doubt it, relic are only concerned about getting as many ex packs out as poss whereas if they'd skipped DC and SS they could've got DoW2 out on the essence engine and concentrated only have 3 or 4 well balanced races in a new game

I don't think so either, but he did mention it, and arrangers have done stranger things before. Here's hoping for 1v1 DM.

If it's not going to be UT3, I hope for Q3 or W�W.. Not because I dislike Q4, but less whining.. and maybe some of the most diehard fanboys will die of a heart attack or something. ;) Gotta think positive.

Still hope for UT3, even though when they've already picked a duel game in the genre it looks like there's small hope for it to get picked, which sucks big time... as the game just got fixed by the patch, customut and the linux server... everything fell in to place just 2 weeks too late :((

We have made the choice to keep a fast FPS game in ESWC in spite of the fact that the community of players is reduced and that the challenge is reserved to an elite. In a word, this family of games offers the most obvious demonstration of what a cyber athlete is and what electronic sports should be. We have taken the necessary time to wait and evaluate all the new potential games. At the end, none of them yet guarantee the minimum conditions to become a genuine eSports platform, stable, open to broadcast, and supported by its studio or the community through a mod.

The last titles in our short list were Q3, Q4, Warsow and UT3. We have finally chosen Quake 3 because we think this is:

a) The best software technologically: best client, server, broadcasting tools, support
b) The best display for the show and public: best readability and rhythm of match
c) The best long-term potentiality with the upcoming Quake Zero (based on Quake 3 gameplay and engine) that could be the ultimate fast and free FPS that deserve electronic sports

yeah, i like vQ3 too, because then, when I go back to quakeworld, quake 4, warsow or cpma it's like kicking the vq3 lead boots off so i can actually move around again.
It gives fast games perspective. Really makes the speed 'pop' so to speak.
Without games like UT3 and VQ3 to compare them to, how would anyone know what a fast game was?

Engine has to do with game design, granted however just because an engine has a good game doesn't mean that all the games based on that engine are going to be good. All games based on any engine have the potential to be good. Q3 isn't the be all and end all. Quake4's gameplay has been tweaked to a point where it's actually decent but it's still, even with the best efforts of AJ et al. hurt by the Doom 3 engine + the fucking over it got from Raven.

i think you go too far saying q4 isnt a good game. sure there were plenty of problems when it came out but these have been rectified. there is alot i dont personally like about it and that is why i dont even have it installed anymore. it suffered the same fate as all new non realism PC fps's in that there is no longer a very large community there who wants to play them.

i wouldnt go so far to say that UT3 is not a good game. it is suffering the same as q4 did with a bad release and the community ut2k4 has not being really interested and no new players coming in to play it.

its all relative in the end. compare Q4 and UT3 to most other new fps games and they are brilliant. just compared to their predecesors they are bad. the formular is there and its alot better then what else is out there.

quake zero is trying to be a more direct copy of q3 gameplay in the q3 engine so that is why its a viable platform for generating interest.

How come Quakeworld wasn't among those last games? It fulfills all those criterias just as well as those other games - if not better.

Edit: the reason i'm asking is not because i feel like whining, but because i'm genuinely curious. It would be nice to know what needs to be done in order for the game to even be considered for events like these.

The "spectators" probably won't care as long as they like what's presented for them (yeah, presented - i don't think other players actually tune in to watch Q3/Warsow/Q4 unless they play it themselves and even if they did, QW is 10x easier to setup than those games).

The "new" players would probably not be a big deal either if it was a big tournament coming up. Pracpracprac etc.

The QW community is better than the Q3 one at least. I tried to get into the game for a while at qw.nu and there were some nice people.

I think that QW is too dated compared to Q3 to be considered though. I mean it was one of the first 3D games, I know you can use custom renderers and what not, but it hasn't aged that well IMO.

It's dated. The only thing really updated is some of the 24bit textures, and those only do so much. I've played qw with some of my q3 friends and heard comments like "omg, my eyes are bleeding." I can only imagine what people who expect state of the art engines must think.

You can sugar coat it, or just ignore the facts, but as far as the engine and netcode go qw is very dated. And just because 1 country in asia doesn't care about 1 game looking old doesn't mean the age of a game's engine won't affect people's perception of it. The gameplay is fun... but the engine is 4 or 5 generations old.

...which includes ezQuake, so that should be alright. I can't see how you think the engine - apart from the graphics perhaps - is dated when it feels solid and have more features than <insert any FPS game here>. There is also QTV which opens up the ports to mass broadcasting. Sure there is GTV and what not in the other games, but the QTV concept (with MVD, http://eztv.eql.nu and all the other nifty things) is really something special.

Besides Starcraft there is also CS that has a DATED engine btw.

maybe because its not as viewer freindly in terms of readability for none quakeworld fans as point b states?

though vq3 in itself has some of this problem, i personally (though i watch qw when its avalible) think that the speed and very quick spawn fragging makes it hard for someone who dosent know the game to watch. also some of the maps are pretty indecipherable, with unused corridors, dead ends and lots of teleporters.

You mean two of them? :) Aerowalk and ZTNDM3 are pretty much the same as in Q3. I wouldn't say DM6 has loads of corridors and teleporters. DM2 and DM4...perhaps. But as Carmac(?) said - educate them! :D

Might be too fast and too furious though. I dunno how Warsow is in this aspect, but shouldn't be that far off? The interesting thing in QW is that the pace allows players to develop and master their own style. Fast paced ala Reppie, tactful ala Dag and aimbotlike ala Interceptor.

well i did say some and you did mention practically all the most popular duel maps. you make a good point about warsow, from my point of view i would love to see qw or wsw at eswc, but i was trying only to explain why according to the 3 points given, they might take q3 over qw.

the reason i have said i would like to see wsw at eswc in the past is i would really like the game to get a chance at attracted a larger player base. the guys behind it have come up with a really nice game with innovative gameplay aspects and i think for all those complaining they want something new it is a far better choice then q4 or ut3.

Well, there is no newer version of StarCraft and no newer version of 1.6 that is as good as the original, but the gameplay of Quake 3 does not differ much from Quakeworld, there are more weapons and the engine can be tuned to look far better.

...so...? If you have read what i have written i only asked why Quakeworld wasn't part of those last five(?) games he listed. It doesn't even have to be better than Quake 3 to be on such a list!

My personal assumption is that the knowledge of Quakeworld among those tournament administrators is too little though (hey, the community will most certainly help you out if you ask us!) and they were all "brought up" with Quake 3 at their side.

It sucks, but that's probably how it was.

The Good:
Picking 1v1 DM at all still makes ESWC the most credible organization in the eyes of the "oldschool" competitive gamers. This is nice to see.

The Bad:
Picking Q3 (!) effectively isolates 1v1 DM completely from anything connected with the future. UT3 is a new game, has a leg in team gaming, and a leg in console. Q3 has none of the above. Your move strengthens Halo's position as the #1 duel FPS, and this could be the death of 1v1 DM as we know it.

There's something very French about this decision. Like Quake, the French culture was once #1 in many areas, which led many French to believe the French culture defined superiority in itself. Much the same attitude we see from Quakers today. From that point, both the French and the Quake-players closed the door as much as possible for influence from the outside.

We see in Belgium today how the Flemish culture is getting the upper hand over their previously superior French neighbours. The Flemish speak French, but the French aren't so eager to learn their neighbours' language.

Why are the Flemish getting the upper hand in Belgium? Because they have the window open to the future, and to influences from the outside. Something Q3 unfortunately does not have.

If there was a set standard then there would be hope for DM gaming. As it is now, all the people that have worked for YEARS (q4 pro's, all of which started on a prior Quake series game) to get to their skill level are left with nowhere to show it anymore.

So if we had the same gameplay then the players could keep improving, and the upped graphics CAPABILITIES would keep the hardware companies pumping money into the tourneys (like Intel and Nvidia)

To gain a fair playing field you need a lan to lan you need money, to play on an unfair playing field i.e. internet you need a pc again you need money. You could start 100's of football matches in the park for the cost of playing 1 quake duel game.

Hope ESWC staff didn't base their pick on what they read here on esr / what polls were voted, because if they did it would've been a somewhat narrowminded view on the dm community, only favouring quake by picking a quake site.

Anyway... Dissapointed in ESWC, they could atleast have picked both ut and quake like the good old days. Guess it's another year without any interesting esport events. 2003-2004-2005 was the best years....

I kind of doubt that they picked Quake 3 soley because of rabid ESReality fanboys. I agree with his motivations for going with Quake 3 100% .

And really, it was the no brainer choice considering their short list.

* Warsow is immature, though probably a close second to Q3 (no WarsowTV yet, non-trivial 0.4 patch coming out in January which will probably shake things up even further)
* Quake 4 is dead (tiny community that died with WSVG, ugly to spectate)
* UT3 is immature (just came out, no UTV or any 'promod' of any sort, ugly and boring to spectate).

Now would be the perfect time to reinstall Quake 3 and celebrate.

Cod4 has pretty good sys reqs, I get constant 110-125fps at full quality and 1024x768 with my E6600 and 8800GTS.

I can't imagine it'd be that bad for people with worse computers if they turn some stuff down.

Being able to customize it to death, well I dno what you'd need more settings than ut2k4 has, for. It got the needed things I think, being able to make hud bigger or smaller, change opacity, remove elements of it. Being able to get ANY crosshair you want.

UT2k4's netcode out of the box was quite good. UTComp made enhanced netcode, basically for people with high pings, it works alright... but it's only used in the states, since it introduces some bugs unfortunately... and the whole deal with getting hit even if you're already around the corner, pisses too many people off to bother using it :P

seriously, try to look this from an objective pov:
You cannot oversee that ut3's start is a disaster, even worse than Q4's was (if you look at the players/servers tourneys etc.)
Now don't start with "more players will come soon, because of hardware/patch/christmas/linux-server-released", because we all know that this won't happen.
I really wished UT3 would become a success, but in the end it is EPICs own fault, as much as Q4 was Raven/id's.

from a technical pov it was a disaster, I agree. but the gameplay is perfect. It's much more entertaining to watch than ut2k4.

As you can see, they already put out beta linux server, and the first patch. In the first month, there's what... 7 months until ESWC, and like 3-6 months until qualifiers. They'll for sure have another patch out by then if not two patches.

Look at their previous games, ut2k4 was patched quite some and every time it was technical stuff that was patched big time.

Look at the first patch for UT3, it patched a lot of technical issues, 1-2 . They are actually working on it, and working fast. They're not ID Software you know.

the point is there is still a risk UT3 won't be completely fixed by the time ESWC starts. It's likely it will be fixed, yes but not certain.

Bad argument, you are using a subjective preference to determine "the best 1v1 game". �t's also a trap as in that if you added up all the comments on the subject, q3 would come up as a community favourite because of all time playerbase, and tourneys it was used in over the years. Q3 was more popular, the argument on what game is better is entirely speculative and irrevelant for eswc's decision.

Imo tourney organizers use games that will gain them certain leverages over gamers. Popularity is one factor, so is garnering "followers" that will support the organization, customers so to speak. Thus ESWC chose Quake 3 because of the future potential with Quake Zero. It is also a safe decision because they had a lot of experience with the game before hand, so they know how to run the tourney and are also sure it will guarantee attendence which in turn means a good show overall. Really doubt the matter of "which game is better" popped up even once.

It's not like I'm the only one of us two who're loyal to his own game.

It's just my opinion that I find q3 rather boring to spectate (I by far enjoy q4 much more to spec) and on top of that I find it boring to see the same 17 players play the game... even pk was better as the game was pwn to spec, made up for it that there was only a select few that actually played it.

oh and yes I would give it a go if they picked UT3. And you'd see plenty of new faces.

UT2k4 was hitscan based, indeed.... there's a reason why I love UT3 much more than ut2k4 ;)

nevertheless, weapons in 2k4 didn't do so much damage, so armours did matter quite a lot, in ut3 they do more damage but belt reflects 100%.. and the hitscan is not nearly as dominant.

Crippled movement... matter of preference yet again... when I play quake I feel crippled because I can't do just what I want to do.

You feel 'crippled' because Quakes movement is much more advanced and fluid compared to UT. UT is simple dodge, jump, walljump. Anyone can understand that, and it might take a few days to feel comfortable with it. Quakes movement is MUCH more advanced, it doesn't take one day to get used to it, it takes a lot longer. I've seen some players need a full month to fully understand, and get good at Strafe Jumping.

I feel crippled because I can't do what I want to... it's not lack of skill, it's the movement system, because it's not made for what I want :P (yes I'm no pro at quake movement, but I can see even the pros can't do the things I want to do... which is instant change of direction and go max speed instantly)

btw.... ut movement is just as hard/easy to get a feel for as quake movement.... it'll take a few days and you got the basics laid down, you know what you can do but it just fucks up a bit because you don't have that rutine in it. Trust me, I can easily spot when a quaker plays ut... just as you can spot when an ut player plays quake.

The two games have radically different movement systems with weaknesses and strenght in each their own areas... neither of them are "perfect" because there's no such thing as a perfect movement system... atleast not from an objective point of view. That being said, it comes down to what type of movement you prefer.

For you quake is perfect probably as it does what you want, for me ut is perfect because it does what I seek in movement..

Let's not fight about it, rather stick together as DM players, against other evil games such as WoW :P

well, the stuff about movement is just wrong.. i play UT since 2k3 and also sometimes quake3 for fun (vq3/cpma) with friends and in ut you just have a fixed distance you can dodge/run but not in q3..the strafe/circle jumping is a lot harder to master - take the jump most of the quakers refer to as a basic one you should know if you are thinking about playing more seriously - bridge2rail on dm6..its really difficult to get the mouse movement/timing right..
all u need in ut is to dodge (off the wall/something) under the right angle and time..no mouse shaking will help you in getting any more distance..for me it is definitely easier to master movement in ut then in q3 ;p

Nobody doubts that you can master the base movement in UT easier than in Q3. The point, however, is that UT isn't a game about transport, it's a game about combat. It's the combat that's difficult. Not the movement.

"Climbing the ranks" = meant just that competition in UT is difficult, even though the base rules in the game seem simpler. In other words, it's not the game that sets the difficulty, but your opposition.

Not only translocator ;) Walldodging, jump boots and double jump are all "special movement" in UT. But yes, translocator is pretty fancy ^^

Not to that extent. Take nuke matches for an example, every team is playing the same CT setup with the occasional push up ramp or hut. The rest is camp and more camp. Obviously in Q3 you have points on maps where a lot of frags occur, but there's still a lot more variety.

if you are not really into the game its not as intense as if you are into it (understand every situation, played it yourself etc)

the same at quake. if you dont understand the map or the armor system, you dont see how intense it is.

Heh, I've been really good at CS and never really good at Q3 (except DF, trickjumping owns) and I watched Q3 over CS last CPL. Even though DM6 is boooooooring, worse than CS. Any 1vs1 game > CS when it comes to spectating, BUT the overtimes in CS are probably the best in any game, they can be sooo tense

trust me, trying to list all the steps intimidates noobs, you need to make this as easy for people to install on a whim, and at the same time you're also missing a number of things, such as the threewave and rocket arena mods (since there are still a number of servers out there that run the mod and not CPMA) and their associated maps. you probably also want to link to a choice of server browsers since the one that's built in to quake 3 kind of blows and i dont even think you can add a better one without breaking compatability with baseq3 (or just pick one and tell them to install it)

also it has to be legal, as anyone who was involved in the eQuake drama can tell you

I think you're missing the point. Here's how i imagine nquake3 installer would work:

1. Ask user for CD key.
2. Ask user for location of pak0.pak.
3. The installer then downloads CQ3 and all of the patch pk3's, then copies the pak0.pak from quake 3 and creates a q3key file from the CD key
4. The installer then grabs the latest CPMA and installs it
5. The installer then grabs Threewave CTF, installs the mod, and puts maps in baseq3
6. The installer then grabs Rocket Arena 3, installs the mod, and put maps in baseq3
7. The installer then grabs the nquake3 map pack, which would have the most popular usermade maps like hub3areoq3, ztn3tourney1, b0_beta6, etc. and installs them to baseq3.
8. Done!

You say it's too much work? I say that nquake functions almost exactly the same way and has been around for ages. All we need is someone willing to maintain the installer, and suddenly Quake 3 is accessable to all.

I was also like that, but I adapted, and not playing under CPMA because of that little difference in physics, is just retarded. While I'll like to have that possible solution of "emulated 125 fps physics", I just can't go back to crappy netcode, forced huds, etc. Just adapt, is not that hard after a week or so.

CPL used CPMA, people on the GTV enjoyed the games (btw, switching between povs with a single click thanks to MVD) and no one whined. Last ASUS cup, same. "the players". There are more players than those you have mentioned. This is an open tournament and everyone must be able to make proper online training under the best conditions possible, and CPMA netcode allows that. About the MVD thing, you don't use it, ok, other people do. If you use OSP you are not allowing people to use the MVD feature, (sometimes even forced to see a certain pov because of GTV problems, since OSP needs one for every single player, waste of resources btw), if you use CPMA and you don't want to switch between povs just don't click and get rid of the window.

i must admit you're both right
the LG somehow IS stronger (can't really tell why either -- firerate seems higher to me)
if it was only about lan ok take osp when all the pros seem to like it better -- but since most people will play online first -- and most of them don't have a that-good connection -- it'd just not be as much fun / would be frustrating at best with osp instead of cpma.
a pretty-even match between 2 players from sweden and spain for example would be unthinkable...

personally i never really liked osp but the frags in movies etc somehow look "better" and more spectacular in osp than in cpma.

however just my 2cents.

Yes, let's do that. Why? Because new games have a tendency to SUCK major balls. Who wants to play UT3 just because it's new? I think gaming is way past that stage. E-Sports needs consistency in games, not jumping around.

If you have a good single player game it's no problem to make a new one, you just make a new story and people will be happy, but when you have an MP game there's no justifiable reason to make a sequel. Unless you can improve upon the gameplay (which hasn't really happened ever except BF1942->BF2) then don't do a new damn game. Game devs don't understand MP.

Maybe Q3 is dead but then 1on1 is dead too. If you want it to grow then do something. Maybe be nice to people, write a newb guide or whatever. Everyone is so fucking hostile here

ut3 can be as big, as it wants to.In a brandnew game, there is still so much space left to a state, where you aren t allowed to make any mistakes in the game. It is playing ten or fiveteen minutes on this high level, that creats the intense and exciting atmosphere, the viewer wants to see. Nobody wants to watch some nubs playing each other on a low level, which will be wey inferior compared to the average level in one or two years in UT3.
Quake is still the game. I want to see some masterminds reaching the top of their game.
Also i`d prefer OSP because it always run smooth, and it has the more promising playerbase.

W�W is also nice, but i think there is still too much randomness in it, because it is a bit too fast/ there are too much random movements.

no you are right i meant exactly that. in terms of people playing competitively and not randoms doing pickups these are the ones that are left.

ospctf'ers are active in both clanbase and netleet not only their pickup chans (#spontanctf). being active to me always means competitive organized play everything else is no different from a bunch of people playing halo x on console y. one could always argue that ra3 is still alive and kicking but that would be stupid too.

i hate to see all the idiocy in this thread about osp being 'dead'... whatever that even means. the mod surely does what it's supposed to do and people are using it.

cpma is technically a lot better but it does not have the community backing right now that osp has.

You should really pick ioq3 with cpma -- it runs even better than the original quake3 and (if 'id' would give out the pak0.pk3) it would be completely free for everyone since most europeans have seen what happened last year -- many people wanted to start playing q3 but weren't able to buy it anywhere at all which sucked bigtime.
In addition punkbuster is the most useless and bugged anti-cheat-tool there is :(

just my 2cents but you should honestly think about it -- it would REALLY help making the community bigger again.

i would have agreed with you six months ago.

however a few months ago id and valve teamed up to (in my mind) single-handedly save classic quake by putting the entire id back catalog on steam

with quake 3 on steam, there's really no excuse to not have your own personal copy. even if you hate steam all you gotta do is copy the quake 3 arena directory out of the steam directory and then install the latest patch on top of it, this will change the 'steamified' version of quake 3 into 'real' quake 3, and you can uninstall steam forever (or at least until you have to reinstall).

that is of course if you actually want to use the id software executable for punkbuster compatability, if your server admin has any sense he has punkbuster disabled and you can use ioquake3 or cq3

Atleast we got a Quake game. But ATM Q3 1v1 and TDM scene seems to be very small. Im sure that many of the old good players will attend the qualifiers now that ESWC has picked Q3 again.

If you would pick a Quake game by current activity and players you should have picked Q2 followed by QW then Q4 and last Q3 :)

To the quake4 players saying pick osp I think you lot are living in 2006. Try the latest cnq3 exe and cpma betas (super-leightweight client with PB completely stripped out and some really nice tweaks such as vastly improved simple items)

Q3 client tech has developed pretty fast in the last few months and by eswc things should be even better.

But I would like to add, to those who are saying 'new maps' - I would vote to Keep DM6, ztn etc because you want to show of Q3 at its best, its not like the game is in the middle of its life which is when you want to start using events to promote new maps, this will probably be the last time you see Q3, dont u want it to look its best?

Id much rather see dm6 / ztn over any quake 4 game/demo anyday of the week. and second of all there's a reason why these maps are soo overplayed..and that is because they stick out above the other maps by miles. so taking in 'new' shite maps doesnt help q3 at all it just ruins it tbh. bring back q3, osp or vq3, with q3t2, ztn , dm6, pt4, aero
those are the best 1v1 maps and a true test of skill between 2 players dont matter if ur a railer or shafter...

part of the reason i wish tournaments would use CPM gameplay is because even though those maps might be good for VQ3 play, cpm maps are generally smaller, faster paced and thus more exciting to watch when you combine it with the more acrobatic physics

ztn and q3dm6 are probably the worst offenders when it comes to being boring to watch (in duel at least, q3dm6 is the most exciting teamplay map by a long shot), while aero and tourney4 are much more exciting, but none of them compare to watching the insanity of a cpm duel on any of the big maps.

vq3 means the standard quake3 settings, for weapons and movement. CPMA by default uses cpm (aka promode) settings, to get normal settings in CPMA u need to change the gameplay to "vq3" (/callvote gameplay vq3).

This is a great news . this is the right decicion for deathmatch gaming and gaming in general.

the last years i have put much effort into comparing all different deathmatch games - all aspects: engines, gfx, sound, hardware capabilities, gameplay, players, history of the games, tournament history, knownability to nothardcore people, speccing ...

to all unsatisfied people i can say: the faster quake3 is established in public the faster you can get the chance to have big tournaments for your fps. (not one time adtournaments, or exceptions but decadethinking)

and i rate several dm games as good titles: including nearly all famous or mentioned series in this thread. and i have bought several hardwareupgrades although i never had much money. to try and compare all new titles again. sometimes even hyped new dmgames before i had extensively tested them, because i felt the developers should know now what they have to do. now i see clearer: its not that easy to make very good series better.
even hard to hold the same quality !

and to say it another time: idsoftware has to make sure that quakezero
is at least on the same level as quake3+mods now.
like with doom3, ut3 or quake4 it would be a bad choice to support quakezero if its not the same or better qualitylevel compared to quake3. i know idsoft sees it the same way reading through all available statements about q0.
so its more a question if it will come how they want it.
many other developers arent even at that point imo, maybe some unpaid devs,players and supporters on this site and amoung the hardcore fps comunity.

next topic - some talk about new maps. imo there is a reason why most hardcoreplayers still play the same maps in all games.
they are fun and well designed.

to think about adding new maps at this point when there is only one big game out there which is starcraft, is very very strange.

then we can think about integrating new maps.
an exception would be if there is a new WAYOUTSTANDING map.
i dont see this map around at this point.
maybe a very good and workable remake of qw,q2 or q4 maps ?
hmm discussable, not easy to achieve.
(personaly i like remakes of maps, but i know many quakers are playing remakes with a microscope on their eyes. and they often are knowledgeable and good players.

with maps its the same like with q3 -> q3 is highest quality, so should be the maps. adding a half solution will only pullute q3 !

yeah, just google 'strafe jumping tutorial'. From there, you'll get a feel of what's what. (make sure to get at least one or two trick jump maps from somewhere, I'll help you find a map if you tell me which game you're playing)
There are already a few tutorials that will help, and for inspiration as you go I'd suggest watching a few videos to see just how far down the rabbit-hole goes.

Even if I'm pretty happy with the choice of Q3, you gotta admit, UT3 has actually a pretty big community behind the game and would fit well the in game list, both do.
There is nothing to debate about the qualities/defaut on anygame, that is just about tastes, that has always been just about tastes. You are all being so subjective.

I hope they will reconsider adding UT3 to the list while keeping Q3.

all the ut players are still playing UT2k4 apparently from what i have read. also server stats seem to indicate this and though UT2K4 has a big player base you have to remember that a good portion if not the majority of players are playing onslaught and this will probably be the case with ut3 when more people have upgraded their comps. so i think you over estimate the UT3 community atm. maybe now linux server is out things will pick up.

hey how come not one of the 383 posts have commented on the fact that DotA has been accepted too?

the game that doesnt even have a company behind it, just a bunch of mod testers and developers who volunteer their own time to develop the fastest growing game in the past 2 years

the game that was initially just a random custom map made by someone with alot of spare time on their hands, now so many pro euro teams have signed on a dota team (SK, mouz, virtus pro, meetyourmakers, srs, the list goes on )

now im not bagging this game because i play it competitively and having come from playing ut2004 hardout it seems i made the right choice in changing over to WC3 / DotA :)

btw all u quake players should just start playing dota now because soon its gonna take over the world

personally i think dota is warcraft 3 for people who cant do more then 1 thing at once. basically it strips the game of all macro skill and defines the micro down to what you can do with 1 unit. maybe its a bit unfair to compare it to wc3 at all. gotta to give credit where credit is due though it is very popular. i played it a bit and never really got into it. dont think i could imagine enjoying watching it, especially not over normal wc3.

i think the reason not many people have commented on it is because for a start q3 in eswc was a suprise to most people and this being a site with alot of q3 players, it got lost under the joy :)

When was the last big tournament for Q2 , question for Careem. I dont see the Q2 on ESWC because its not the same feeling like in q3 and the q3 game is way more popular and exciting to play. Look ! Event's org's not understand what mod best, becaurse they lamers, arqon is lamer, he is a programmer, not player.
All knows that 125 fps + long jumps a bug, but players use 125 fps and it was ok. Why arqon fix that? And waht he give players instead? A fucking hud?!

Sure UT and Quake have some differences, but at the end of the day spawn frags still buffer your lead, controlling the armors is still key, and air-rox still put a smile on my face :)

How much do you Q3 guys actually know about UT series, from what people have said on ESReality? The guys who have never played it and this is going to the UT players that have never tried Quake series, you have no right to flame the gameplay of UT or Quake since the fact you haven't even tried it yourself. Now onto the real stuff, I've been playing Quake 3 abit now VQ3 and CPMA and I still think it doesn't beat UT2k4 not talking about UT3 since that mod isn't even ready yet. If ESWC is going to use CPMA, then "lol" because you can't use no brain since the fact there's a frag every 4 seconds, which sucks. Whereas UT2k4 you actually have time to time weapons, the game isn't just 1,2 weapons based all the weapons are balanced. Alot more open, able to think about a tactical decision before making it. UT2K4 is great to watch, personally I love low scored games example: lauke vs Falcon on Ironic 0-0 went into overtime ESWC 05 that was a masterpiece to watch since the players made very very few mistakes. Its a shame really, Nicky has done a great job with this website and she hardly gets any praise only whiner's and overuse of language mostly from the Q3 guys, try acting mature and maybe you won't get treated like idiots from the UT guys. They give a valid opinion and all you do is give them shit. When you make a comment "mostly" they'll reply with a mature comment not one filled with bs like "die", "lol UT3", "lol idiot" etc... Shame Nicky isn't has strict as we are at UnrealNorth cause if she was there would be alot of bans on this website. So try growing up or atleast think twice before you post a comment - yes im waiting for me to get flamed aswell, but I know thats going to happen. Thats my 2 cents.
