No. I know it sucks because I've played at a few times. IT SUCKS! Its basically UT2004 without dodge+jump.

All they have done for the past 4 years is new maps and new textures. Plus new engine of course. I you were thinking that Quake 4's MP was exactly the same as Quake 3's you should try UT3... NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE, except for the missing dodge+jump thing.

;( Well, it was really fun in the beginning.. and it's fun to use, definitely. But if you played a lot of UT, you see it just breaks up the whole "martial arts"-rhythm from the combat there. Also, the movement+gravity had to be sped down, and maps overscaled, to support dodgejumping, which was a main complaint by many..

Kinda sad that you'll miss it, but if it helps, UT3 should have more intense combat because of smaller maps and faster movement.. If they get it right that is ;(

Yeh, but haven't they done a bunch of other stuff to the game as well, like speeding up basic running speed, changed, and upped weapon damage, etc.

On paper it sounds like a real fun game to me.

Its a demo because it is considerably reduced in in the number of maps/modes etc, and it is beta because its purpose is to TEST and evaluate on different hardware configurations etc. It is not a tested demo that is ready to be judged and reviewed, no doubt there will be a 'demo, fulls stop' eventually.

The 'beta demo' title sums up very clearly what that release is, both the words are very relevant.

on open beta represents an unfinished "full" version of the game. like he mentions above, a demo has far less features.

on the other hand, a demo is supposed to be a finished demo that you can take as an indication of the full game quality. On the other hand, a "bemo" is a potentially bugged demo, allowing for an earlier release.

It's an early demo.

I typed two separate posts each pointing out that what you are describing is the exact definition of an open beta, then I noticed that I don't give a fuck.

I then read:

UT3 is an open beta and will be made widely available for download, Fileplanet don't have an exclusive on this.

And realised the whole thing is just some nub sticking 'demo' in the title to make the whole thing look different. It's not JUST a beta, it's a BETA DEMO!

The 'open' in open beta means that its open to the public, wheras a closed beta is only open to selected people.

Regardless, a beta usually refers to an untested full game. Demo states that it is reduced in content/features.

Epic even admitted this failure when starting UT3 development, and said they'd be starting completely from scratch, making a gameplay-based game like the original UT. But if that philosophy is still there at developer crunch time, remains to be seen.. in "two weeks" time.. -_o
