compLexity have just announced they have rented a house in Dallas, Texas for their Counter-Strike squad.

"This move also signals a new commitment to gaming excellence by our storied squad. 2007 looks to be a very exciting year and our commitment to winning has never been greater. With a new version of CS to learn and a new five to learn it with, we feel this move is the best way to be prepared for the busy Summer LAN season. Our work ethic will make this living situation a virtual bootcamp, and we hope success will follow.

It is our goal to create coverage content (ie- movies, photo albums and videos) for the coL Community and work with our corporate partners from the new compLexity House. Stay tuned as 2007 looks to be a very exciting year! "

The house consists of:
5 Bedrooms
4 Bathrooms
Large Kitchen
Games Room
3 car Garage

You don't need to win every game to gain positive exposure for sponsors. There are other ways and I think they did a good job.

The problem with Chrome is it was simply selling a low end product and advertising it in a market that generally demands the best hardware and has easy access to finding out what is the best bang for their buck. The product was never able to compete with mid-high end nvidia or ATi cards.

So no matter how well the girls promoted the product, it was never somethign I would have purchased.

Everyone knows that Nvidia and Ati made much better cards, but the good thing about the chrome card -- it was a good value for the price. Not everyone can spend $500+ on a new gfx card from nvidia/ati, so it's a nice option to have, because it did run Quake4 OK.

Well I think you're being a little generous towards Chrome there and a bit harsh towards Nvidia and Ati :/

You don't need to spend anywhere near 500 dollars to mirror or exceed the performance that any of the chrome cards offer.

In fact something like an Nvidia 6600/GT is priced around it's Chrome counter-part and has out performced all of the chrome cards and offers shader support that S3/Chrome have not even began to incorporate into their hardware and it's priced at around the same price.

So it will be interesting to see where Chrome go from here.
They will either have to slash their prices like AMD are doing to compete with Intel core or go back to the drawing board.

It also seems strange that they pulled the plug on your house?
they got loads of good exposure.

Its allot of money to have tied up in an asset for not so liquid teams and sponsors with marketing budgets.

Rent is just a cost sponsors can claim off tax or the same with a team.

I know there's plenty of nice houses in america, I spend quite a bit of time there. But nearly all the suburbs have so many of these shit houses, who could only belong to someone who hasn't seen much of real stone or true thatchwork roof. It just screams of the fakeness and artificialness I see so much in so many places in america today(fake trees, styrofoam rocks, mechanical fish, astroturf, low fat eggs without cholesterol, inflatable christmas decorations, pancake mix, marble painting). Everything is made in china and pre-packaged , and it's used simply for its convenience. It doesn't look strange to many because that's how many of them have always had things. It's sad, an imitation of the real, when the real is just around the corner and free :(.

1� Im a Quake player (Q3 VQ3 mainly, but I also enjoy QW and CPM)

2� I hate CS based games.

3� You don't need to play 24/7, or be inside the house 24/7, or stay always with your team or people that resides that house 24/7. YOU CAN GO OUT ALSO AND GO WHEREVER THE FUCK YOU WANT. With the difference that you don't go to fulltime works or go to hschool/uni,etc, instead, in the time you are doing that, they are having some fun playing LAN at the game THEY like to play more. How do you know, they don't know anything else? With a bit of talent and dedication you can be a great gamer and still be a "normal" person.

This is very far from "famous-life-of-xy-celebrity"-on-vh1/mtv-style-house. I doubt this is more than 5k a month.
In London it might be 50 (though I'd rather say 10, and yes I am aware, that London's rents are amongst the highest in the world).

in certain places in america such as texas a house like this can be gotten for $1-2k a month easily, probably on the lower end of that scale. it's also probably not in dallas, more like the suburbs of dallas. 5k is rent in new york city for a closet, not dallas.

the company i work for atm as an intern has also rented an own appartment for their international interns (5 overall). rent seems to be damn expensive over here... about $3000 overall for this one.
