You have copyright on your work pr. default. You dont need to do anything for it to be copyrighted. So yeah, there is "IP" on it.

one other thing, the final name wont have "ztn" in it. If you took time to open the map, you would of seen the real name.

the scale seems a little more correct than Zeicon's version, but it's still not perfect. there are spots that seem geometrically unfamiliar. it's also uglier than zericon's, at least at faux-picmip 5 settings. and there are too many pitch black unlit areas.

the scale, as far as I can tell, is excactly the same... although the hallways in mine a bit taller to compensate for the taller player model...

Clip all the stairs so you can strafe jump up them.

In the plasma/yellow armour room where the boxes of rocket and LG ammo are, you can go inside the windows and get outside of the map. You can see other areas of the map, and hide there. That needs fixed. I don’t think you can strafe jump up to the ledge there either, you have to jump off the stairs ledge to get up, so maybe lower it?

Maybe raise the roof a bit so you can rocket jump from the grenade launcher to the shotgun - you hit off the roof and fall unless you do a very small rocket jump over, or grenade jump which is not convenient.

Where the rocket is, you have a little indented bit, sometimes when you strafe jump over it you occasionally clip it, thus slowing yourself right down. The same can be said about the indent where the rail is. Little things like that, it’s best to be aware of them to make the map as good as possible.

I’ve not had a proper go at the map yet, just jumped around a little, so I may have missed a few things.

Obviously the textures and stuff will come later on, other than that it is looking pretty good, in my opinion better than Zeicons versions, assuming you sort out everything :D.

I support this: I noticed the same "bugs". And I'd like to add one more : there are a few of places where you get stuck if you move along the wall (i.e. touching the wall constantly). For example a wall near megahealth from both sides of it has tiny bumps that make player stop. This is very important to be able to move freely; especially if one moves backwards.

Also it's possible to stand on arc above a way leading from GL to RL. Considering Q4 is slower then Q3 the hide place is a good to camp.

Flows great! However, its missing the railgun...

I'll probably just ditch my version since I'm sick and tired of mapping. And I like this version. Although you have to clip stairs and stuff like that. I'm happy as long as I can play the map.

The rail was not on the spawn point for some reason.
Clip the stairs.
Stop being able to go out of the windows.
The grills at LG spawn and the railgun currently let projectiles go through them.
Make it playable in TDM and add the quad/move the ammo boxes so it is the same as ztn3dm1 for 2vs2 in that mode.

Re-texture to a more quake looking texture set (Like the strogg textures from dm4/7)

one more thing, the reason these textures wwere used is because we did alot of research on which textures render and create the best fps. One gameplay is completely perfected (hopefully in next release coming soom) final version will have new/better texture. I do have a question, how is the lighting for all of you? i used lighting that wouldnt affect the fps, allthough i didnt use single lighting cause single lighting is ugly. any comments on lighting and what u would like to see/noty see in upcoming release? Did you do the r_lightdetaillevel 1-9 thing or whatever? (Seemed fine on my PC with r_lightdetaillevel 9 no dark areas or such)

in the main room, the squares above the arch protrude a little too much. you can actually stand on top of them, i don't remember that being the case in q3, but maybe i'm wrong. in q3 you can land on the arch itself, but not the squares i don't believe. i noticed this when rocket jumping from the shards/mega area up to the red armor, i missed and landed on the protrusion. the super dark areas of lighting are still really irratating to my eye, gogo uniform lighting. also, you can see seams behind the mega and lg. rail still doesn't spawn as of beta8. as mentioned earlier in the upper ya room you can jump from ya -> to the stair rail -> to the ammo, but you can't jump from the top of the stairs directly to the ledge, like you can in q3. and if you're coming from lg into the ya room there is a certain simple way to strafe jump off of the stairs that go up to the ra room onto the ya, cooller does it a lot, that i can't perform in q4. maybe it's just a q4 engine quirk that can't be fixed though.

Lighting and Textures hopefully will be next release. I just want to make sure gameplay is perfect b4 i start on perfecting visuals.

yes. definitely better. some others things:

on the ra pirch there are two widths, the width of the arch, and a little indentation that is smaller. if you're on the ra ledge you can back into that accidentally or get pushed into it. that doesn't happen in the q3 version.

also, in the mega hallway, if you stay against the wall as you go toward the lower ya you run into a pillar. in the q3 version there seems to be an invisible brush that works like an unseen diagonal wall to gradually direct you around the pillar. so, say you're at the lg and you need to get to the teleporter quickly, if you horizontally rocket jumped off of the wall for speed, going down the hallway in q4 you'd hit the pillar, whereas in q3 the mesh would redirect you back to the center without losing momentum. this is true of almost every pillar on the orginal map btw, they all feel rounded.

Yeah I would flatten (or clip or something) all these 1unit wide (or whatever) trims in the hallway as they will make play a bit less smooth. Apart from that it seems a very good conversion.

Kush why dont you change it slightly?
Add something new to it. that way the map stands a really god chance of being used in tourneys.

dunno, but i havent seen your edge experiments on any server so i would be careful with such bold statements.

2 minor issues RE: ztnbeta9

- Weapon placements seem a bit low to the ground. Should be slightly higher.
- Problem with clipping near mh. ie: If you are running against the wall from the rl room to the mh, u get stopped just b4 the mh by the wall. doesn't happen in the orig.

I will check it out today when i get off work. I will definately do what needs to be done in the bottum hallway. Ill post a littlwe later when i have a chance to horse around with it. I do know the end pillars should be a problem, its the small pillars all over. Q4 physics stop u on little lips where q3 didnt. I will revise the lower hally and ra issues and post again. *quick update*

I was sent a video showing about 8 problems last night. These problems including wall posts being 1 unit clipping a character model and slowing down flow. These problems have been addressed and im about to release deckTourney1-beta, which will be hopefully the last beta. Lighting that was brought to my attention has been added, so alot of you that were concerned with lighting should be pretty happy with next release.

Also, tdm version of the map was started, but will not be completed until beta testing of the gameplay is completed due to the fact all changes would have to be addressed to both versions, and that would be double the work. I do promise you all both versions. Now that its prett much on the verge of being wrapped up, all information and help is greatly appreciated. Once again i do want to thank all of you for your help with the progress on this map. Although this map will be used in a tournament in february 2006, im really making this map for the community. I cant thank ztn enuff for creating the original. Truely a mapping genious.

Anything else that needs to be addressed b4 i start perfecting textures and detailed lighting, please contact me asap, as i want to add all fixed to the map b4 the end of today so i can release the latest and hopefully final beta by tonight.

All i can say is i will try, but the way the map is layed out, im not sure its possible to make the map any better, or more enjoyable to play, but i will definately try. The only think i have in mind would be making the map alil bigger so it would support more then 1v1, 2v2, hopefully accomodate 4v4. Thank you all

stairs leading from jumpad near LG to the room with PG are unjumpable... need to be fixed if possible.

Something what suxx a bit is , if i jump in the teleport (ya/rl) and use the beginning of the stairs on the other side of the teleporter as a small ramp i jump againt the wall very often. Same at the door from rg to mh. I wanna jump from rg to mh fast using the stairs as a ramp. The result is of course my landing in the wall D:

make the stars in the yellow armor jumpable from ammo, and the platform at top of the stairs seems very small.

and one more thing, the ammo in the yellow armor room is to low. make the platform higher so you need to strafe off the handrail. you can just jump up there to easily.

Also, Lighting is now done according to other lighting thread ( and personally i think it had better fps the other way). Please help me beta test this last version regarding gameplay so i can perfect texturing, and eye candy. Thank you all for your help. Map will be complete soon (I hope :>).

there are still 4 small squares on the walls of the main ra room that stick out too far. you shouldn't be able to stand on top of them.

ok, noone had pointed those out to me before, i completely see what you are talkin about, i just fixed them, but am waiting for any other feedback b4 i released Beta9c.

The latest version has some weird FPS issues. I get solid 63 fps on every other "FPS" map that uses dr4ch's light detail technique. On this one, with r_lightdetaillevel 9 my FPS was dropping constantly just running around on the map locally by myself... down to 30's in spots. I think you're right in that the FPS was better on the old version, but I think this should probably be fixed if possible. :)

Ok, I have several more issues:

1. Very important: the teleport exit point from lower level near RG is easily seen from a GL point! So, a pretty good player with RG will give no chance of escaping his opponent who is below him. This is called trapped! In Q3 version the exit point wasn't visible -- you have to jump straight up to see what is there.

2. Quite important: a fairly good player with RG standing on RL point sees a whole corridor from YA to LG (including MH itself)! It means that he's controlling the corridor. In Q3 version there were no such visibility.

3. In Q4 version I can't stand on the arc above a way leading from MH to teleport (just near/above YA).

4. I may be mistaken, but a strafejump from RA to SG is more difficult then from SG to RA.

The first two "bugs" could greatly affect a gameplay.

there is a difference here, but it's quite small. i don't know if it's the ceiling height of the hallway, or the height of the rl platform that is wrong. you *can* see lg from rl in q3 if you crouch, but just barely; it is slightly more visable in q4.

I'm just not very used to Q4 rocketjumps. I was able to rocketjump from armor shards but not from the floor. You did that -- you're a hero! :-)

as of right now my only suggestion is make this an fps map.

Ok, As of BETA9b, The only problems that i see are as follows,

1. Blocks in the main room (which were already fixed just waiting till next release).

2. The Rocket launcher spawn mesh. (It seems to of gotten buried, also been fixed).

3. Entrance from RG to MH (I have made the hallway taller, but still doesnt seem tall enough. I will continue workin on it untill u can make the jump from RG/GL to MH flawlessly). More to come on this problem in next release.

4. In YA/PL room, whwere the ammo sits some people say its too low and too easy to jump into to. What are your opinions? Should i move it back up? should i keep it where it is? what should i do withit?

5. Stairs from Jumppad leading from LG to YA/PL room. It seems as if these stairs are almost impossible to jump up. I have tried clipping them, but didnt seem to help any. This is one of my main concernes b4 the final release. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

6. For all of the people that asked me about the TDM version of the map, That is in the near future. Due to the way quake4 allows u to configure maps, i basically need the first version flawless b4 i add the TDM gameplay pickups so that i dont have to go back and re-edit the original map again to accomodate changes that have already been done.

7.Last but not least, I havent got around to texturing the map yet. Like i said in earlier posts, i wanted to perfect the gameplay b4 i started on texturing and eye candy. For players like myself, I run picmip'd and cant see the textures anyways, so gameplay is the most important to me, but i do understand people want a good lookin map, so final release will be fill;ed with eyecandy and textures.

Please help me beta test and finish this map. There will be a tournament using this map along with another 2 ( Supposedly pro-dm6 and Tourney4 that i DID NOT remake.) in the near future(Januaury/February). I will post details when they come my way. Once again i would like to take this time to thank every1 for your help. Map is very close to completion. Hopefully when i get home tonight, Ill try tio fix whats left and release Beta9c.

it seems low, but the q4 player seems 'taller' so it may be an optical illusion for all i know.

in q3 it's high enough that if you try to jump straight onto it you can miss if you mess up, or if you for some reason had the wrong com_maxfps setting. but you CAN just jump straight onto it, you don't have to use the hand rail. in your version it is trivial to jump on to.

maybe figure out the maximum jump height of a q4 player and make it just low enough that you can make it up at max height.

I don't follow you here. Assuming the TDM version is "add quad and remove ammo on quad spot", you should do the following:

- Add a quad with the key "filter_team dm" value "1". If you want the quad to be there in FFA as well, add the key "filter_dm" value "1" as well.
- Add the key "filter_tourney" value "1" to the entities you want to skip in tourney (the ammo packs).

Not sure if its mentioned before, but when u go trough the teleporter near the YA to the main spawn area, u cant continue jumping couse u crash against the top wall area. In quake 3 u can maintain your speed but u cant strafe down stairs properly in quake 4 it seems. Mayb u shoud make the wall a little higher so u can continue jumping after the teleportation?

Great work so far ,only am I the only one who gets kinda sick when playing because of strange lighting?

ok, I just got done running around ztn3tourney1 in q3 osp. Here are a few of my conclusions.

1. When coming from teleporter from YA, when u spawn thru and continue straffing, i hit my head everytime on the upcoming wall. There was not one time that i did not hit me head when continuing straffing. So a problem i have battling to fix, was even a problem in the original version. Ive made it so there is a way around it and u can still keep the flow through the map. So this problem is now corrected in Beta9c which will be released shortly.

2. Somone had brought up a comment of about being able to see the MH and LG from the RL. Well you CAN also see this in the q3 version. I tested myself. The only thing that was different was that the MH was pushed back a little further. This is something i have changed and it just about exactly replicates the q3 version.

3. The stairs from LG to YA/PL room. I noticed that you end up a little further up the stairs after the jumppad then you do in the remake. I also corrected this and tried my best to make the stairs as friendly as possible.

I will be releasing 9c very shortly with in mind this will be the final beta b4 i corrrect texturing and eye candy (HOPEFULLY). 9c will also accomodate the TDM quad and ammo movement. If there arent any more major bugs/errors, this will be the final beta regarding gameplay issues, so please get everything you have found to me asap so i can make sure it is fixed for the final version.

Once again, I thank all of you for your strong feedback and help completing this map.

The thing about the MH corridor (I think) was that you can see all the way done it from RL due to the increased corridor height (e.g. you can see the LG while standing up easily, not tested as loading up Q4 takes forever on my PC :D)

Make sure you can't see too far from GL to the MH either.

just an idea....stop remaking q3 maps? all this effort into making this one work and maybe you could have made an entirely new map for q4?

phrantic is a cpma remake, and its a brilliant map and by far one of the best duel maps out there atm.

Many Many Many hours of testing and editing has been done, and the map seems to flow just about the same if not better then the original ;) Everything that has been brought to my attention has been fixed. if we're being anal, at the shotgun ledge it's a little easier to see the right health bubble over on the gl platform. q4 you can walk to the edge of the ledge and see it clearly, q3 you can walk to the edge of the ledge and just barely see it before you fall. it's really minor. the two bubbles are also a little further apart, but that's even more anal.

there are also a few map edges that you can still get caught on. maybe you should just make another pass throught the level to see if you notice any thing you can get caught on that you shouldn't be able to. you rounded the most important ones, the only ones left that i can see effecting gameplay are: in the rail room at the two 3 shard ledges, if you stay against the wall as you go to the mega health you get caught on the wall edge.

and in the shard room that connects gl to rl, the ledge you can jump on has a second ledge you can land on, it's visually there in q3 but you can't stand on it.

You have many protruding edges to clip off (essentially, all of them except the few ones that are actually left as is in the original ztn)and you totally have to do portals (and proper lighting, etc) for obvious performance reasons. :)

The problem here, q4 engine and q3 engine react completely different in some aspects. a 1 unit brush will stop a player where in q3 a 1 unit brush wont affect the player. This causes many many lips that have to be changed. Lips that arent in a place where its vital to flow through the map, are really kind of a waste of my time to be honest. Now a lip thats gonna get you caught up when fighting may be something i would change.

Portals, texturing and lighting come after gameplay is perfected which i thought would be soon, but after these last few posts, doesnt look like its as soon as i thought.

Also like i stated b4, I changed the lighting to the fps way, and it seemed to drop fps on the map. Im going to completely redo lighting one the layout is perfected. You can be assure that this map will be beautiful once its final is released, but gameplay is what im mostly concerned about.

I'm not sure the FPS lights you did were working correctly as when I changed between r_lightdetaillevel 1-9 it didn't change (Or at least I didn't get full ambient like the other fps maps)

Non clipped edges ARE a gameplay concern since on this map, they generate a flurry of camp spots. But nevermind.

Well... _I_ don't have the problem. I'm playing at Athlon-64 3000+. 512 Mb RAM, GeForce 6600GT. I have lowered my resolution to 640x480 and quality to low, but enabled bumpmapping and shadows. This map runs fine. I'm getting constant 63 fps. Not all maps thatI've tried give me _constant_ 63 fps.

Man, what a rape. The textures are so ugly and boring...

28 to 43 FPS on ztnBETA9c, it sucks.

Enable "r_lightdetaillevel 9" to have 63 FPS everywhere or this map will never be used in French Cups.

Changes:
From all videos sent to me, emails ive recieved, and posts here with screenshots i have fixed. This includes EVERYTHING that ive seen in a screenshot, and everything else ive heard. And if i did miss one, please tell me where so i can fix it quickly.

Also, Lighting has been corrected. Portals have been added. Like i stated b4, i ran around ztn3tourney1 a few times in osp again. And everytime i came out of teleporter from YA i hit my head. There wasnt one time that i didnt, so i fixed the teleporter in this version to replica the q3 feel. I need feedback on fps now since lighting and portals have been added/fixed.

Please if you find anything else post it in reply to this post and ill fix it asap. I really believe the gameplay in this map is almost complete. Texturing and lighting will follow.

One more thing that hasnt been added yet is player locations. For example:
If playing TDM, your hud should tell you where your teamate is. This will be added in the next release(and hopefully final release regarding gameplay) so i can complete the looks of the map.

And I must add, the textures look really bad. I liked visuals _much_ more when there was light -- not the ugly ambient light. No matter what r_lightDetailLevel is set to, This map doesn’t impress me visually. I want to use my video card! :-) But I do understand that for some people it is the only way to get decent fps.

He hasn't done the texturing etc properly yet, he said he wants the map to play properly first.

Im not to sure where this is. But every time ive gone through the level clipping brushes and edges i usualy do every1 that i do see. I may have got it, i may have not.

I forgot to mention: I think you need to change loadscreens “ztnBETA9d.tga” to something more appeal. And map name “deck(ztn)Tourney1” is quite long. :-)

Sweet, beta9d fixed the FPS issues for me. Solid 63 FPS now where I was dropping to 30's before. However, you need to put the ambient light on detail level 9, not 3, like every other FPS map. So people don't have to use different r_lightdetaillevel for each map.

From all the posts from _unreal_ and the videos sent from anonomous, all these changes/fixes have been made. All of the other posts that had screenshots of problems have been fixed also. All posts that just had an idea/tip or anything that could help the map out, have also been added.

Problems Known:
I still havent got around to perfecting the stairs coming from the jumpad to the YA/PL room. That will be in the next(and hopefully final) beta release. I really want to start workin on textures/lighting and eye candy, but until this map is 100% gameplay, i will not. A few people have asked me not to release the map until it is perfect, and thats what i plan/intend on doing.

Please give this map a test run and help me complete it. It is very close to perfect gameplay. Without your guys help it wouldnt be anywhere near this far along. I really appreciate the work that you guys have put into beta testing the map. I will be waiting for comments and for the "ok" to start on the visual aspect of the map.

1. As I pointed out before exit point from teleporter to RA is visible from the GL point. Is it possible to frag one who just teleported without jumping up? Can somebody prove that?

2. Is it possible to “wallclimb” using HB to RA? I’m not able to do that even in Q3, so I can’t test this feature personally. But I know that this is possible -- Coller can do that. :-) Are there wall climbers who can test this?

Well, now when all movement bugs are mostly gone, I'd like to express my impressions about textures, lights and so on.

I’m tired of grey map themes, to tell the truth. In your map I’d really prefer to see more bright colors: orange (like in original map), green, blue -- anything, but not grey _again_. I don’t know much about lightning in Q4 but what I’d like to see is: The people who want a pretty map will get all your lights (as was in pre-9d version). People who want best performance should get only ambient lightning. Is it doable? And I want you to add much bumpmapping to the map -- people who don’t want it can always turn it off.

Again, great work. I hope some impressive matches will be fought on the highly accurate remake.

P.S. I've just downloaded 9e version and gave it a try. The movement now feels ultra smooth. :-) Great work, kuchdeck!

Can somebody prove that?” When I stand on GL point (or very nearly) holding a RG I can see where to my enemy is teleported -- so in just one sec I can shoot him. IIRC in Q3 I have to jump up to see the exit point. But I’m not 100% sure that this is a problem -- somebody else have to prove that.

1. Could you raise the Weapons/Armours from the ground slightly? at the moment I feel they are slightly too close
2. In the RL/YA room you can get onto the roof trims
3. In the HB/YA room you can't run along the wall smoothly and jump onto quad like in Q3 instead of get "bumped" by the sticking out thing.

re: #2, specifically, you should be able to stand on the roof trimming that's on the green health bubble side. you can stand on it there in q3. but you shouldn't be able to stand on the trim above the rl.

also, go to the rl, stand directly against one side of the arch behind it, and try to rocket jump straight up. you hit your head on the protrusion. there are 4 of these. 2 and then 2 more directly above them.

there is also no light above the rl. in q3 you can actually stand on top of the light. although i've never seen anyone do it in a game.

oh I thought you couldn't do that in Q3. Nevermind then

You can do that only if pmove_fixed=1 (as in OSP). The way it’s made in deck1 appeals to me more -- this “sticking out thing” feels more pro-oriented. Non-pro gamers should just jump off the “railing” (I don’t remember how is that in English). :-)

Running around on this "remake" makes me ask the question "what's the point?" I'm really not getting why people want to recreate Q3 in Q4. Sure you got the map to play pretty close to how it plays in Q3, but to what end? I can understand wanting something familiar to play on but to spend so much time and effort to try to get the map to play *exactly* like the Q3 version is baffling to me. Do you think ztn spent as much effort trying to get the Q3 version to play *exactly* the same as the Q1 version? I doubt it.

Which brings up another point... remaking someone else's map without their permission is a no-no in my books. If ztn wants the map to be played in Q4, he should make a new version. You can give him a "Special Thanks" in the readme but in the end you are ripping him off. ztn's comment "there's no point of making a fuss about this" doesn't mean "I approve and support you remaking my map for Q4" it means "What's the point of trying to stop people, they'll rip me off anyways".

You have obviously grasped the basics of the Q4 editor so why not make an original map? My guess is you are looking for a "name" by being the guy to bring ztn3tourney1 to Q4.

because at current quake 4 has very few quality 1v1 maps,
ztn3tourney1 has good gameplay, which is why people want to play it.

the q1 version is pretty fucken close to the q3 version the only difference i really notice is by lg there is a jumpad up not the stairs like in the q1 version. so in that sense u are wrong.

Item layout was quite different, and the map was a WHOLE lot tighter everywhere.

Unless you've had a conversation with ztn where he specifically states that he "authorizes" your remake, you are ripping him off. ztn being "aware" of the remake is one thing... approving of you doing it something else completely. As I mentioned in my previous post, ztn is just not going to bother trying to stop people like you.

I come from the Quake mapping world and was able to learn the basics of the Unreal editor in about a week without remaking someone else's map. I guess I could have remade a popular map from Unreal and released it for Unreal Tournament to make a name for myself but I didn't because that would be lame.

Ok im finishing a few things regarding the stairs that lead to MH. I will release Bate9f within the hour. Everything from the last posts and videos have been fixed. I do once again want to thank you guys for giving such great help.

*Update*

Last night, i was gonna release version "f", but i start playing around with the Entrance to MH hallway. Im at work rah now so i really cant go into too much depth, but i can tell you it didnt go as planned. I was very tired too, i probably shouldnt of been workin on it in the first place. When it was just about all set and done in my eyes, it hit me, that i had done this wrong. Eventually , i went back to an earlier save and started over. By this time it was very late, so i didnt finish, thats why it wasnt released :( As soon as i get off work today i will complete "f" and get it uploaded for test. Version "f" should change the way the entrance is to the MH, so no matter which way you approach it, it should NOT mess with flow of the map. I also fixed a few more "edges" and began to work on the spiral stairs by the jumppad to YA/HB room. Also the stairs by YA teleporter have also been clipped. Map is starting to play great. I did forget to block the rightside ledge in the RL room. I will also do that b4 i release "f". When i started this map, i thought it would be a 1-2 week project. Wow i was wrong. As the map started to progress, and more and more feedback started to come in, i realized that this map should be made correctly, not just for a little tournament coming up here in february. Thats why i continue to work my a*s off on this map until the gameplay is 100% perfect. Realistically, I think there should only be 1-3 more released before the final release. Please keep in mind, i will completely redo lighting and textures. Also adding ambient sound in next version. Not much because the map actually played great without it, but needs something to mellow the vibe. Below is an agendo for myself:
a). Complete the reconstruction of the MH entrance and hallway.
b). Complete the clipping of the spiral stairs above jumppad leading to YA/HB room.
c). Add sound to map.
d). Fix Right side ledge in RL room so u can NOT get on top of it.
e). Add player locations.
f). Redo textures.
g). Add lighting.

I hope i didnt forget anything, and if i did please remind me :o I promise a release today as soon as i return home from work. Once again, thank for all the help and feeback that i have received. Be on the lookout for "f" today (100% this time).

i think if anything u need to change the textures they look fucken ugly as shit if your trying to make it a remake u definatly should try to make the textures more along the lines of those in q3.

*Important*
Please test out the stairs leading to MH now that i have made a few changes and tell me how it feels. Better? Worse?

Like i stated b4, all changes and fixes have been done except the following:

1. I did NOT finish clipping stairs above jumppad to YA/HB, its is a pain in the a*s to get it to feel smooth. Ive been able to make the outside feel good, but then the inside of the stairs feels horrible... o well itll be done in next release.

heres what i think.. the megahealth should be moved abit forward so that it's possible to strafe from LG to YA and pick up the mega while you're jumping cause now you have to stop and lose all momentum and if someone is camping @ rail and knows u will go for mega that's an easy rail for him. other then that it plays pretty smooth..

I can't find anything apart from what redemz said. Just move the megahealth forward very slightly.

I think you said get rid of the "item spawing thing" under the armours (looks wierd) and raise the items off of the floor slightly too (Again looks wierd). When re texturing try to keep the gothic theme of the original and the quake3 version.

YES PLEASE Keep the gothic theme. Maybe get some to make a new gothic tecture set for you, or ( not sure if it is possible) use the hell textures from doom 3 for it. could look nice...

Add nodrop 1 to the properties of the weapon/pickup entities. Otherwise the weapons and armour fall to the floor.

*Quick Update*

1st, let me start off by thanking "nexx". Weapons and armor are no longer resting on the floor. :)

2nd, As for the armor spawner thing. Now that the items are raised, it doesnt seem to look bad anymore. I think im going to keep them in.

3rd, I finished the entrance to the MH hallway. I am NOT going to say that its impossible to hit your head on the entrance, but it is very UN-likely now. even the jump from the GL doesnt slow you down how it used to. I think you all will be very happy with the end result of the entrance to the MH. :)

4th, is about being able to camp the RA spawn from GL. It was brought to my attention that in q3 you had to physically jump up to be able to see/hit your oponent after spawning through the Teleport leading to RA. Models in q4 are alot taller, which pretty much makes this impossible to fix. Look at it as "new" "quake4" gameplay feature. :p Nothing can be done about it, im very sorry, but i cant change the engine.

5th, Spiral Stairway leading towards YA/HB room is now fixed. I took a different approach this time and i feel it came out how it should of been in the first place. The spiral Staircase should no longer be a problem.

6th, This is the only problem left regarding "gameplay" issues. I can not figure out how to make info_locations (I think thats what i need). Basically, When playing TDM, and you look at your hud and it tells you the location of your teamate. HOW DO I DO THIS? all Visual portals are done. Somebody had told me that u needed to add "info_locations" inside of each room that has vis portals on the ends. IM LOST. If any1 could help me out here i would be very appreciative. PM, IRC, anything!!! :o

Last but not least,
Texturing and lighting are on their way :)!!! After I was finishing the last few problems (as stated above), I decided there needs to be a start on texturing. I am glad to announce that texturing is being worked on. Once finished, lighting will be redone correctly. Version "h" is being beta tested as we speak. I havent had any problems reported back to me yet, so i believe the gameplay in that version is complete. I havent uploaded it because there arent that many changes. If yall want, i can upload it so u guys can get a final run through it. If so, keep in mind the changes above are the only things changed in this version. I really appreciate you guys having so much patience and helping me beta test this map untill the gameplay is perfect. Thank you all for all of your help.

Regarding the issue with the MH.
It was possible to grab the MH without slowing down, it just wasnt that easy. You had to time it right, and it was completely possible. Though i wanted to make the map as friendly and as fun to play for every1, I moved the MH out 2 units. It still isnt that easy to grab it without losing speed, but its definately easier. As far as moving it out anymore, not gonna happen. Once im done with this map, i will upload a few demos of whats possible in the map that alot of people arent aware about ;)

This is and should be the final release regarding gameplay. The only thing that is not added is the "info_locations". Which when i figure out how to do them i will add them to the final release. I really, and i mean REALLY hope this is the last release regarding gameplay. Everything that had been pointed out is fixed. Please give it a run through a few times just to make sure. If you do find any problems please post them asap.

Also, somone had commented about changing the loading screen. Once the map is textured and lighted corerctly, i will then snap some more screenshots and put something fancy together. Sorry for not addressing this sooner, but thats the holdup.

ok problems have been found...

1. Ammo near RG teleport is uneven.
2. YA in YA/HB room is a little too high.
3. Spiral Stairs. They feel alot better but not perfect as i thought. I found the problem tho. And i will also raise the door to compensate for the jump. This is all i could find. If you do find more, please contact me asap.

Sorry for been out for so long -- I've had problems with Internet access.

I'm testing the "final" beta. :-) I'll write here in an hour my results.

I’m still worried about spawn points. I tested and found out that some respawn points are missing and _I_ don’t remember this point (http://www.ufacom.ru/~stas_/q4ztn_9i/shot00001.jpg) in Q3. I don’t think it’s a terrible thing, but it’s a difference. :-) BTW, regarding discussion somewhere on ESR I think you have to increase the number of respawns points -- it’s easy to predict next respawn in Q4 maps.

And there is still a problem with spiral stairs. Can you just remove the stairs and put a long spiral curve here? If it’s not possible -- well, this could stay in final version -- the problematic steps are easy to remember so people should just be careful when running over them. :-)

You’ve raised items so now it’s impossible to miss for example YA when running to teleport at high speed (sometimes I was forced to slow down to take the YA). Now there is not a chance to jump over an item and not take it. Well, it’s not that bad by itself, but it’s a difference. :-)

All in all looks like the map is done now -- fix the few problems and that’s all. :-) I hope you’ll allow me to betatest textures when you’ll finish them -- you know textures could affect gameplay as well. :-)

Glad to finally hear from _unreal_ :)

Im very sorry its been taking so long. Holidays hit, and ive been very busy with work (working aproximately 80-90 hours a week). The main room has been retextured, but thats about as far as i got. Ill go ahead and Take a screen shot of what it looks like and maybe you guys could give me some input. As for that edge, ill fix that when i open the editor next :)

looks like this still needs a lot of work, first of all why is the rail even in this map!, change the textures to as close as it was in the orignal, use caulk brushes to get rid of that white sparkle in bends, and remove the jumpad and make it back to as it was in the orignal.

*Update*

As u can see in the screenshot of the arch, you wont see your "white outlines". i redid the brushes. These textures are more then likely going to be the textures i complete the map with. As of regarding gameplay, only 2 changes have been done in BETA9j which are 2 edges clipped, and the spiral stairs have been fixed correctly. Everything else is the same and just about exact as its going to get. Im hoping to release the map sometime this weekend, probably the monday after x-mas.

My comments on the screenshots:

The textures look fine except the bright white spots -- they are too distracting, I think. Maybe I’ll make them yellow? Or green? -- that would be cool looking and easy for eyes.

And you’ve added several completely black textures -- they remove depth from the map, I believe. It looks as if the black places are completely flat and turned to player. Please, make them bright! _I_ want more bright colors (bright yellow, orange) instead of the black walls. Are bright textures present in Q4?

I see that you're going to let the green-brown textures outside the main room. I don't think that's a great idea. The green-brown walls look as if they were buried under water for several years. This colors look dirty and not fun. :-) Please, use the theme of the main room everywhere on the map.

Kushdeck, I gave your map another run and have found two more edges. They are not easy to discover, but they have to be fixed, I think. When I try to jump forward, sliding along the wall, I hit the little bumps:

Why not? Without the bumps (edge problems) any map will feel a lot more smooth. I'd recommend every mapmaker find someone who will check the things. I know that pro players won't touch the bump, but newbies inevitably will hit them and die. :-)

i have been busy with the holidays (x-mas) but i have been abnle to get some more done. The main room and just about most of the lower hallway have been done. I hope to finish atleast another room by the end of tonight. I will keep workin until its release which will hopefully be shortly. This is the final Beta regarding texturing. Lighting is being done and the map will be final and realeased. The only reason i am releasing this beta version is to show off the textures. My texturing work may be a little Sub-Par, and i am really burned on the map. I have been working on something from scratch to be honest. I have to finish this map for a little tournament coming up that i stated a while back. I am going to submit the remake of the map when it is final to ZTN for his approval. If anybody thinks they can do a better texturing job and wants to, please contact me. If not, this is what the map will look like (texture wise). I am re-doing lighting as we speak. Just ran around it for a few min... the texturing seems ok as far alignments go, but i am not really digging the textures used though. if i knew anything about mapping i woul definately take a crack at it.

Nice texturing, a lot better than beta9i :) Just few spots where links (sorry i don't know anything in mapping/editor) between walls are visible... Like when you take teleport near lower YA, make a 180° after teleport and you will see what i mean ;]

I've actually tried another ztn remake, DM_Gelato (I think Zeicon made it) which had very similar textures as the Q3 version.. Well it looks alot better than this version tbh, no offence :)
