from all UT2004 movies I've seen so far I like this the most. It sort of feels "natural", not only because it has ingame sound, but also as it seems that there wasn't too much time-scaling used in this movie in order to sync it with the music. Besides the frags are really good, all of them, imo. Makes me wanna play UT(2004) a bit again ;)

considering they were from a single player I thought they were on par with many of the best ut2k4 movies...

you can't really compare frags in quake and ut2k4, simply because it's so easy to make "impressive" frags in quake while it's so hard in ut2k4.

Go watch the Morph movie then, better frags in there (also shorter, but anyway)

I've now downloaded like ten movies of unreal tournament and even if i enjoyed playing the game i gotta say it's not spectator friendly at all

and btw showgun 1 + crosshair would be way better also...

the problem is if the demo was recorded with showgun 0 you cant switch back to showgun 1 for the movie :/

I'm still amazed by that lack of functionality :P Is it really that hard to fix? I don't mean for you, but those making the game or mods :)

it's been tried to be fixed many times tbh. and it would require waaaaaayyyy to much coding etc to get it working properly..

luckily RypeL (guy behind RypeLCam) gave it a go.

basically what it does now is making the weapon as an overlay gfx on the demo, because of this, the game doesn't change where the shots come from, so guns like shaft needs to have the gun centered to "hide" the shaft coming from the middle bottom of the screen.

the problem is the game doesn't register in demos what gun is held and when to play the fire animation.

RypeL figured out that the demo registers what ammonition type is being fired, so every time some sort of ammonition fires he makes the overlay gfx do an fire animation. but it's kinda problematic, as e.g. biorifle uses ammo when charging sec fire up.

so all guns only have one animation atm because there's no way to see what firemode is being used.

he's made it look quite okay though, but it's not 100% perfect, can't be done really :(

this is one of two things I hope epic fixes for demos in ut3... along with making it possible to get infinite fps in demos just like in q3.

apart from that then the ut2k4 demos work quite well... like demos recorded in a old ut2k4 version will play fine in a newer version and other way around.

Ah, I see the problem. Strange way of doing it :/ Hope it's fixed for UT3 as well. I don't play UT games much, but it's still interesting seeing demos and movies from it.

and even when playing with showgun on, it doesn't go into the demo. read my comment above for more details on it.

now there's nice frags and ut has interesting gameplay & weapons but still UT movies allways look jerky :P

For me it's split about 50/50 for elements I like from the Unreal franchise and from the Quake games, I only recently decided to play UT and UT2004 because UT3 would be coming soon and Quake 4 was not interesting to me at all, wsw and vq3 were even more fun.

i really do hate UT, and guess what else? i love telling people i hate UT, i feel i have the right of doing so, seeing as i hate UT, and i've always hated UT, i even tried playing some 2v2 UT, and it was really as boring as i thought UT would be. I hate UT.

Thought this was a well put together movie.

What you have to remember is, regardless of how skillful or not the game may ultimately be, or how skillful the competitors have been, or how long an "esports" scene has been going, the following 2 things are true:

1. It's more difficult to aim in UT (I don't mean UTers have better aim than Quakers or vice-versa, I mean it's simply harder to land the same % of lightning shots as it is rail shots).
2. It's much harder to get spawn frags (in UT each jump is as fast as the jump before it, you don't accelerate progressively, so the guy can get away just as well as you can chase him and moving backwards is easier... plus bigger maps, spawncode out of line of sight, etc).

Therefore.. parts of the movie are impressive in ways people might not appreciate.

If all anyone ever played was PainKiller, and got brought up on a diet of PK movies... and then saw a Q4 movie, they might see it as more boring (who knows?)

I really want and wanted to like UT. Had my times of ffa fun with it also, but i cannot relate to the movement at all.

It really bothers me that virtually every game developer seems to neglect the fact that strafejumping exist and is a fantastic feel of movement.

HL2 SP had a bit of quake strafe feel. It was excellent.
