USB soundcard and USB mouse? Well that might be a problem because of the shared bandwith. Have you tried diff USB ports? like maybe plug the soundcard in the front one and the mouse in the back one.
Did you overclock the USB?

usb hdd, usb soundcard and a mouse on usb too... what kalston said.

The problem seems to go away when unplugging the usb soundcard.
I guess I could use onboard but I need to use a usb soundcard for tournaments so I'd rather practice with it. I also don't want this problem popping up during tournaments when I have to use it so does anyone have a possible solution?
I have tried all sorts of port combinations including a totally separate 3.0 usb port and the problem persists.

don't use your mouse on a usb 3.0 port, if that is what you are doing, people have been reporting all kinds of problems especially when upping the usb hz.

solutions?
1) don't use a usb soundcard, that's just dumb and a problem waiting to happen.
2) buy a pci usb card and hope for the best :)

If you really want a soundcard (because your onboard is really bad/has issues) then get a PCI/PCIe one.
But make sure you really need one though. Onboard is usually fairly decent these days (sometimes very good actually).

I use an USB soundcard on my laptop and I don't encounter this problem but I hardly ever game on it though.

It can be your motherboard's fault too (since people are reporting unsteady hz on sandy bridge mobos among others)

Also, do you use XP like you said in that other thread? As much as I love it I'm not sure XP has proper support for recent motherboards such as yours, which may cause USB issues like what you are getting.

Sounds like some I/O issue between the memory and hdd.

having sort of the same issue. at random times q3/ql feels laggy when using mumble. actual ping/lag is fine and so are fps. i've stopped counting how many times i've jumped into lava etc because of this shit.

the only thing hooked up to my usb ports is a razer deathadder and a keyboard.

been playing around with the settings etc but the only thing that fixes it is not using mumble to begin with :< overlay is obv turned off already.

turn off mumble and see if that fixes it

Add another i5-3570k to the motherboard. That would definitely fix it.

What's your in_mouse? Try raw input (in_mouse 2), although I agree with most people that your problem is probably USB-related.
