I checked his profile, he lives in Scotland. In which case Nessy should probably idle #quake4all which if I am correct is a Sweden based CTF pick up channel, or #spontan.games which is a German based CTF/TDM/IFT/and Supremacy mod based pick up channel. Both channels speak English as the common language and all players are welcomed to play. Both channels are on Quakenet and they are a lot of fun.

Now if you don't mind playing with high ping and want to get a game in when its off hours in Europe, swing by to #truecarnage on Quakenet for the American pick up games. Youll find alot of Europeans will be in here when they can't get games in Europe, and Americans will join theirs when they can't get games in America; so it works out nicely :).

As far as maps go.. for TDM get the TMP map pack. TDM is more popular in Europe, and practically non existent in the US.

For CTF.. maps that come to mine are Spider Crossings, Mid the Gap, Death Before Dishonor, Ruiner (favorite in EU), Speed Trap, Jap Castles, Fate, Divided Crossings, Shinning Forces, and Courtyard Solution comes to mind. I am sure there are some more but these are a good start to practice.

tdm = better than nothing, sandstorm tmp2, over the edge tmp2
ctf = death before dishonour, ruiner, spider crossings, heartless, industrial evolution

other maps can be a bit flawed (q3 remakes particularly) or too small.

edit: as you are european, join #spontan.games #quake4all and #quake4.tdm on IRC quakenet. ctf and tdm pickups are dying out a bit, but there are usually a few games per day. glhf

What size of team should I practice (even though q4 is allegedly dead).

5v5s are the way to go for competitive play or 3v3s or what?

Oh, and are there FPS versions of all those maps diabz?

In Europe they play 5v5, and in the North America we play 4v4.

Btw you don't need to worry about the map names since you can autodownload all the ones you need off of the pickup servers. A selected captain picks a map on the server that they want to play.

I have 8 quake players in my clan, we are all new and i own a multiplay server, just wanted to know the map names i should add.

Also is there any 90fps gametype for ctf or tdm?

What maps would you suggest for what sizes of CTF games, since some maps (heartless) are pretty small.

Ruiner CTF, Death before Dishonor - works best with 5on5

Ive always played 5v5 and it was fine in 1.2 and 1.3 but with 1.4 the maps are considerably smaller and this places more influence on holding the middle map to intercept EFC. (as the FC's are faster due to the speed increase etc, u need to stop them at mid instead of the base now :/). I don't like the new patch tbh, but its not so bad if you understand how to adapt to the changes

its a horrible conversion from q3, many bugs, crazy textures, noboby play this map. the pk4 file is named l4ctf1_b1

It's named jl4ctf1_b1 or something like that. l4ctf1 is ruiner...

Oh yeah, l4ctf1 is that abomination he made a wile back... or that other abomination to be honest as ruiner is one aswell =P
