Could have. But it depends a lot on each game's implementation.

Valve devs claim Linux is faster than Windows:

As a Quaker, you expect total delay between touching the mouse and seeing screen action of around 10 ms and it will feel amazing. That's pure hardware delay (mouse polling, rendering, sending to display).

I doubt you could even tell a difference between 10 and 15 ms in a blind test. So a few microseconds from using this or that OS won't make any difference.

Win 8.1 will be expensiver than Win 8, so it's a price increase.

luckily win7 will be supported for a while. i cant be bothered with 8 untill support for 7 drops :)

if it's a driver problem, valve is in the best position to push vendors to fix their linux drivers, so it's not a fundamental unsolvable problem...

could be nice for a media box setup, don't see any other use of it.
