1and1.co.uk have more than one server farm in the UK. Assuming one is near London, it makes sense for the other one to be further north. They might even have more than 2 locations. I dunno. It was a long time ago that I looked into it, but the wording on the site suggested more than one location. I think it was only a fiver a month, too.

not trying to shittalk your question or anything, but i'm on virgin media and I can get ~20ms to germany, are you sure a VPS in london wouldn't suffice? most companies provide test IP's so you can get an idea of what your ping will be like :>

I used to use 34sp.com at my last job for web hosting, they also offer dedicated boxes.

I know they are based in Manchester, not sure where their actual servers are however.

UK bad inet I think, you see UK players playing on uk server and pinging @40+ that's just rediculous, even if only on 1 MB..

The change to fibre optic lines is progressing very slowly here. The scrap value of copper fell, then so did the rate at which they upgraded the lines...funny how that works. But with Christmas approaching, more lines will be replaced. That scrap money usually pays for the Christmas party. The higher-ups don't care about the scrap money, because it's peanuts, and they'd only have to pay tax on it. By letting the funployees weigh in the copper, they can avoid paying the tax on it.
