cant believe anyone is still playing troubled waters, can anyone explain to me why its still regarded so highly?
to me its the equivalent of playing dm6 in duel (well that kinda explains why people still play it :D)

i dont think that map is still played cause its that good. but we just have a lack of good ctf maps so ctf2 is still among the top6 maps.

In CTF you tend to have 2 styles of player. Aim whores and flag runners. This map caters for both quite nicely.

If you ever wanted to showcase the art of flag running this map has provided plenty of creative examples over the years.

truth is those tricks are extremely bland and unexciting to anyone who has played a proper team fortress / ctf game, it really makes me think how much ctf'rs have missed if they think those are somehow awesome :/

I wouldn't expect anyone who doesn't play QL CTF to appreciate this. Guys like linkje, id and Gerppa have produced exceptional flag runs on here, all noticeably different in style. I'm just pointing out that this map allows for a lot of creativity in comparison to a majority of the other maps we have available for CTF.

Your team fortress argument is absolutely retarded by the way. I can safely assume that 98% of ppl who play QL CTF haven't played it :)

sure, but the flagruns are hardly spectacular, they are only a testament to how lackluster ql movement and qlctf is

it was just a bullshit comment to show how easy it is to write shit when you have no clue about what's going on.

ql tdm has a lot of the elements that makes tdm great, while its not perfect its ok. ql ctf lacks a lot of the things that makes ctf type games great. im not hating on ctf, i just think its extremely dull and lackluster

only thing that makes ctf dull and lacklustre is that it's being played on the majority of same old maps for 10+ years, while new maps get no chance with most of the community (and since beta batch of maps, with iron and siberia there hasn't been any new & playable maps aside from maybe too huge stonekeep).

Could you sum up some of those elements? Because when I read reports or see VODS, all I see is Juven1le destroying these oldschool 'TDM Gods' by stringing together 70 percent rail and deciding the map that way.

Wish that would work for me in CTF, but since killing people with 70 percent rail doesn't increase my teams cap limit, I feel I need a different approach. Maybe I can learn something from these extraordinary elements in TDM that you seem to know of.

uh, you seem to have completely missed the point. of course killing people with 70% rail in ctf wont bring you the victory like in tdm, since the point isnt killing. why did you even start to compare tdm and ctf? and nowhere did i say tdm elements would help you in ctf. i only said qlctf is very dull compared to other, quite similar ctf type games. you're just butthurt

Just to get you back on track: I made a very sarcastic comment on your CTF is lackluster and dull. Because TDM obviously isn't for the reason I mentioned that it can be decided by one guy hitting most of his rails.

QL ctf is the retarded cousin of CTF.
CPM, Q1,Q4, "Q3 (same bs)" all did it better

that comment coming from a guy that played 69 ctf games since february 2009 in quake live, you obviously haven't even invested any time into ql ctf, just being aggravated & butthurt that id didn't bring cp9 and cp15 like so many other ex-osp players.

please go stick to clan arena and keep on makin whine threads about warpers on pub servers, that's only thing you seem to be able to do right.

Ctf pickup + public don't really float my boat, and neither did competitive ctf even though all 69 games are even CB or other tournament. (Osp ctf is just as boring and broken)
Remove _all_ old maps, introduce a more aggressive game-mechanic. = instawin.
Fixing the game with additional spawn time = symptom of bad game design.

Really pleased to see Tornado in the TDM map list. However i'd prefer the game to be bo3, it gets a little boring playing each teams home map and nothing to decide an actual winner. Obviously the emphasis is to not lose their map but still, i think bo3 gives a better game overall.

I completely agree. We are currently playing in HOQ as well, and it kind feels -> '...That was it?!' after the 2x maps when you have a 1-1 tie :(

I rather get a bit angry and lose, or happy to win than a bullshit tie! :D

Note (not sure if this is the case in this tournament/league): If you have bo3, and a team wins with 2:1. Then imo 1x point should go the the losing team, and 2x points to the winning team, and only award 3x points if a team wins with a clean 2:0. This is the only system I personally approve of if you have group stage/league in bo3 format.

Yeah that describes my feelings on it really.

A draw isnt exactly a satisfying result or a good feeling of how the game may have actually played since really you'd expect div1/2 for teams to be pretty damn good on their home map at the very least meaning a lot of 1-1 results.

You would only need to look at ek in HoQ this season to see we win purgatory and lose osp5 to all who pick it and whilst its our fault for being crap on this map it would also be nice to play a decider to see some kind of satisfactory outcome, it may even be quite a competitive/entertaining map.. two teams fighting for the points rather than settling for 1 each.

We hope that in a league system where there are no playoffs it gets a bit more exciting in the rankings if ties are possible.
It also might help with scheduling when people know that it will take them one hour at max to finish a game, which might turn out to be important in december when people have just enough time to play two maps before they have to go buy some more xmas presents. :)
I am sure that it will still be an interesting league in which you guys will have plenty of fun.

If i remember back to the votes you had, Tornado got almost as many votes as OSP5 so i think its a good choice to include it, some variation in the maps is good and its on the other teams to practice it now, it may also throw a few surprise results.

finnegans is probably the best map in the map pool and requires ton of hard teamplay to win. no wonder aim teams don't like it and try to get it removed (like from hoq), just cause their aimheavy ctf style doesn't produce any results there.

I'm not really a siberia lover, but from my short experiences on those two maps, they were a full on bore.

Imo the only chance to do that is by bringing new maps as an addition to the existing ones (notice this league has a six map pool which is quite uncommon) and then see which are played a lot and which aren't.
Yes, one could "force" people to play only all-knew maps but 1) We have to please people in order to have active cups and leagues and 2) the community isn't all that traditionalist (anymore), as for example dm14 isn't played very often anymore these days.

I am confident that it will be very easy to ge rid of the remaining old maps once we get new maps that are actually good. Replacing dm14 with Dies Irae for example apppeared pointless to me.

DM14 isn't being played because none of the active teams are good enough at it to pick it over other maps.
