No Av3k at ESWC Finals (354 comments)
Posted by Dird @ 17:04 CDT, 21 August 2008 - iMsg
Multi-gaming clan Serious Gaming have announced that one of their players and the defending ESWC champion Poland Av3k will not be attending the Grand Finals in United States of America San Jose due to visa problems.

Here is an exert from their news post:
Today became clear defending world champion Poland Maciej 'Av3k' Krzykowski will not be able to attend ESWC 2008. After several attempts to get a visa to the United States and be able to participate in ESWC 2008, his final desperate try failed today.

The full news post can be read on their website.

Netherlands basZ, Manager at Serious Gaming had this to say:
Its difficult for me to judge the situation from here. Av3k had to renew his visa, and thought it would not cause any problems. Unfortunately things went different then hoped and expected. This is a blow for the ESWC tournament, it loses a great competitor full of ambition to defend his title.

SK Gaming has added its share of pre-ESWC hype with a 15-minute video interview with United States of America John "ZeRo4" Hill, one of the most accomplished players in the history of Quake 3.

The interview was conducted at the ESWC Masters of Paris, ZeRo4's first event after a four-year sabbatical from competitive gaming. During the conversation the SK player shares his views on the current state of Quake 3, how it changed and evolved and on how he finds himself in it.

The video with the most fascinating of individuals is definitely a must-see for every Quake fan. View it below:

Joe “nineX” Szymkowicz had a chance to sit down with United States of America Shane “rapha” Hendrixson, of SK-Gaming, after his trip to the ESWC Masters Quake 3 competition. Exhausted from the combination of jet-lag and an intense field of competition, Rapha talked about his future in gaming and some topics swirling around the deathmatch community.

Head on over to GGL-Wire for the complete interview and keep an eye out for more interviews from the ESWC players.

Quake 3 Map Statistics: October 2008 (38 comments)
Posted by cYmoZz @ 13:24 CDT, 30 July 2008 - iMsg
I made a little statistic how well the top players did on the different maps. I considered every player who attended at least two of the big Q3 events in 2008: eswc ESWC Masters Paris, GameGune, eswc ESWC Finals or eswc ESWC Masters Athen.

Top 5 on each map (min. 4 games on the specific map):

"player name" "number of wins" / "number of matches"

ZTN is the only map which is not removed on a regular basis by all listed players.
Only a few players seem to feel comfortable on all maps.

There might be some errors, if you find one, please post it.
