In terms of reaction time, all else being equal, it should be about the same.

But the slower monitor may make the mouse feel more "floaty" because of the delay between your moving it and the response on the screen. I'd say that's gonna be pretty minimal at 10ms though.

Netcode will take care of the 10/20 ms ping for hitscan, but not of the added input lag.

The netcode doesn't make you see things sooner to react to them (like for instance a rocket coming your way) nor does it make your click that got to the server later override their click that got there sooner. In race situations, the guy with the lower ping will win, all else being equal. So that's really what I'm talking about with "reaction time".

Of course, you're always going to deal with the usual pitfalls of playing online, like the fact someone charging into the room you're in will see you before you see them regardless of ping.

If you're playing a shaft measuring contest on eyetoeye, I'd take the monitor over the ping.

i don't know the answer to most of your questions. i've used a 27" monitor for years. i tried playing with a smaller viewsize in quakelive when somebody warned me that it would cause problems to have such a large screen. there was no discernible difference in my results.

their argument was entirely logical, and claimed if things closer to the edge of the screen are closer to the periphery of the vision, then perception will be inhibited and therefore reaction speed will suffer. however, their premise is totally abstract and could be demonstrated as entirely false if tested empirically.

i think it was make-believe bullshit that "sounded good".

according to the abstract of this research, which i don't have time to thoroughly review, so reserve some appropriate skepticism:

For slowly moving targets, both dependent measures changed substantially with eccentricity: RT increased and perceived speed declined. For more rapidly moving targets, both dependent measures were unchanged by eccentricity.

so, imo, get the monitor you'll feel comfortable radiating at your face. i like my 27", and i can move it around depending on how i'm using it. it's really great for other non-actiony games (like underrail, which i'm playing now and really enjoying).
