PC starting to act really wierd lately, while just idling with only msn, irc and winamp running my CPU jumps up to 25-80% of its capacity, just mad laggy. I've scanned with AVG and found no virus what so ever, could it be that i havent defragmated my hard drive in a long time?

Really annoying, and i dont want to reinstall windows over it. Grateful for any help on this matter. I run with Windows XP btw and these are my PC specs:

Well it just switches as i close processes, if i have winamp runnings its that, if i have firefox running its that and so on..

Just backup your files (including maps-game content)or create a 2nd partition, drag them onto there.
Then re-install windows. it'll take no more than a few hours to get all your own programs on there, updates and put the old files back on.

Seriously it's the best solution.

True, I wanna solve this so it doesnt come back at a later time. Just tried to do the dxdiag tests and they were all successfull. The PC is just laggy as hell when i run winamp or any other program for that matter. It shouldnt be this high, it wasnt a week ago. I did do a system check last night on C: , i havent defragged in a long time and was thinking about doing it soon, could this perhaps be the problem?

when does the lagging appear? when you switch songs? maybe you have a script in winamp sending to mirc which sends like 10000000 cmds a sec when you change song? just a thought =). i used to have a script that did output to a .cfg file that i could execute in q3... i configured that wrong and it took 99% of my cpu :D

Nah, its some kind of virus of some sort. I find the files when I run hitman pro, but it doesnt seem to go away eventho I do that. I've got advice of running virus scan while in "fels�kert l�ge med n�tverk", found the files but didnt work either =/ just came back once i booted up normally. gaygaygay, i've tried like every antivirus flick out there

Yeah true, i should probably do that.. but this is bound to come back anyway, i just dunno what to do. I've been using anti virus programs and all, and now when i scan i cant find any virus at all..

Does your mouse move choppy even when starting a program like notepad? Does it take longer to start up windows?

Cause that's what I had. I tried scanning for virusses, system check, defragged the harddisk. Hell even checked if the fans and cables inside my pc were inserted correctly. Nothing worked.
I had to resort to formatting my harddisk, and it's working fine for over a month now (if not, better).

thats what i have atm. it just started last week, dunno why...
for example when i have opera & foobar running my mouse moves really choppy. sometimes it even freezes and i cant see the curser moving anymore. then i have to reboot to be able to see it again. sux :(

Hmm so maybe I should just format then? I've found files with anti virus program, but it doesnt seem to be able to remove it.

no i mean all the drivers, i had the same pb with my pc, i reinstalled every drivers and it worked fine by the next.
Tbh i think ur gfx driver arent working fine or there is a uncompatibility between ur motherboard and and ur hdd, iam thiking about, nforce4 and diamond10 for ex)
