Nice if they switched the TDM and CTF too - particularly CTF. It'd be nice not to have to look at the scoreboard to know how many caps you've got, or to have sensible brightskins that you don't have to change each time you change team o_0

What Ive noticed is that people have hard time deleting the old battlemod folder before extracting the new files, that just might be the reason for some of the bugs.

Oh and I had that scoreboard bug the very first days of Quake 4, I dont think its XBM's fault...

Good choice for 1v1 tho, but I doubt Q4max will be that good in ctf or tdm any time soon.

For most of the people It's called boycott. They just want to kill out the 4on4 TDM this way. If Q4Max crew actually got their heads out of the toilets and co-operate with Xbattle. Then we can finally get a scene thats not so split and not so 1on1 orientated.

Wrong. Democracy is such a misused word. Democracy means that the people rule, the people decides everything. What you describe is some half assed version of democracy that is used in most of the western nations today, probably because the people are too lazy and dumb.

Don't think that people want to decide everything either. But everything that the people wants to decide, they should decide. Or else it isn't real democracy. But of course you could argue that the people do not know their own best and others should decide for them, like it is now. Switzerland is probably the only country that even tries to achieve real democracy, but hardly.

What the 1on1 people did in this case is very similar to the union movement. In order to get better conditions they got together and said "hey, we are not going to move another muscle before this is taken care of". Just like IRL when workers demanded better working conditions, and so on.

Maybe pro gamers needs a union? An organization that could for example 'boycott' the CPL if they did something unacceptable. Maybe some day...

yeah .. but i think its the wrong way to set 2 different mods for 2 different gametypes ....
this will result in players who only play tdm/ctf and those who play 1o1
so .. I think you should set q4max as default for all gemetypes
at this moment .. q4max has its priority at 1o1 .. but with this developerteam there will be teamsettings in the future releases.

I can't see ESWC kicking themselves by not using a mod which all the top players will want to be used in a 1vs1 competition especially considering how close to the Summer Event it will be. Choosing Q4 1vs1 when they can't match the prize purse was risky enough (Should have done team 1vs1like in 2004 or 2vs24vs4).

Great news when it comes to the players playing 1v1 cups and CPL.
But I would for sure vote for Q4max for TDM and CTF aswell because it's not like the teamoverlay in X-battle does much for clanwars atm.
It doesn't show where ppl are and therefor in cw's I would for sure ask my m8s on ventrilo where they are anyway.
When it comes down to MVD demos, removed rocketsmoke(trails) and stuff like that arQon has done stuff like that before in Quake3 so if it's possible to make it Quake4 he will for sure make it aswell as the X-battle team(yeah i know the rocket smoke is already gone in X-Battle).
And for serveradmins it would be much easier to use 1 mod instead of two when they want more then 1 gamestyle on their servers.
So really I don't see the point to use both mods atm.
IF one of them would be so EXTREMLY betther then the other one in the future(I doubt) it's not like we are forced to use the mod forever just because we choose to do so now.
So Q4max for tdm and ctf aswell is my vote and im playing Eurocup TDM atm.

Yeah, check this new unseen powerup I ran into on fleet the other day...

Couldn't pick it up of course, and the 25 health on the ledge above was gone. Unnacceptable to release a mod that alters item placement imho.

for the moment xbattle has an advantage over q4max in team based mode. Sure they will make also these features and more but don't you think xbattle will make too?

cpl are using q4max because the dev team is made up of experienced and reliable coders who have developed good competition mods for cpl in the past.......a better judge of which to use in the long run rather than what is "better" now only a few weeks after the sdk release. they're very unlikely to change their decision but who knows, it is the cpl after all :)

Check the demo's header with a hex editor :) You'll see the fs_game used for recording, and a lot of paks with full path (which also includes gamename) which should tell you which version is being used. (i.e CPL Winter max is C:/Program Files/id Software/Quake 4/q4max/pak070w.pk4 C:/Program Files/id Software/Quake 4/q4max/pak070.pk4)

No. In Q3, demos were [properly] integrated into the game, and the file extension changed with each successive point release. There was no confusion. It is true that mod releases caused demos to malfunction oftentimes, but I'd never seen an instance where a demo would actually refuse to run due to a different mod version. This seems like sloppy programming by the Q4Max team, by amateurs who are clearly in above their heads.
What Q4 should have had is a truly standardized demo format system that would work universally.

I personally think that it is still good to have the two mods here.
If one of the mods is actually dropping from developing, the other teams presure, to include pussypink features all the whiners are requesting in every single thread over and over again, will rise very much.

In arQons case he have to ignore 10 times more queries a day and if he is still reding the bullshit here - has to ignore 10 times more rants against his person (a day). Which is sick, because he does the 'job' mainly for you and not to satify himself. (Same for the XBM team)

This absolutely sucks for serveradmins. You now mean that we need one server for 1v1 using Q4MAX and one for TDM/CTF using X-Battle.
My clan, FOE, is renting a server from GameServers.Net and we can't afford another server.
Now you might say just switch mod when you need to, but that's impossible because I can't change the starting mod(no ssh access). This means that I have to mail gameservers support each time we have to change the mod... bullshit.

As for your edit: two mod teams working on the same improvements is destined to clash at some point. In the end they will not live side by side, and the big money tournaments have a big say in which mod is used for tournaments. Or would you rather see xx league using mod 1, yy league using mod 2, zz league using mod 2 with different settings, etc.?

Since Q4's release, which includes ALL practicing and ALL tournaments (every single game played) people have been using / getting used to the Q4 timer. Doesn't take much effort to become accustomed to it.

I *know* some people are used to the Q3 timer etc, but people forget this is A NEW GAME. Some people are just lazy - they do not want to have to learn stuff. It's the wrong attitude to expect to be able to pick a new game up, and be accustomed to it all instantly, it's natural to have to learn and master it.

As a compromise, I would say let the timer be adjustable in 1v1 (because only YOU see the timer), and keep it LOCKED for TDM (keep it as it is now). Problem solved.

It would actually be quite easy to support both timer types in tdm games. Simply have a variable that counts (counter) up to the timelimit. Then the clients simply have to add or substract that counter to their start timelimit. Of course there is stil the problem when somebody says "RA at 25". It might not be the same for both.

well perhaps arQon can be arrogant at times, but refusing to add another timer was decided cause it would be confusing for....TDM and CTF. It had NOTHING to do with being arrogant, but everything to do with doing THE RIGHT thing. Sure he could add a timer going up and make a lot of people happy (xbm's try is just funny as hell, adding a timer and giving a non-working solution that's been copy/pasted from esreality).

All xbm is doing is add lots of features, without any direction of creating a complete mod with the best gameplay possible. arQon knows what to do, that's why it wouldn't have been a bad thing if xbm's coders would become coding slaves

Actually I 'love' Germany, and I like Germans. I am (of course) going to Germany this summer and I am really looking forward to it. I am from Sweden and we look upon Germans as our brothers, almost. :)

But as other have pointed out this is only about the quite silly flood of Germans flaming ClanBase for this decision, mainly seen on IRC. I used to support X-battle also but now, after spending some time trying to look at the situation form all possible points of views, I have come to the conclusion that it would be for the best if Q4max got chosen by all major leagues. I think you all know that both mods are/will be good. There are/will be only small advantages and disadvantages, which can`t be the reason why one of those mods are better than the other. It`s just sad to see that clanbase changes the 1v1 mod only because of the CPL Players..
While Painkiller was the World Tour Game i did understand that pk++ was getting standard for all, because the whole community just was the CPL Players, but in Quake4 just 98% of all the gamers are not going to the CPL, so why choose q4max?

It is simpel to say:
"Money governs the q4 world" (and not the community..)

hahaha at these discussions.

In a few months, you'll all be playing q4max, so just give it up and make the switch. Q4max has renowed developers, is backed by the only professional league, has the support of professional players and has obviously a better marketing strategy (if you even could call this marketing). And this Eurocup thing isn't blackmail, it's how things happen. The world isn't fair :).

When I compare the features of the two, they just seem similar for now. But if I look at the new 0.10 xbattle and the upcoming q4max, Q4max will take the lead.

atfer using Q3max at CPL id rather not use anything else, even with battle in tdm feels like shit now.

Battle is still doing a good job , but i feel q4max is doing a great job.

funny thing is
people always refer to arQon sure he did OSP to Q3, and now his the king in Q4 moddin?
I mean sure he knows alot of things, BUT others can mod aswell sometimes even better...
I really feel sorry for XBM team for this...but they got a chance to prove the scene that they are better, OSP didnt came to Q3 1 week after....took awhile.
And who cares about the US stuff US>Europe
Guess the MAX team got better contact with Angel for etc. maybe thats why he took MAX for the mod in CPL.

well....lets raise the babylon tower again with US!

No, they q4max has item_armor_jacket and xbm has item_armor_jacket and item_armor_jacket_mp .But it should only be item_armor_jacket to work in both mods correctly.Its a typo in the readme because I used item_armor_jacket_mp in my map as i was testing some stuff.

So basicly it works as long as u use item_armor_jacket in a map.

You guys do understand that now the de facto leader,decision maker, etc of the Quake 4 community is arqon? If everyone is comfortable with this then fine, but i personally have heard quite a few negative things about his stubbornness. Right now, with XBM basically gone, the only person that maybe be able to keep him in check is Angel (his q4max team apparently has no say in decisions from comments i've read).

Do you think cpma was made in bubble with only arQon in it? I am going to go out on a limb and say it wasnt. I will instead point you to the list of the team that made cpma what it is. http://www.promode.org/team/

arQon is the face or voice of cpma and now Q4Max because he is noticed, partly because of how he says things, and partly because he is the lead programmer. That does not mean that there is no input into the mod by the general public, and most definitly by the team that is helping and contributing to the mod.

Stubborness, arrogance, wtf ever. I do not care. XBM hasnt shown that they have any kind of corner on being a mature and professional mod group with all the inflammatory shit they have spewed all over the place, and they havent taken up the chance to work for the better of the community any more then q4max has either. Both parties have been stubborn and thats fine also.

Keep arQon in check... rofl. What does arQ need to be kept in check from? Throwing malicious code into Q4Max that steals our CD keys?! OH NOs, turning Q4Max into cpma?! FFS who will save us?! He is obviously going to screw the game because there is no competition?! Look where this competition has gotten us so far. XBM pushing there early release on us because of the q4max beta leak. GG competition.

Yes I have no problem whatsoever with a single mod taking this game where it needs to go. Roll on the Q4Max true release and all will be well.
