First mouse with the Avago ADNS-3090, which is basically the public DA 3.5G sensor, I know of.

I think it has the same sensor as the 518, and therefore prediction.

From my perspective the ec2 is amazing, it has the lowest lift-off distance of any mouse I've used (g9x was similar) and it never skips or experiences any other problems when I'm playing with a 29cm/360 sens.

The prediction definitely doesn't cause a problem for me, it's just so minor and insignificant I simply don't notice it. If you like the shape and want low lift-off, then it's a great mouse.

Unfortunately many ECs still suffer form the wheel bug. If that happens you can get a replacement from Zowie ofc but that takes time...

And yes its the same sensor as MX518 but with a different lense to achieve the lower LOD of 1,5mm. AFAIK due to the new lense they had to change the CPI settings from the standard 400/800/1600 to 500/1000/2000.

But I've written all that before. Meh.

The Zowie EC1/2 uses an Avago ADNS-3060, while the Mx518 uses a ADNS-3080 and 3080E revision.


As bullveyr said, this is the first mouse with the ADNS-3090.
Compared to the 3060 and 3080, this optical sensor will hold the highest max malfunction/perfect control rate and allow the end user to enable and disable prediction/correction if needed.

Prior to this, the only LED based sensor able to enable and disable this was the DA 3G (S3668), but only with a flash.

Finally, people like me might be able to retire the Intellimouse lol

Cool thanks. Kind of reminds me of the Mionix NAOS mouse with those slots for your fingers on the side, although slightly smaller all around. Dimensions seems pretty similar to the g9x just from the photo.

You can disable prediction aka Angle Snaping on the 3090. If its any better than the DA 3.5, or any other mouse for that matter, remains to be seen.

It has a 32kb onboard memory so I'd wager it works like the Xai*. Meaning the Spawn just has a software to upload all the settings to the mouse and from there you don't need it anymore.

True. You'd also only need the software once if you're not comfortable with the default settings out of the box. Will be the case I guess, because I bet they'll ship it set to 1000hz and many prefer 500hz and angle snapping on which many prefer to be off.

So for me it might go like this:

install software
set polling rate to 500
disable angle snapping
get rid of software

Open the task manager, shut down absolutely everything else. Don't touch anything for a few seconds and look at the cpu usage, if it's like 0-2% you can go on with the test.

Then move your mouse around really fast and for some time, and you'll see the cpu usage.

yeah when I do nothing it goes up to two percent, but when I move the mouse in circles it goes up to eight percent.

The 60 IPS are the official specs of the Avago ADNS-3090 which are based on a "standard surface kit".
Doesn't mean that much, the official specs of the sensor from a MX518 or Zowie EC are also only 40 IPS and we all know that they don't have problems with much higher speeds.

So i have recieved my CM Spawn. My first impressions.

PROS

-Nice sensor, good tracking, no jitter on QCK

-no prediction (when turning it off as far as i can tell)

-no accel (i think. I use accel ingame)

-nice grip, it isnt slippery at all

-its light

-decent LOD, maybe 2 CD's, could be better but could be worse.

CONS

-the cable. Feels like it weights more then the mouse and is also kinda stiff. They should really have used a braided cable for this mouse, especially since its so light.

-the bulge where you are supposed to have your ring finger. It weights down the right side of the mouse when i lift it resulting in odd mouse movement. I used an ambidextrous mouse (wmo) before this one so i guess its a thing i have to get used to.

What dpi settings have you tried it at? Really interested in this mouse, surprisingly. Only thing that kinda turns me off is the shape, wish it was symmetrical. But it does look like something I could get used to.

i have tried it at 800 and 1800 dpi with polling rate 500 and 1000. No problems so far. I have also done a firmware update, but didnt notice any difference, still works fine :)

Yep, the only real gripe is the LOD so far. Tracking is good. No jitter, no acceleration. Turning prediction on / off actually works....etc.

It's lighter than the EC2. My guess would be that 86gr for the Spawn (without cable) is correct. The EC2 is 97gr. You'll feel the difference instantly. Lighter than WMO...uhm, hard to tell. Feels about even, but don't take that seriously.

It's not off balance if you grip it the way it's meant to be gripped(tm) - lol. When I lift the mouse between thumb and my little finger I can't feel anything off balance.

* Maybe CM can improve the LOD with a future update idk.

I'm not bothered too much about the LOD. Yes, the EC2 does better in that regard but I've been using the MX518 before that too (and the LOD of this one is even higher). I'm playing with a real sens of 29cm/360° no accel.

I'll decide if the Spawn will replace my EC2 in the next couple of days/weeks depending on how much I get to play.

Edit: FYI, according to the config file of the software the firmware version is 1.08 (108). You can update the firmware via the software no problem. I guess it checks for updated firmware versions automatically, but I'm not sure.

For anyone that has it:

It's a claw grip mouse. There is no way to palm it as it is too short for that.

Even if I knew what that picture is supposed to tell me *g*, I would have to open up the Spawn. That would mean I'd have to rip off the mouse feet and ruin them in the process as I believe the screws are under them. No thx. But maybe others who are bothered more by the (not so good) LOD will do that.

I have old Xai which has Steelseries IME 3.0 Teflon feet which works fine (2 at front 2 at back). Just balanced mouse that's all they need.

The higher the DPI, the smaller the movements the sensor can detect. It's not EXACTLY the same as sensitivity.

Aren't you just agreeing with me there? Saying more than 400dpi is useless? The higher the dpi, the more the "shakyness" of my hands will affect me since the mouse will register tiny movements that it otherwise wouldn't at a lower dpi. Now I never said there was a huge difference between 400 and 800 in practice. It's theory and probably a bit (lot) of placebo.

But why not use 400dpi when you can? Especially seeing how the mx518 performs much better at 400 than 800+ dpi :c

Actually I'm considering switching the unflexible cable of the Spawn with say, the one on my EC2 or so. To try this I need spare mouse feet for the Spawn though.

If you take feet off carefully you can reuse them many times tbh.

Replacing cable will be problem for EC2 because it has a triangle screw which cannot be remove easily. I couldn't find screwdriver for it. If you have Kinzu or Salmosa it will be easy to replace.

I've tried emailing CM last week, no response. There's never any operator online for their "live" support bs and their forum seems to be next to useless (I didn't see a single thread about the mouse). You'd think all those reviews could've at least done something useful (cause their review wasn't) and provided a date (even if not exact) when you could expect to see it in shops.

For anyone in the US and still interested in this mouse, I finally got a response to my email inquiry. In the email they say first week of March, so a little sooner than what "Gina" told me. Fucking women. :p

They should have made the right side more traditional IMHO tho.

When Razer makes the Copperhead again (hello ambidextrious) with a proper sensor then I will be happy about a new mouse. Seems the Spawn has a right-handed shape that doesn't quite jive with everyone.

Copperhead sensor is nice but shape sucks cant hold it properly.
2nd they wont make them anymore because it has been replaced with Lachesis. (Twin f**king eye)

I haven't had problems with the CH sensor, but I know the limits of that sensor and this makes me come to the simple assumption/stating the fact that it just sucks.

Some people have problems with jittering CHs, mine is working fine in that aspect.

The shape is okay though, especially after modding it (hi removing sidebuttons) and grinding off the rubber a bit so that it has a nice rounded touch.

My CH has unfortunately a problem with its scroll so that I never considered changing it to any other mouse. Nowadays I use the DB, so I should say in favor of the DB which is very similar.. and better (weight etc.).

I also have no problem with My CH sensor. It gives problem only if some dust gets in sensor. My problem is I cant hold it good long period of time.
I have removed side buttons too and cut the grip off and attached some tape but I still cant hold it well. I might need to use rubber grips I think so I can hold it like Xai.
If you have picture of your CH then can you plz show me your mod.

For me the shape is great if you claw the mouse and place your thumb over the rubber side rail for grip/control. The sensor actually has been known to have a pretty high failure rate as well as jitters. I had one that worked for about 2 years before it finally gave out. Razer sent a replacement and that one jittered badly. They sent a replacement for that after much complaining on my part and that one jittered also right from the start. So yes you could get lucky with one that works but I'd say theres a good chance you won't find one that does. And like the guy above, it has it's limits. Removal of side button, expanding the base so it's slightly wider and it would be near perfect. The arch of the mouse itself is what I consider genuinely ideal, along with it's overall size and ambidextriousness.

I try as much as I can but I cant make my Deathadder or Mx518 malfunction. As far as I have seen this one has better sensor than that.

Not every one here has the Spawn though, only two of us, one being me :)

However, I cannot hit the malfunction speed of the Avago ADNS 3090 with my settings @ 1800 DPI. I won't recommend this mouse to anyone though for one simple reason: the shape. It's unique so everyone buying the Spawn should know that this is an experiment. You either like it or you don't. Oh and the LOD will bother some, but I mentioned that already.

So get it toop and test it.

play around 5-10 min and do flick circle movements with a little lifting of the mouse (BUT FAST) so that you do 360 circles (like you trying to catch a shawdow behind you, turning around)

you will see that sometimes the sensor skips to ground or sky at certain angles not always but i would say like 2/30 times

its the same problem what ALL razer mice with 3g or 3,5g got

this will not happend when you using accel or mid sensitivity (10-30cm) because you dont have to move the mouse very much with flick circle movements

so for lots of people the sensor seems perfect but it isnt specially at very low sens

btw my spawn mouse is next to me and i love the shape absolutly with palm style because its short and very ergonomic fits equal like the steelseries ikari but alot shorter

in some way the style of aiming with that mouse reminds me a lot at the loved wingman gaming mouse from logitech except the right little ramp with the spawn logo

1) You cannot palm the mouse unless you have tiny tiny hands
2) First you say the mouse skips for low to mid sense players, now it's only low sense
3) Flick the mouse and lift it at the same time? No wonder your mouse skips...if it had a lower LOD it probably would register even less movement. The DA3G (not 3.5G!) has a malfunction speed of 4m/sec. I seriously doubt you hit that speed. However, if you flick and lift the mouse at the same time you cannot expect any sensor to track well. That's just silly.

nyshak you really annoy me with your black/white thinking but its always the fault of the explainer when the listener not getting it :)

so i have to repeat and explain it more detailed

1) im a wingman gaming mouse player in the past and yoU CAN palm the Spawnmouse very good same like you could do that with the Wingman mouse (got big hands middle finger top to wrist 20cm)
while you palm it you have the possibility to move the mouse inside your hand up and down even WITHOUT moving your hand or wrist BUT at same time the wrist is on your mousepad

2) i said that the mouse skips at 30-40+ cm so i would say its medium-low / low and very low sensitivity

already told you how to test the repeatable skipping to sky or ground not doing it again :)

3) maybe i shold mention the different styles of aiming that we dont talk next to each other

a) wrist on mousepad/arm and wrist not moving, tiny mouse movements inside your hand specially usefull for y-axis aim and detailed aim/ zoom situations
b) wrist on mousepad/arm not moving, moving with wrist left and right for flick shots
c) wrist off mousepad/arm moving for tracking aim

we have a fight situation i'm doing aim style (C) but reached the limit of my mousepad! the fight situation changed (while i'm at the limit of my mousepad)
so i dont aim anymore but i want to check whats going on behind me so i'm changing to aim style (B) lifting the mouse a little (0.5cm) and pull it (like you doing it with a ball mouse while the position of the arm is NOT MOVING) that i can look behind me and

the mouse tracks completly down to the ground or sky its repeatable not always but like i said sometimes (2/30)

this happends WITH nearly all razer mice (Diamandback abyssus and also that 3G Deathadder had several of 3Gs and 3,5GS 'not tested yet the black DA edition) and sadfully with the spawn mouse too :(

im not an engineer but i guess it has something to do with the LOD and angle of sensor light because i've tested the tape tip of some guys on a abyssus and it worked nearly flawless and it happends only 1/50 times

BUT THe funny thing about that explained bug is that it works flawless with no problems on other mice like MS 1.1A MS 3.0 or even Xai or G9x mouse! but they all have fucking negativ or positiv accel:(


btw i've noticed some very very little jitter problem with the spawn (updated firmware, doubt it is really working because you can update it again and again and again.. no version check or whatever)

with 800 dpi midd notch windows at slow diagonal movements speed check uploaded picture

no difference with angle snapping on or off

I don't have any jitter probs on my Puretrak Talent no. The firmware is 1.08. The mouse is recognized as "Spawn_108" by Windows and you can find the firmware version in the config file in the software folder. You can update/overwrite the firmware forever though, the software doesn't check if you have the latest firmware already.

Sry if I come across unfriendly but despite your efforts I have a hard time understanding what you're trying to tell me. Looks like you get some erratic behavior once you lift the mouse. Most likely this is due to the unfortunately high LOD of the Spawn (I tried contacting CM about this to ask if they could improve this with a future firmware update, but they won't answer me).

What I was critizing here was that you made it look like the Spawn would skip for mid to lowsense players when doing flick shots. However, you *only* have a problem when moving the mouse fast and lifting it at the same time, which again, tells me the sensor is still tracking *something* due to the high LOD.

eh... i had the same idea at first when my salmosa stopped tracking in the mid of me aiming/flicking but after a while (and some tweaks) i had to realize that what i was experiencing was a side effect of the high lod. i'm pretty sure nyshak is spot on and you are complaining about the same thing, high lod is what most/all razer mice have.

the point is... you may believe the sensor is failing while in reality it (poorly) tracks at a distance it shouldn't track at all, hence the erratic cursor movement.

no matter if 800/1800/3500 dpi midd notch windows 7 firmware 1.08 with talend pad and qck+
imo 800 dpi is still a little bit too much for detailed graphic work at windows when you have to set midd notch (because of 1-1 cursor movement)

maybe its because of that little jitter problem i dont know

I got it today. It has great sensor.
Only shape was a bit of problem so I try to palm it instead of finger grip or hold it at back it fits fine to my hand.
High LOD wont be problem for me.
Mouse feet are very sharp they find all bumps on my qck+ that prob will solve when they wear out.
Firmware update made few changes but only noticeable was they improved angle snapping which used to drift when you try to draw vertical lines.
I still cant find a way where to check firmware version?

thanks, high lod kills it for me. is there even a newer gen optical sensor that does not suffer from this? it's the main reason i'm sticking to laser for now.

not new gen optical no. the 3090 here actually is the latest from avago.

system > hardware and sound > devices

my mouse is listed as "Spawn_108", 108 being the firmware version. alternatively you can check in the software folder. the config file here contains the line "FWVersion=108"

and in FW folder 108 so I think its same firmware.
LOD is still high but doesnt bother me.

Only problem is to rest my pinky on right side. I might open it and rub it down to rest it well. Prob remove rubber also and make smoother.
Lets see how it goes. I will post pictures if anyone wants to see after mod.

P.S.

For anyone who likes wants to reduce LOD to 1mm of their Razer Salmosa with Zowie EC2 lens. They can do it. It fits perfectly under Salmosa PCB just need to cut little body to make lens fit in shell.

I dont know about Abyssus but I think they prob have same pcb.

Firmware made tracking bit worse. Here is an example.

It hasnt got great shape but its light weight so easy to use but now sensor is fucked up too so I would not recommend until they fix tracking.

I removed right side grip because it was hurting my pinky and changed the cord so It was nice to hold for my preference. But with sensor flaw its useless.

Edit: It doesnt do in 1800 or 3500 dpi mode. I use low sense which is 800. So those who are low sense players. This would be useless.

Holy cow, 800 is messed up atm. I use 1800 though.

If you want to update firmware again. Keep backup firmware in any case. OR never update again lol Its like Kinzu you cant go back :))

@1800 DPI its malfunction easily which I cant do in EC2!
If I try flick shots it just shakes at one spot. Too bad as 800 dpi is messed up and I dont like 1800 dpi that much.

I cant hit the malfunction speed @ 1800 DPI, however high that may be. If the mouse is no good for you don't try to make it work. Shelve it and be done with it (cant return it after you frankenmoused it).

I dont wish to return it. I just want them to fix 800 dpi thats all.
In 1800 I get 1 malfunction out of 5 - 6 flick shots. Which is ok.. but it will be good if they fix 800 as you already told them on their forums to fix it asap? :DD

you sure you're not having trouble with the LOD when doing flick shots? there was another guy in this thread who thought the sensor skipped, but it turned out he was lifting the mouse while still moving it very fast and then the high LOD fucked up his aim

and yeah that was me. i've given up on companies to fix stuff like this though. most of the time they'll just ignore you :/

Got this mouse yesterday and it's a lot smaller than i thought. I got big hands so I'm trying to get used to the claw/finger grip still.

The LOD was the first thing I noticed when playing....it's higher than what i'm used to on the mx518. So that will take some getting used to.

I'm a low sense/no accel player (40cm/360) and i haven't had any skipping problems.

One question though...to turn off accel, the box next to "OFF" should be red or..?

idiot question : about the high LOD, if one would put 2 CD pieces stack together between the mouse and their feets, how bad would it be for a fix -besides the increased weight- (supposing it would be done right and solid) ?

if done right it might get better - or worse. problem is we only know that the sensor still tracks for more than 3 CDs but we do not know how good the tracking is at that height. you might fix the LOD this way, you might srew up the tracking completely.

@ Rey: i hope you'll find that the LOD is not a big problem due to the low weight of the Spawn. it's so damn easy (fast) to lift that i can't be bothered with trying to fix this issue.

I don't have any issues. Plus, CM is looking into the problems with 800 DPI (testing BETA firmware atm according to the official support forum I think).
