I just started regularly logging back into e-sports sites after what feels like almost a year of inactivity and lurking, as the priority of gaming in my life as steadily decreased. As I now attempt at least to become an avid follower, one of the first things I did was download a bunch of movies from the past few months. I was disappointed (in an e-way) that a lot of songs were being used in movies that were around as far as 2, 3, or 4 years ago, iirc. It caught my attention, and slightly distracted me.

Maybe at one point those songs were fresh. And good. Probably still are good. But the fact is, if you're like me (which I know many of you are), and you're constantly watching gaming movies cross-game, some of these tracks can get very tiring, hearing them over and over again. For example, I'm surprised people are seriously still using Lincoln Park. What the hell???

My advice? Get original. I listen to a lot of independent/underground music, but I do have a lot of mainstream/popular/major label stuff as well. If I were to make a movie, I could easily pull a soundtrack from the popular stuff, but I *know* at least a few songs would be overkill by the time I put the movie out.

Go into your more obscure music collection if you have one. Take risks. Create an original soundtrack with songs you're confident haven't been used in movies before. Hell, go one further and pick songs which you think few people have even heard before, like that local rock band or independent artist.

When stuff is fresh - be it editing effects, frags, and even the music, people respond with pleasure. So it follows that such an attitude concerning soundtracks will definitely help how your movie is received.

In closing, I thought I'd start a list, which I'll update (with you guys' comments) for unofficially banned songs - that is - tracks which are played far too often, which movie makers universally should avoid.

Please respond with additions. Thanks!

(I'll start with the easy ones)

1. **ALL** Linkin Park songs
2. **ALL** songs from Prodigy's 'Fat of the Land'
3. Danny Elfman Spiderman Song
4. Evanescence
5. Matrix soundtrack
