One of the most popular online shops - E-Bay now offers a very interesting product - Video Game Training Johnathan Fatality Wendel. If you are interesting in this product, you can visit the bid lot and start bidding at the price of 250.00 $.
He isn't egotistical. He's just doing everything he can to make money at what he wants to do in life. He knows he's one of the best pro gamers out there. If anyone else believes this then it is perfectly fine for him to do so as well.
If he wins WCG2002 and this e-bay thing came up right after his victory... i think i would put down a serious bid. $250 is ok.. if you read the details you get memorabillia and all sorts!
Like al you need is a teacher, being a pro-gamer is more than instructions. You need talent, dedication, intuition etc. Altough fat can learn you how to play the game, you will need to make ur own decisions in a game, he can't make those for you.
There would be no point to this, you don't learn gaming by spending a day with someone telling you stuff. You have to play for hours and hours against people who are better than you.
If I had $250 to spend I'd put it towards a trip to watch the WCG finals in Korea.
Is it just me or does fat look like he's two steps away from winning a special olympics medal? Just add a big tongue and rock him back and forth. How much would it cost to get fat to come to my house and try to bite his ear for a couple hours?
While I believe that fat could probably sell his underpants for considerable amount of money, I think he decided to make cash in the wrong area this time. Im sure there will be someone who will buy it, but that person is being conned, as he is not getting 250$+ worth.
The things that fat could tell the guy in 1 day are just things that could be read on any pro-gaming site; Im thinking of things like timing armor etc...
Anything else that could truely improve someone's skill; does not take 1 day.
In my opinion, this takes a lot away from the 'nice guy' image that is generally associated with fat, since he is purely and simply trying to rip off a person. I would think more of him if he makes cash off his mousemats rather than this.
This doesn't seem like some fatal1ty stunt but rather a "Barnes Sports" stunt. If you look at the items for sale for this user (which is selling fatal1ty's "lessons") you'll note similar items: lessons with, err, uncommon "sports" celebrities. The funny thing is, "Dog Sled Iditarod with DeeDee Jonrowe Alaska" is more popular (having more bids) than "Video Game Training with Johnathan Fatality Wendel" even though it's not at the front page on the ebay site.
well as im goin to take the golfing with Jack Niklaus for 10.000$ fat can meet me at the course with a laptop for 250$ for some games during this boring golfing.

nah in seriousness hes one of the best hes tryin to get by so why not im all for it. im just not exactly gonna pay for it =/
Wow this is pretty amazing. But to those who say you can't benefit from coaching in video games, that's just like saying football clubs should stop employing trainers, like suggesting a golfer has never had someone improve his swing or claiming that a chess player can't be taught new strategies. Of course to be the very best you need some existing talent and you need to practice extensively but saying that you can't benefit from expert tutelage is just ludicrous.
Well yes that's true and so probably a more worthwhile (and potentially more lucrative) method would be to set himself up as something similar to a personal fitness consultant. He could open a LAN cafe and people could book one or two hour sessions of personal coaching which they would have on a regular basis, obviously at a significantly lower price than the service he's offering at the moment. If it was successful he could then start a chain of them hiring a recognised progamer to hold regular tutorials at each one.
Hhhmmm, maybe i shouldn't be telling you all this, maybe i should be selling the idea to Mr Wendel himself....=)
can't you see though, that is the whole point, that is why people are dissing fat. not really because of the idea, but the fact that its just 1 day, and costs so much. You cannot learn anything in 1 day from a pro trainer that you couldn't learn elsewhere for free (websites etc).
now all they need to do is provide a time machine that warps you back to the year 2000..
if we take the last Qcon, and the Russian WCG qualifier as any example, it simply shows that the competition is pretty level now at the highest level.. i'd think if one was going to make such a bold statement about being #1, you'd at least want to have won a tourney in the past couple years or so.. no?
he is a progamer, gotta make money some how. People flaming are just the jealous peeps that cant do this themselves becuz they aint as good as he is. Dont like the idea? then dont buy it, no need to flame tho.
wow he really is an athlete. this is a typical has-been sort of stunt. what's funny is, i can actually believe that he's this petty and would allow his name to endorse such a farse. no wonder his girlfriend left him. what a washed-up, self-absorbed, deluded wannabe we have here.
hm, if someone pays like $1000 (when it's finally all done). I think they're going to want to rape fatality once he gets to their house, and they find out that they still fucking blow at the end of the 1 day.
I just don't understand some of you guys in here, wait, this site is about e-sports, right?
This site is about promoting e-sports, yes, yet you flame a gamer who want to make money out of gaming. How can e-sport be big if players don't earn money.
Fat is trying to live off pro-gaming that's perfectly acceptable IMHO, it's attitude like that that keeps players in the game. Do you think players will go to UNI if their future was safe with pro-gaming, I'm not saying UNI is bad but just take football for example, or any other sports, don't they David Beckham or others get paid just to attend TV shows and sell shit???
about those talking about raping him, why not try to do it in the game, eh?
anyway, maybe when you'll get above the stage where you don't depend on the parents you'll understand...or I just hope so
Personally I think it may be a bit early for these kind of "offers". The prizemoney paid at tourneys for the people not placing 1-3 are still too small for a teenager to shove away 250$ for a practice run. And then we have the pro's who maybe already have beaten Fat and why would they pay for playing him again? I'm not saying he won't get any customers I'm merely saying that this may be difficult considering the situation today.
I don't think he is targeting any particular teenager or pro, is he? He is just offering a service, either you take it or you don't...and there's always a start, it's never too early for anything.
fatal1ty will always be the most professional and talented at Quake3 in my book, and I'm sure the same goes for many others. I think it would be an honor to just to play a few games with him.
lol
i dont know what to say about fat making a instructional q3 video.
more power to him though, make that money man. forget what some of these idiots have to say, you know what your doing is beneficial to you.
i think he does have an original idea though, an the flamers ussually feed off of stuff like that. i think ID software shouldve put stuff like timeing armor, rocket jumping, etc. . in there manual. cant blame them though, its like in mortal combat, the fatalitys(speak of the devil) werent all in the manual, some you had to find on your own, or buy something from them that shows you... or hell, go online an get the info for free. you can do the samething in this case, go online.. but it doesnt make sense in this case.. fat is selling his manual online instead of advertising on an infomertial(however you spell that)which would make more sense if you go along with my mortal combat analogy.
who know what im talkin about though :D i shoulda thought of that :)
fats agent told him to do it heh
let me clear this up, as alot of you seem to be confused about this - this isn't a VIDEO. fatal1ty is going to meet with this person and play quake3 with them. and I personally think he can make a crappy player good (decent, anyway) in one day if they play constantly. I also think he will win WCG2002, but I also am crazy.
fatality won't make top 8 @ wcg. hear it now. believe it. but aside from that, what so many people don't understand that he isn't the 'role model' gaming needs. he's stuck up, arrogant, and generally a self-righteous dick. and before you disagree, tell me this mr. fanboy: have you ever spent a weekend at his house? or anything more than running around jocking his nuts on the internet/lans? i doubt most of you that sing his praise have even met the guy. ha, someone even called him professional. that's cute too.
ha, such a rant
excuse me.
but either way, this is quite laughable. in fact, it's worse. it's tacky. i'd like to begin a movement to refer to him as soldoutal1ty.
I speak with Fat via IRC about once every 2 weeks or so, play with him about once a month, when I can. I have meet him previously at Quakecon 2001 and 2002, and the WCG qualifier in Dallas. Every time I have seen him he was willing to stop and talk with just about anyone who walked up. He has always seemed a nice guy and presented himself very well. He plays openly in public servers occasionaly and will even tell players mistakes they make. If he isnt a role model for gamers then I am curious as of who is. Daler is another pro player I talk with who has a similar additude and personallity as Fat. Both players have top spots in my book. I would rather see them play and lose 100 times than watch Zero4 play as he laught and taunts his opponent during a 2001 Quakecon final match.
I met fat at xsi2. He was very friendly and has to be one of the nicest top gamers out there. He's won more prize money and prizes then any other pro gamer out there in more than 1 game, how isn't that professional? A day gaming with him would prove to be very useful for the novice or the pro wannabe im sure :>
Don't know why people are making such a fuss about this... if you've got it y not flaunt it?
yes u are... Jealousy never got you anywhere, so no need to start now.
I bet you hate Michael Jordan, Gretzky, and Montana too hu... The dicks!
Grow up . . . my god! If you have EVER met the guy (which you have not) and ever spent some time with the man (which you have not) you may be able to make a logical decision on him (which you can't).
Get your dad to wipe your @ss and then come back and make some "logical" sense instead of spouting your unedumecated ignorance...
learning to play a game is like learning to improvise on guitar, having a teacher can cut like 4-5 years out of ur learning curve. well worth it, altho q3 is dying anyway.
WHY NOT TAKE LESSONS FROM ME? :[ I'm intermission-lsv i'm so l33t u can learn to tell ppl off like "hey listen... buddy... EAT SHIT" and the classic "BLWO ME U KAPSUTA MOTHERFUKER" etc... see? for only 999.99$$$$$$$$$555
Opens up his diary
"My Quake 3 - day with Jonathan 'fatal1ty' Wendel
1. Arrival
fatal1ty arrived in his fat-mobil and cheerfully greeted me by waving with a gigantic mouse-pad through the car-window.
'Heya, buddy, how's it going, ready to gear up for the big game, what ya say ?'
'Hooray, you bet', I proclaimed enthusiastically.
We went into the house, where butter-cookies, tea and my computer with an extra chair awaited us.
'But wait, my friend', fatal1ty cautioned me, putting his big right hand onto my shoulders.
'Aren't you forgetting something ?'
'Of course ! How stupid of me. The thing, that always comes first: GOOD LUCK !'
'Hahaha, you got it, buddy, he snickered and gave me a pat on my back, giving me the sing, that now is FAT - TIME !'
2. The training
We sat down and he put my fingers on the keyboard and carefully adjusted my mouse sensibility. He laughed
'You know, I was a beginner once, too, can you believe it ?'
'WOW ! So, I might be as good as you someday, you mean ?'
I franatically answered.
'Hohoho, wait up, young man, we're not quite there, we're not quite there', he smiled at me.
'Okay, okay, I know, but I really want to do it right, with your help.', I said, nervously awaiting his tips.
'You know, what, that's why I am here. Let's go !'
He fired up Quake 3 and we wandered through his favourite map, Pro-DM6.
'You know, this map is fairly easy to control, but watch out for the rail gun. Alright, you try it....here, let me spawn a nightmare-custom-fat-bot for ya, I developed'
'Alright !!', I shouted.
Time passed, and soon it was evening and time to say good-bye.
I learned a lot from the big man himself.
Good night.
