I disabled the pop-ups in avast, it never bothers me at all. unless it goes ballistic over some keygen or something.

id try switching it to 120hz then doing a reset via the monitor options

edit: to describe the distortion it sort of creates a ghost image of what i am seeing that everything has a shadow and the image is made out of dotted vertical lines just like in the images i've seen in internet where somebody is playing using the 3d goggles

yeah i'm guessing now that i have to link both of the dvi outputs from my graphic card to the dvi cable from the monitor to get 120hz? am i right?

Just use the cable that comes in the box and it should work @ 120hz

there was nothing wrong with the screenshot as I realized after I checked it using 60hz. The problem is with my monitor and I cannot take a screenshot of my monitors output. The screenshot you just saw was just fine.

well I own 2233rz , but don`t have any problems with it. The best thing to do would be to take your monitor to friend to see if it works on his comp. If not then u might take it back under warranty....That would be the best diagnosis whats wrong, your monitor or maybe some settings on your computer.

Yeah I run winxp and i have no problems like this. I would like to know how to fix aspect ratio so that I can play on 4:3 without having to manually switch my desktop reso to 1024x768 every time I want to play.

I have the same setup, 2233rz - 8800gt - xp sp3... no problems at all

i had issues with gpu scaling checked in ati driver options

there's also the possibility that it's jsut faulty.. if all else fails get it replaced.

don't have an ati and there is no options concerning scaling in nvidia options

I have a 2233rz too and it works for me with XP SP3 and several diff gfx cards (including the 8800gt IRC). Only thing I remember that I had to set 120 hz from the dialog that pops up when right-clicking on the desktop and then, after that, adjust the rest of the settings from the actual driver menu.

yeah. im going to get a newer graphics card and if that fails i'm just going to return this.

at the nvidia page there is a test where you can see if your system is "3D ready" and it said my graphics card isn't even tho it is on the compatibility list. i'm not sure if i should trust the test because i couldn't identify any of my components by name and it jst declared that my graphics card isn't good enough. on top of that it recommended me the most expensive gpu as a replacement when my other components are as old as the 8800gt and i don't think i could benefit from the new gpu.

No, don't listen to marketing hype. 120 hz is not rocket science. I get 120hz for the 2233rz on OpenBSD with OSS radeon drivers and a ATI X1950 easily (just as an example about older hardware).
Most likely broken hardware.

have you checked the cable? had this same problem when i bought the monitor (was rather surpised:) turned out it was the cable - one of the pins was bent and distorted

i'm guessing that your ati3870 is enough to handle any game that it can handle with any monitor. i don't see how the monitor would affect the performance of the gpu.

but i've read that alot of people are having compatibility problems using ati cards and 2233rz. i think it's pretty random if it works or not.

well i obviously won't be able to play them at higher resolutions, so i'll be forced to reduce it to like 1024x768 at best. dunno how the monitor reacts to that.

My 5770 has no issues with the 2233RZ. Using 9.12 Catalyst, Windows 7 x64 though.

I have a GeForce 275GTX on XP and have had no problems with 120hz, and I play on 1680x1050

took the monitor back, they gave me a new one and it works :))) all i have to do now is to figure out how to enable gpu scaling on my comp. yay!

I did that and yes..I love it! The extra desktop space, the extra screen space, the lower stress on the eyes and the lack of radiation, it looks far more sexy, uses less power, there is no high screen pitch sound like many CRTs/old cathode ray tube TVs would emit cause by the flyback transformer. And the picture is also better with certain colours, even though it's a TN panel.

i replaced my 19" crt with one and love it.

with your ati card @120hz:

if you want to use windows 7 + non native you WON'T be able to
if you want to use windows 7 + native res you CAN
if you want to use xp + non native you can
if you want to use xp + native you can
