15 creator remade his map for Q4 (Should be a thread about here somewhere in fact)

He released an early version of it, but by his own words it isn't nearly finished. He said he probably wouldn't resume work on it unless there was significant interest.

I have no desire to play a "new map" only to be playing against someone who has a 6 yr head start on it and has exhausted every single strat and tactic.

If anyone would like to play old map, do the quake community a favour and fucking stick to the version you're currently playing because your flawed and narrow minded way of thinking is only going to be its downfall.

It should be possible for any decent mapper to knock out a q3 type map in about 4-6 weeks and maybe less if id pay them a few dollars and promise them some credit.

No one cares if they use a recycled texture set.

I swear some of you lamers are scared to play anything new because your timefragging asses can only win a game after your billionth game of ZTN and won't even CONTEMPLATE the idea of playing a new map and convince yourself its crap before you give it a chance.

Quake deserves to die if at every opportunity people want to play the same old stuff.

so does Tennis, Soccer, and almost every other real sport deserve to die too? their courts/fields never change!

competitive CTF will die if the only CTF maps in Quake Live are gonna be lame space-themed (q3ctf4) or maps with no depth (q3ctf1)

at least let the people have tried and tested good maps to get things going, new maps take time to make and i'm looking forward to seeing them

I don't know how long it takes you to learn a new map, but for the rest of us with any skill, it takes a few days at most. No matter what you do, VQ3 will still always be about firing around corners and timing armors.

If someone can beat you on an old map, they're still going to beat you on a new map. This will not change anything.

Think it's a great idea including some of the better old maps. Sure, they've probably been done to death on the competitive scene, but if you pull your heads out of your selfish asses for a second and realise, THIS GAME ISN'T AIMED ENTIRELY TOWARDS YOU.

Infact, I dare say id will view QL as a major disappointment if the only players playing it are the same people who've been playing Q3 for the last 8 years.

Even some of the players who HAVE been playing Q3 for a while have probably seen nothing outside of the stock id maps (the people still playing on servers with older point releases)

If QL takes off the way I suspect id want it to, it won't be long before the mappers come crawling out of the woodwork to supply new ones. We've been playing the same maps for almost a decade, is another couple of months REALLY so bad ?

couldn't agree more. MAJOR disappointment if we see the existing Q3 maps just remade and becoming the main maps played. Ideally no remakes at all, and just new good maps. Obviously you have those you find change a very difficult concept.

ne_duel and pukka3tourney2 would be nice to see in the mix. I've never seen p3t2 in action but ne_duel seems like it would be a decent map.

i managed to contact the hub3aeroq3, cpm4 and q3wcp15 mappers, and they are all very positive about this idea

we are almost done now...

q3wcp1 is proving to be difficult to track down but it is one of the best CTF maps so it's my next target

i could use some input on some other maps, since i'm not sure if they're worth pursuing... remember only the best of the best community maps should get included with quake live

OSPDM5/OSPDM6 should be included. They are proven maps that are played in competition. ospdm15rc3 (It's made by Teddy the guy who made ospdm5) should be included too for the same reason as above, it's a good map that works and the more TDM maps there are the better. We NEED TDM maps.

q3wcp22 is pretty good and while it can be defense heavy sometimes it's not really all that bad. And hey, surely we can edit maps slightly so that they work? we could move the railgun to somewhere else? :)

The way I look at it is, what maps do leagues/cups use (rather than this best of the best subjectivity!). You want players to get all the maps used by default.

Give all the maps a lick of paint too!

I think they are choosing the maps so carefully because they want QL download size to be small enough. that's why you cant put maps like ospdm15rc or whatever in it :-/ they werent soo good.

and the risk of a big list is that there might not be enough time to include them all, and some of the really good maps could be dropped in favour of lesser ones that way :)

Rather they drop maps like q3dm0-1-2-3-4 etc :/

They can get rid of a lot of the models, such as bones/orbb etc. I think most people seem to use sarge/visor/bitterman/slash/xaero/mynx for team model and keel/tankjr/sarge for enemy. There are lots of sounds which aren't needed too (ambient ones)

If they retexture all the maps too they can cut down on the amount of textures the game needs.

they already did texture trimming for quake 3's release to allow it to fit on one CD, honestly i don't know how much further they can go without making the maps too bland, they look kinda samey as it stands

ospdm6 is better balanced map, smth like prodm6. while osp5 is clearly separated and forces teams to position-war.. :P

I emailed teddy (for OSPDM5) yesterday night after a little google on him, no idea if he got it since the planetquake site I found of him seemed like an old site.

I e-mailed him about fixing ospdm15rc3 (LG/RG spawn is broken in since v1.44 of CPMA) and he got it.

Well at the moment he's on holiday for a month so that could be too late I guess (and a bit of a disaster :()

I think a more logical goal would be to include a base setup of maps in the exec and use http to autodownload other maps to be played.

I don't see how stripping a few megs of sounds and textures is going to help on download sizes
