For the previous prizes, when BP was sponsoring, we accept every bad comment as it was huge letdown for us and all prize winners. Since we dropped BestPoker as a sponsor, every single prize was paid and hardware was shipped.

There were some problems now and then with the hardware, but not that we did not send it but some things like SteelSeries restocking... If you want to know more you are free to ask players who have participated in our tournaments and won the prizes.

i know all that and i agree that some comments here are stupid, but there is still enough reason to find the behavior lame. but i already posted my opinion about it back then, no need to start arguing about it again...
maybe you should just accept that the name fnatic play got damaged around here by not jumping in for the sucky sponsor once, cause imho thats all that is happening here.

I hear their approach is to be very lenient towards organizers who don't pay promised prizes. And yes, I looked at the tournament page, during the last discussion. It said there that fnatic promised the prizes, not Bestpoker.

Fnatic doesn't promise anything, Fnatic only delivered the website and staff to work with. The rest is handle by PLAY, two different organizations.

We will never pay you, you are totally correct. Not with this cup or any coming cups. Our sponsors pay the prizes, not PLAY nor Fnatic.

First off, I have nothing to do with PLAY, I work for FnaticMSI. Secondly, the only responsibility PLAY can take is to say that we picked the wrong sponsor. A sponsor that has served us well for a long time, but apparently felt to betray us. Other than that, we can't. There is no bank account to pay from or no side money.

Instead of whining at one cup that didn't get paid out, why not be happy with the twenty or so other cups did get paid out. Afterall, this is esports, where world's leading gaming tournaments such as ESL, ESWC and such have problems paying out.

I think this whole situation is more of a pain to PLAY than to any of the players that didn't get paid. One, they got betrayed by a sponsor. Two, people now blame them for something they can't do something about. Three, they put in a lot of effort, time and well ran cups but still get nothing in return.

If people can't be grateful, events will pull out. A good example is DotA. If I was you and a lot of other people here, I would cherish what is given. As I said before, this is eSports afterall.

If PLAY didn't care about the players they wouldn't have held several other cups after the failed CA one. They would have just moved to bigger eSports titles such as WC3 and CS.

With these cups PLAY is not looking to develop eSports, that's not the job of small cups like these. PLAY is looking to cater players with well ran cups and nice prizes to compete in for fun. Unfortunately they are heavily dependant on sponsors, and that is the only way to run a fun cup which you don't have to pay for to enter. Sometimes you have some bad luck, get back on your feet and try again. It's a shame that some people are trying to make it harder for PLAY to do so and take things for granted instead of cherishing what they get, while not having to give anything.

Who are responsible for developing eSports, however, are the top players, top organizations (both leagues and teams) and the community, who shouldn't be whining and moaning on forums, scaring off sponsors.

Their sponsors pay the prizes, they do not. They barely have anything on their bank account (yes, more than PLAY, but they have a lot more people following it). If their sponsor pulls out, they will not be paying the prizes.

You don't seem to have any idea what you are talking abuot.

Organisations like the NHL have binding contracts with their sponsors, so the sponsors would have to declare insolvency to not pay the entire sum. Otherwise the NHL would just sue them.

So, if PLAY didn't manage to
a) make a good binding contract with Bestpoker and
b) make it clear that prizes are paid out only by the sponsor

then they made a mistake and they owe the player the prizes.

At the very least they should grow up and admit that. But apparantly that is not possible.

It's great and all that they still run those cups, but that alone doesn't repair your reputation. And also that of fanatic, cause I'm not buying the "we have nothing to do with them" - line for one second.

It's sad that you get paid to defend them, but the players don't get paid for winning. =/

As said previous, all prizes were taken care of by Bestpoker, unfortunately they decided it was not profitable enough to sponsor PLAY and pulled out. There is no money to pay with, other than what we receive from our current sponsors, who are not willing to clean up Bestpoker's mess, and rightly so.

I think the two quotes in my post are contradicting each other. And it always hurts the reputation of an organisation if an employee makes contradicting statements, especially within one day.

Also, all we ask for is that they admit that they made a mistake.
Everyone makes mistakes, but it is important how you deal with them.

I for one have more respect for people who admit it, because that mostly means they are trying to improve.
If they deny they made a mistake, then they might also think there is not reason to change anything.

imo, it's not like those prizes were some big money, they could've just opened up their wallets (the guys who organised the tourney, guys in PLAY) and collect the fucking money + prizes if they really cared about players getting payed and not getting their reputation tarnished... but hey, i bet this next fnatic play cup will at least be agp sanctioned.
